And yet…it was claimed to be a “success”. Note to organizers: the media is laughing at you.
Snowstorm squelches climate change protest
By Judy Fahys, The Salt Lake Tribune Updated: 12/30/2009 06:36:58 PM MST

A downtown [Salt Lake City] protest of the climate change talks in Copenhagen became a victim of Wednesday’s snowstorm.
“Not many people showed up because of the blizzard conditions,” said organizer Clea Major, an international studies student at the University of Utah.
It didn’t take long for the six friends to pack up a bullhorn and posters they’d planned to use for their “scream-in,” an outlet for their frustration about the failure of the Copenhagen climate talks earlier this month to curb the pollution blamed for climate change.
Still, they chatted with a few passers-by during the commuter-hour protest near the Gateway, and explained that, blizzard aside, climate change is expected to bring chaos to the global climate, said Major.
She called Wednesday evening’s effort a success and possibly the first in a series. As for the snow, it’s not entirely new; a protest she attended last year in Washington, D.C., suffered a similar fate.
“There is always the irony element,” Major said.

Here’s the original announcement from KCPW in Salt Lake:
Protesters Scream for Climate Change
12.30.2009 by Elizabeth Ziegler
(KCPW News) Climate change activists will stage a “scream-in” today at the Gateway Mall in downtown Salt Lake City to vent their frustrations about the Copenhagen Accord adopted by global leaders two weeks ago. University of Utah student Cléa Major says the demonstration is intended to call attention to the fact that the accord doesn’t require countries to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
“Basically we want your average shopper to go home tonight after work and say, ‘Man, you know, I was returning my Christmas gift and there were these people screaming on the sidewalk, you know, what’s that all about?’” Major says. “We wanted to make an impression on people and we wanted to maybe put it in a location where it wasn’t necessarily expected to get people out of the post-Christmas haze to just sort of listen.”
Major sees the Copenhagen Accord as a failure, akin to the cap and trade legislation, The American Clean Energy and Security Act, that activists had hoped would set the tone in Copenhagen. The bill has stalled in the Senate after garnering a narrow margin of support in the House of Representatives this summer. All three of Utah’s Congressmen voted against it.
Major says the scream-in will be cathartic for those participating, who see the Copenhagen Accord as a missed opportunity to reverse climate change.
“We just all felt so helpless, we felt betrayed by this,” Major says. “We felt helpless and we felt furious because it was like we had just been looking to this to be the big thing that could turn it around or at least be a major jumping off point. And it just kind of stalled and failed and now there’s kind of this feeling of we don’t really know where to go next.”
The scream-in takes place at 5:30 p.m. on the northwest corner of 400 West and 200 South at the Gateway Mall.
What constitutes a “success” to Ms. Majors must have as wide an error bar as the climate modelers for whom all weather, warm or cool, seems to be “consistent with the models”.
Al (i) agtor in the surroundings there ?
“Note to organizers: the media is laughing at you.”
Well, if the media you’re talking about is the Limbaugh, Hannity, et al., crowd, then I’d agree. Otherwise, not so much.
“Major says the scream-in will be cathartic for those participating…”
So the scream-in is for the protestors, not the the benefit of any possible converts? Good luck getting THAT to go viral.
Clea Major, International Studies student. Lots of math and science there. Know why Clea Major is in International Studies? I’ll put it in terms he/she can understand. Cause math is like hard and stuff, and I’m like, not good at that, cause I’m like stupid and stuff just like everyone else studying like countries and stuff.
Man – idiots are truly a force of nature; of course, ‘international studies’ is the modern-day version of basket weaving.
Scream your heads off at the FRAUD you and your lunatic friends have fallen for.
Scream at the French over this — http://wattsupwiththat.com/2009/12/29/french-revolution-carbon-tax-ruled-unconstitutional-just-two-days-before-taking-effect/
Scream at Science Daily for this – No Rise of Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide Fraction in Past 160 Years, New Research Finds – http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2009/12/091230184221.htm
Scream at this — In his research, Lu discovers that while there was global warming from 1950 to 2000, there has been global cooling since 2002. The cooling trend will continue for the next 50 years, according to his new research observations. http://blogs.news.com.au/heraldsun/andrewbolt/index.php/heraldsun/comments/50_years_of_cooling_predicted#65269
I could list page after page at things you should scream about, but please do scream LOUDLY at the total fraud you clowns have been sucked into.
Looks like next week will bring some of the coldest air since 1983 to the Southern Plains. The models are consistently showing subzero temps in OK/TX/ARK with subfreezing temps into Mexico and over Florida – all accompanied by a strong wind. You can kiss the Citrus crops good bye.
It will be interesting to see if the cold front can make it all the way down to Panama and out to the Pacific via the Darien Gap like it did in 89.
There were thousands of people in downtown SLC last night for the New Year’s Eve Eve activities. They really shouldn’t blame the poor showing on a little snowstorm. There simply wasn’t enough interest. Now that is irony.
a student of international studies talking like the authority on climate change. these people use their hijacked brains to feel good. any scientific conclusions on climate they heard about in the news or magazines have numerous pitfalls, limitations, uncertainties and assumptions behind them that are never mentioned, understood, or appreciated. Yet, these reading bugs seem to think they know a lot.
Move along folks nothing to see here. The cool chicks have left the movement and the men have followed.
The “Gore Effect” strikes again! With an typical mean temperature of 25 degrees, December 30th might not have been the best day to schedule a global warming protest in Salt Lake City …
I think these climate change protesters need to start thinking for themselves.
Here’s a few videos they should take a look at with an open mind and ask themselves some questions about how much their idolised climate sceintists/data manipulators really know.
This guy is on to something. His forecasts are hard to get hold of because he has to make a living but……….

Happy New year everyone 🙂
Brings to mind that line from Ian Malcolm in Jurassic Park: “The lack of humility before nature that’s being displayed here, uh… staggers me.”
Borat voice: “Great Success!”
‘Man, you know, I was returning my Christmas gift and there were these people screaming on the sidewalk, you know, what’s that all about?’
Answer: Looks like the alarmists have gone stark raving mad.
So it’s true…God does have a sense of humour!
O/T but I’ve just seen the following in the local paper – it may be of interest:
Tim O’Riordan, emeritus professor of environmental sciences at UEA, is made an OBE for services to sustainable development.
Over the past 40 years Prof O’Riordan has been a hard voice to ignore as an advocate for a more sustainable future.
He has edited a number of books on the institutional aspects of global environmental policy and practice, and lead two EU research projects looking forward to a transition to sustainability.
Since retiring from his role as professor of environmental sciences at UEA in 2005 he has continued to keep his voice heard as an active member of Sustainable Development Commission until last year, and is the current Sheriff of Norwich.
I searched the emails, and his name appears in this one:

Maybe its time to start protesting the ignoring of Eddy Minimum.
Five inches of powdery snow in Salt Lake City yesterday. Not that cold (28F was max) and not very windy. People should have enjoyed the protest.
The article uncritically buys into identifying the protest as being about “Climate Change”. In fact, the change that is supposed to be of concern is Global Warming.
People may debate the existence of God, but they must acknowledge that if
He exists He has a sense of humor.
Seems to me they got their climate change. They can call it a success, declare “victory” and go home!
Lame idea anyway. Considering the politics of that state (over 80% Republican), it’d be like screaming Ayn Rand quotations at a socialist convention.
It wasn’t even really snowing, it was more of a freezing fog. It didn’t stop my dog from demanding his daily walk.
Reminds me of the “Peace Camp” at my University during the Gulf War. It made the National News (Canada) but in reality there were 20 empty tents and about a dozen wanna-be 1960’s protesters there. When the media showed up they got passers by to stand in so the nightly news could show 100s of protesters.
