The force of growing popularity of the Aegis’ “Our Climate” iPhone app has caused some climate alarmists to circle the wagons and regroup. For example, Joe Romm at Climate Progress is calling for
“… suggestions for improving the one liners.”
…related to John Cook’s alarmist iPhone app.
I think it is telling that they are reacting so visibly and so quickly. They probably were not prepared for such popularity (of the Our Climate App) after the staged smackdown in the Guardian backfired.
See: Climate change denial? There’s an app for that.
Meanwhile the “Our Climate” app continues its surge of downloads and is featured in the Top 40 “New and Notable” Apps on the iTunes frontpage, plus the top 5 category position in many countries:
There are more than 230,000 Apps in the App store – Only 40 Apps are featured in this front page category at any time, so this is a singular achievement and opportunity for the truly skeptical side of the story to be heard.
“Our Climate” is now the Number 1 Weather App in Five iTunes App Stores:
1. Malaysia
1. Uruguay
1. India
1. Hong Kong
1. Brazil
Also number 2 in:
2. Canada
2. Turkey
2. Singapore
Number 3 in:
3. UK
3. Panama
3. Pakistan
And fourth in:
4. USA
Get the app for yourself: http://itunes.apple.com/app/our-climate/id371849150?mt=8
BTW Yes, it DOES work on the iPad !

And, if your are in an NGO or work the IPCC, be sure to get this version (thanks to reader “boudu”):

Hi John,
It was me who insulted you. Please accept my humble apologies. As you know in this heated debate [pun intended] outrageous claims are made [no you personally] and we sceptics don’t have the MSM on our side or give us a fair hearing. This led to my uncalled for outburst. Sorry again. :o(

Lubos,
The Czech Republic result must be due to your excellent promotional skills. 🙂
Much appreciated…
PS: Based on a bit feedback I am receiving from some of you, if any of you have reviewed V1.0.0 of the App, and haven’t upgraded yet, you won’t be able to add a review for V1.0.1. You need to update first to V1.0.1 and update your review.
I think these reviews do matter when customers are right at the point of deciding whether to try the App or not. So the more positive reviews we can muster on Page 1 of the App’s iTunes page, the better.
119 refutations? 119!
This seems to inadvertantly capture the inherent bias and blinkered thinking of those moving in AGW circles, as there’s no way that of 119 ‘denialist’ debating points, every single one can be dismissed with a pithy one-liner.
Pretty much every debating subject has strong and weak points to it, that’s normal.
(We could all make strong arguments both for and against invading Iraq and Afghanistan for example)
Yet these guys pretend they – and only they – have the correct answer to every single point made, every objection raised, every tricky question asked or every challenging scientific paper, about AGW.
Plainly, that’s quite daft.
My favorite comment under the climate catechism climate progress provided was “so and so needs a rebuttal, I wish I were qualified to provide it.” Of course, the “denier” comment in question had been deleted.

Trading quips with humourless warmists is like kicking puppies—so easy to do that it’s immoral.
Shame on you, Sean. Kicking puppies is wrong. Warmists, on the other hand, …

Just bought the app, and gave it 5 stars.
That Guardian article is especially bad. Harping on about cherry-picking and arguments that contradict each other. But they also say:
” … a reduction in sea ice leading to increased heating because the darker sea absorbs more heat than lighter ice …”
A darker surface would also be a more effective radiator. At high latitude where solar input is at shallow angle, doesn’t reduced sea ice also mean amplified cooling?
Why can the Guardian can cite this contradiction “as if it’s never occurred to climate scientists”?
Not sure what app my Samsung Starburst runs, but I would love to have this app for it.
The Guardian article was spiteful and inept propaganda, which came very close in style and content to being religious dogma – references to ‘deniers’ was particularly nasty. Anyone who knows anything about the methods of swaying public opinion knows that damning the opposition brand almost always backfires, so the article was a really silly tactic in itself.
And what happened to the Guardian’s pledge to play nice?
After reading the comments on this thread by Anthony, John Cook and others, John seems like a reasonable and likeable bloke but his good qualities got lost completely by the Guardian.
When I was learning to read and write, my dad warned me from time to time that reading and writing are not a product of advanced intelligence but fairly normal human activities for our current stage in the evolution of Man, and that because something was printed in a newspaper or on a page in a book did not make it true, but that someone had invested much of themsleves and their personal treasure in the ideas that they had carefully set out on those pages and had a strong vested interest in others becoming followers and believers. I was trained at an early age to question everything I read and with a dictionary at hand.
As to IPhones, etc, the boy in me wants toys, including an IPhone and an IPad, many of the apps that I have read about and all sorts of other stuff, but the rational part of me says that my PC is more than adequate, as is my cellular phone, unless I win the lottery and can indulge myself.
The more shrill and intolerant the warmists become, the less credible their position appears to anyone looking for some truth in Climate Science.
I did try to gently point this out to them – but of course I was censored.
Here at WUWT Science is discussed, debate is encouraged, mistakes owned up to, and the “other side” are allowed to participate – so well done WUWT, and thanks for all the hard work.

A GOLDMINE OF INFORMATION,
Okay, Anthony, you sucked me in with this post. (I figured I could spare the price of the app.) Will browse through it later. Should be fun showing the kids more information about what we call around here “the great global warming hoax.”
