On a normal day, Majken Friss Jorgensen, managing director of Copenhagen’s biggest limousine company, says her firm has twelve vehicles on the road. During the “summit to save the world”, which opens here tomorrow, she will have 200. “We thought they were not going to have many cars, due to it being a climate convention,” she says. “But it seems that somebody last week looked at the weather report.”
Ms Jorgensen reckons that between her and her rivals the total number of limos in Copenhagen next week has already broken the 1,200 barrier. The French alone rang up on Thursday and ordered another 42. “We haven’t got enough limos in the country to fulfil the demand,” she says. “We’re having to drive them in hundreds of miles from Germany and Sweden.”
And the total number of electric cars or hybrids among that number? “Five,” says Ms Jorgensen. “The government has some alternative fuel cars but the rest will be petrol or diesel. We don’t have any hybrids in Denmark, unfortunately, due to the extreme taxes on those cars. It makes no sense at all, but it’s very Danish.”
But wait, there’s more!
The airport says it is expecting up to 140 extra private jets during the peak period alone, so far over its capacity that the planes will have to fly off to regional airports – or to Sweden – to park, returning to Copenhagen to pick up their VIP passengers.
As well 15,000 delegates and officials, 5,000 journalists and 98 world leaders, the Danish capital will be blessed by the presence of Leonardo DiCaprio, Daryl Hannah, Helena Christensen, Archbishop Desmond Tutu and Prince Charles. A Republican US senator, Jim Inhofe, is jetting in at the head of an anti-climate-change “Truth Squad.” The top hotels – all fully booked at £650 a night – are readying their Climate Convention menus of (no doubt sustainable) scallops, foie gras and sculpted caviar wedges.

Left out of the calculated costs is all the dry cleaning and laundry for 12 days for 20,000 people. Also, the costs of all the new clothes so needed to shine their best. The phone calls made from cellphones needed to tweet, and the laptops they will bring to send their emails. Also the electric they will consume. All are tax deductible or tax payer provided one way or the other. So too, was left out the cost of the car rides to the airports back home to catch the planes to Copenhagen. So too is the opportunity cost lost by all the Danish not being able to mill about their capital as it is inundated with the security teams to protect such a fantabulous collection of royalist personages. Nor does the calculation seem to include the promotion costs, and the promotional material costs, or the printing costs for all the reports to be (not) read, and the handouts dropped, and the invitations to be delivered. Nor is the cost of landfill for the garbage collected. On and on one can go, deep into the abyss of government (tax payer) funding. By the time you get done, it is not merely a billion of whatever currency, it is far higher. Why not just call it Kazoodles of dollars, euros and pounds, all conveniently stuffed into the coffers of the King of Denmark so he might renovate one of his palaces.
Watching UK Channel 4 news from Gropenhagen. It seems that everyone is going to limit the global thermostat to a 2 degree rise. How does that work, then? They all seem to be singing from a hymnsheet that I don’t understand. Can’t they see? Don’t they know? Even Channel 4 is hopelessly biased. And “Climategate”? Of no apparent consequence – they are sold on the IPCC, and hopelessly blinkered. They STILL think they’re going to stop “Global Warming”, so if, as it is likely, the globe is cooling, will they then bask in triumphalism in a couple of years to come when the temperature is found not to have risen, but to have fallen? We realists appear to be on a loser, whatever. Of course, when the truth eventually outs, we (and they) will be long gone, so there’ll be nobody around to say “told you so”.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Denmark, hosting the UN climate conference in Copenhagen this December, has signed a contract for liquid bio ethanol to fuel the conference’s limousines. Unlike conventional bio fuels that are made from valuable food products like corn or sugar cane, the contract is for fuel made from plant chaff – an agricultural waste product.
Compared with regular gasoline, the so-called second generation bio fuel produced by the local company Inbicon will reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 85 percent.

1. I know a way that all the people attending the conference could have reduced their CO2 emissions 100% : don’t go!
2. There’s no way that all those limos are using bio-fuels. My gut tells me that the press release on fuel made from straw almost certainly covers just a few of the cars for the top VIPs as a publicity stunt. The vast majority of the limos are being privately rented from private companies who will get their fuel where they can and according the the press release ‘The second generation bio fuel is not yet commercially available’.
3. The fuel being consumed by the cars is *dwarfed* by the aviation gas expended.
4. As has been discussed on this site many times before, the 85% CO2 savings on any bio-fuel is pure fantasy.
5. Look at the pictures : this is not scientific, or even a political, debate. It is the high priests of the Church of AGW preaching to their disciples.
