Climategate: Statement from Norfolk Police

Jan 8, 2010

This morning I contacted Norfolk Constabulary with a view to finding out if they had yet ascertained whether the breach at the Climatic Research Unit was a leak or a hack. I have just received a response which is frankly amazing:

Norfolk Constabulary continues its investigations into criminal offences in relation to a data breach at the University of East Anglia.  During the enquiry officers have been working in liaison with the Office of the Information Commissioner and with officers from the National Domestic Extremism Team. The UEA continues to co-operate with the enquiry however major investigations of this nature are of necessity very detailed and as a consequence can take time to reach a conclusion. It would be inappropriate to comment further at this stage.

The National Domestic Extremism Team? Words fail me.

Get a life. A bureaucrat from a rural police force has fobbed off a member of the public with waffle and jargon. What’s new?
There’s an air of hysteria and panic round here that is making a laughing stock of the anti-AGW case and undermining the credibility of much excellent work. IMHO, it would be better all round if folk didn’t do that.

MikeE (13:53:26) : Quite. Just to re-state it: those who are creating a climate of fear are the Warmist alarmists.
“To capture the public imagination,
we have to offer up some scary scenarios,
make simplified dramatic statements
and little mention of any doubts one might have.
Each of us has to decide the right balance
between being effective,
and being honest.”

I’ve also been wondering if perhaps it was Briffa who blew the whistle. He certainly has reason to resent the bullying from his colleagues to support Mann’s hockey stick. I can easily see him wanting to regain his own self-respect. After reading the e-mails I get a sense that he’s a decent person who got pushed into a corner. I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that he actually loathes the self-promoting Mann.

Probably of a similar ilk to the knuckle dragging neanderthals that assaulted Damien Greens rights .
Britains a disaster zone for freedom nowadays.
Free to a good home, will no one take on a well housetrained “extremist” denier like me?

Can I repeat what DC said earlier? The Information Commissioner being involved is the important part of this message, as it indicates they might be taking a good look at the FOI request avoidance – in other words they seem to be investigating CRU itself.

Two can play this game. Now all you have to do is report the criminal activities of the climate scientists. Note that no one is to delete email LOL.

Report domestic extremist incidents
It is important that organisations and their employees report all incidents of domestic extremist activity, whatever the level of severity.
If domestic extremists contact you or your organisation you should report it to the appropriate authority. This may be the security manager or adviser at your place of work or your local police force.
■Record the time and date
■Give a summary of what happened
■Note any significant details. For example, the colour, make and registration number of a car.
■If possible, film or photograph the incident – using mobile phones, digital cameras, digital cam-corders or CCTV.
■Keep any correspondence, packages and parcels. Don’t throw away anything or delete e-mail. Handle letters, envelopes and packaging as little as possible.
You may also need to report any domestic extremist incident that occurs when you are not at work to the appropriate person in your organisation. Keep the contact details for that person with you at all times.
If it is an emergency, for example if you have received a suspicious package, you should phone ‘999’ and ask for the police.

What is an Information Commissar–I mean Commissioner? Is that sort of like the Minister of Propaganda? How interesting that the UK even has one.

Surely you mean “Ministry of Truth”:

You might consider filing a FOI request with the Norfolk Constabulary. They must respond within 20 days even when the request pertains to an ongoing criminal investigation. The important thing is to phrase the request in such a way that it demonstrates unambiguously that a “strong public interest” is at stake. If you fail to demonstrate a strong public interest then the police will almost certainly claim a “Section 30” or “Section 31” exemption under the Freedom of Information Act.

Sorry but isn’t it investigated by the anti-terrorist groups simply because Jones, Mann, Schmidt, and their comrades will ultimately be sent to Guantanamo because they organized terror against the Western economies? Or do I misunderstand it?
