Somehow, standing in line for this just doesn’t do it for me.

So the world ends tomorrow, May 21st, so some people say. What will you do?
Will our east Asia and European readers please let us know how it’s going as the time marches across the face of the earth. Open thread –

Global warming is good for the environment. The melting of glaciers stimulates growth of “teeming communities of everything from tiny shrimp-like krill to fish, birds and sometimes mammals.” .. including organisms that sequester C02.

Religion is a disease
Point on. A lowly citizen of immense thought, 1790, proclaimed the same except for, Government is a disease if allowed to be larger than a person. Our government is a religion.
Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we there yet? Are we ther…
No person is perfect, so no one will vanish. That is how we will know it has actually happened.
I was fairly certain the world was going to end around 1980, when we ran out of oil. When Mount St. Helens blew in 1979 I saw it as the start.
This enabled me to get through the 1970’s without needing to take college courses, or save money, or even work a real job much. Great fun, but I suffered a bit of a hang-over in the 1980’s, I must admit.
Hey Jack, nice CD. Thanks for the headsup. Totally agree with your description.
I have often wondered what exactly is meant with “the end of the world”. Does it just mean the end of the human race, which would be unfortunate for billions of farm animals, or the end of the planet with everything, including rats, cats, dogs and monkeys, on it? Can someone explain why PETA would think this a good thing?
“you’re no good, no good, no good, baby you’re no good”
Anybody see Mr. Camping this morning?
How about Gore, Hansen, Mann, Jones, etc?
Speaking to PETA:
http://www.daytondailynews.com/news/dayton-news/peta-compares-eating-animals-to-baby-killed-in-microwave-1163457.html
What do you think I think of PETA after reading that? It rhymes with ‘duck shoe’.
Harold Camping is one in a string of crackpots predicting the end of the world. They come and go, but the world never does.
Well it is 8AM in California and I’m awake and still kicking. Scanning the skies I see nothing.
And PETA and Camping are still idiots.
Well here I am in Melbourne down under, after midnight, 12.55 to be exact on the dawning of a new day, 22nd May 2011. No Horsemen of the Apocolypse, not even one little Millenium Bug…Phewww… Earth survives another tipping point…Though it was a bit windy a while back…
I’m opening my pool, cutting my foot high grass, introducing 6 new chickens to the old flock of 5. My wife is burning old papers and cardboard in the chimnea. Later I’m taking the 1930 Model A pickup for a ride to the farmers market to buy some aged steaks. We are also donating my wifes old car to the fire dept. so they can practice search and rescue with it. This evening (if the world is still here) we are celebrating my inlaw’s 50th anniversary. Pretty full day!!!!
Well its the 21st, I hope it gets warmer…..
As I understand it, Camping was saying this evening, presumably Pacific time.
And remember, the rapture is the catching away of the faithful. Those who remain continue, but life gets harder and harder for the tribulation. I suppose few recall “A Thief in the Night, 1972.”
Well given that the Y2K Bug was going to be the worst thing ever and the News Media would NEVER LIE to us or puff the facts, we are all dead anyway. Besides the Hole in the Ozone layer and KILLER BEES got us long ago. The reason we are having this Global Warming is because we entered the next ice age back in the 1960s.
One question: Is there intelligent life on Earth???

What is the point of sticking this story in this blog?
———————–
Idiotic apocalyptic predictions that never come to pass. Totally on-topic Roy.
Are you all still out there? It’s 9:00 am on the west coast and I can feel the end of the world parties spawning around me. Buckets of ice and beer, tri tip and BBQ chicken! Maybe I’ll hook up with one of those parties and at 11:30pm ( cause your damn right God’s an Anerican) I’ll touch my wife’s cheek gently, look deep into her eyes, and say, “you know we only have half an hour, what shall we do?”
Investing for my retirement.
What else?
Where is Al Gore when you need him?

Slightly off-thread
Re the Horsemen of the Apocalypse.
The four Horsemen of the Apocalypse went for a drink in a pub in Liverpool.
An hour later, a solemn vow not to drink in Liverpool, not to even visit Liverpool, was sworn by the four Pedestrians of the Apocalypse.

It’s for the openminded.
Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great,
And would suffice.

CG – that’s just toooooooo damn funny!!!! I’ll use it – Thanks for the belly laugh! I nearly squirted coffee out my nose on that one!
It’s ‘C and C’ here (coffee and cartoons) for breakfast, here in the Peoples Republic of Washington State. Two eagles in the big fir tree out front, eyeing the week old goslings with their goose and gander escorts, on this little puddle of a lake.
Looks like ‘God’s in His heaven and all’s right with the world!’
Jeb Bush will steal the 2012 election, and judgement day will thenthen accelerate after billionaire financing.
I’ve telepathically contacted the Mothership, boarding starts at 16:00 at any bus stop near your residence…anyone want to go for a little ride?
