Gore cancels on Copenhagen lecture – leaves ticketholders in a lurch

It seems the uncertainty about Copenhagen is growing. When Al baby pulls the plug, you know it’s hosed.

From Berlingske: Al Gore cancels lecture during COP15

Al Gore cancels lecture during COP15

Former U.S. vice president has canceled his event, more than 3,000 Danes have purchased a ticket. Photo: JOSE MENDEZ

Looks like they will get a refund though. Might be worth more as a collectors item in ten years though.

I wonder how many people have shelled out $1200 to shake Al’s hand? Maybe not enough and he couldn’t cover the expenses for his private jet?

From the Washington Post:

“Have you ever shaken hands with an American vice president? If not, now is your chance. Meet Al Gore in Copenhagen during the UN Climate Change Conference,” notes the Danish tourism commission, which is helping Mr. Gore promote “Our Choice,” his newest book about global warming in all its alarming modalities.

“Tickets are available in different price ranges for the event. If you want it all, you can purchase a VIP ticket, where you get a chance to shake hands with Al Gore, get a copy of Our Choice and have your picture taken with him. The VIP event costs DKK 5,999 and includes drinks and a light snack.”

Wait, what? How much is that in American dollars? The currency conversion says it all, too: 5,999 Danish kroners is equivalent to $1,209.

“If you do not want to spend that much money, but still want to hear Al Gore speak about his latest book about climate challenges, you can purchase general tickets, ranging in price from DKK 199-1,499 depending on where in the room you want to sit,” the practical Danes advise. “There will be large screens, so that everyone will get a good view.”

Yah, such a deal.

I think the MSM should be investigated and particularly Associated Press. AP also needs to be looked at in terms of anti-trust legislation.

There are reports that a Chicago group called We Are Change showed up at the book signing to protest and heckle. The first report I read said Gore ran from the event and he car was chased.
Not all reports read that way, though.

Anthony, we should be voting for WUWT not only as the top science blog for 2009, but as the top comedy blog. Your pictures are “deadly” (The Evil? Satan?) and you invite your your witty readers to make hay while the sun do shine. I have (almost) never laughed so hard. Special notice goes to elmer’s contribution — the “The Twelve Days of Global Warming” (3:27:47) – by Minnesotans 4 Global Warming
Evanmjones (13:37:03), so you’re the one who sets the agenda for our laughs. Sorry that you have the weeding job — but you enable a bountiful harvest. This is a class act!
Thanks a bunch.
(Just because I am laughing MAO today doesn’t mean I am not ready for agressive law suits, investigations, and jail time for the fraudsters tomorrow.)

I swear to you, everytime I see Al Gore, he looks more and more like the Wizard of Oz. And, it seems that like in the Wizards case, the curtain has been pulled aside for Mr. Gore also. Liberals have an amazing record, however, in getting people to believe in the stupidest most damaging things to their own well being–multiculturalism that isn’t, absurd forced programs consisting of every stupidity conceivable. Mass immigration to Western nations, making citizens and long time taxpayers of those nations second class citizens by giving preferences of every kind to the new “immigrants”,etc. All of this only happens in Western Nations for some reason. It is a testimony to the stupidity of some people that they would spend, in the economy such as it today is, one thousand-two hundred dollars!!!!! to listen to Gore.

What happened to alGore in Chicago?

And for the record, I don’t even remotely agree with this stuff. It’s childish and looks bad for whatever side uses it. Even though the left seem to love this stuff. I’m actually more impressed with the woman yelling “You’re an idiot” to the “protester” than with the “protester”.
The right is just going to have to figure out how to protest properly.
I did enjoy the way they broke traffic laws leaving, though. And I expect more of that sort of rapid egress in future.

Someone once said “I’d rather be gored by a boar than bored by a Gore”…
(I think William F. Buckley about Gore Vidal, but somehow apropos anyway…).
Would that other sites were as civil, informative, and interesting as this one.
Kudos to Anthony, the moderators, and all the contributors to this site,
and the WUWT community – the REAL real climate, as it were…
It seems the CRU folks (et al) have forgotten that a primary tenet of science
is skepticism, in that a theory is accepted until shown to be wrong, at which
point the new theory is accepted, although subjected to further scrutiny
then replaced when a better model comes along, etc.
Open review of data, processes (e.g. programs, models, etc.) facilitates
further analyses and progress, something which appears to have been
impeded by the Climate Gate being closed (as it were….sorry about the pun).
Here’s hoping that not just the MSM, but the voting public in general
sees the truth here, and digs deeper to see ‘Watts Up with That’.
All our (AGW-siphoned) money could well be used doing real science
and other useful things…..

BBC Radio 4’s PM news programme has obviously been doing a five-minute spot each evening leading up to Copenhagen.
Tonight’s speaker was Benny Peiser so at least one channel is providing a little bit of balance. Sorry I don’t have a link.

…FCC rules have been violated by not reporting on the Climategate scandal and their crime is obvious. The public must demand an investigation of the MSM.
It was done back in 1917 and guess who runs the mass media
In the Congressional Record for 1917, it is reported that “…the J.P. Morgan [banking] interests…. and their subsidiary organizations got together 12 men high up in the newspaper world and employed them to select the most influential newspapers in the United States and sufficient number of them to control generally the policy of the daily press of the US…. They found it was only necessary to purchase the control of 25 of the greatest papers. …an editor was furnished for each paper to properly supervise and edit information….” http://www.crossroad.to/articles2/006/conspiracy1.htm
And the Connection
According to Richard Folland advisor to JP Morgan banking interests:
“The financial sector has a major stake in Copenhagen. Decisions there will affect investment and business. At J. P. Morgan, we are significant participants in the carbon market as traders, project developers and in voluntary carbon offsetting. Our hope for Copenhagen is that we get clarity, to set out the long-term policy framework that investment needs…. Our fear is that an inability to reach an agreement puts these decisions on hold, thus delaying investment…”. http://www.newscientist.com/article/mg20427366.800-great-and-good-share-hopes-and-fears-for-copenhagen.html

If everyone who believes in man-made global warming would just have the courtesy to kill themselves, we could reduce the impact of humans on the climate by half. If they really believe and if they think we should all make sacrifices to save the planet, why don’t they make the ultimate sacrifice?
I promise that, after they are gone, we will raise monuments in their honor to thank them for their sacrifice…

Jeff;
“… in that a theory is accepted until shown to be wrong, at which
point the new theory is accepted…”
It is not required to propose a new theory to replace the old one. Simply disproving the existing one is sufficient to have it discarded.
That is part of the scientific method.
The AGW theory predicts that and increase in CO2 causes an increase in global temperature.
CO2 is higher now then it was in 1990.
Average global temperature is the same as it was in 1990.
The prediction made by the theory is wrong therefore the AGW theory must be discarded.
QED.

Also, as a Canadian, I don’t know what are the differences between the BBC stations? Why 4 or 5 of them?

REPLY:
Naw. I think he is worried his whole state is turning against him and you remember what they did to that Federal census taker a couple months ago. The people of Tennessee are NOT a people I would want as enemies.
LETTER from Tennessee General Assembly to ALL other State Legislatures:
“The following is a letter from Tennessee to the other 49 State Legislatures
We send greetings from the Tennessee General Assembly. On June 23, 2009, House Joint Resolution 108, the State Sovereignty Resolution, was signed by Governor Phil Bredesen. The Resolution created a committee which has as its charge to:
* Communicate the resolution to the legislatures of the several states,
* Assure them that this State continues in the same esteem of their friendship,
* Call for a joint working group between the states to enumerate the abuses of authority by the federal government, and
* Seek repeal of the assumption of powers and the imposed mandates.
It is for those purposes that this letter addresses your honorable body….
There are clear limits to the power of the federal government and clear realms of power for the states. However, the simple and clear expression of purpose, to secure our natural rights, has evolved into the modern expectation that the national government has an obligation to ensure our life, to create our liberty, and fund our pursuit of happiness.
The national government has become a complex system of programs whose purposes lie outside of the responsibilities of the enumerated powers and of securing our natural rights; programs that benefit some while others must pay…..
The role of our American government has been blurred, bent, and breached. The rights endowed to us by our creator must be restored.
To be sure, the People created the federal government to be their agent for certain enumerated purposes only. The Constitutional ratifying structure was created so it would be clear that it was the People, and not the States, that were doing the ratifying.
The Tenth Amendment defines the total scope of federal power as being that which has been delegated by the people to the federal government, and also that which is absolutely necessary to advancing those powers specifically enumerated in the Constitution of the United States. The rest is to be handled by the state governments, or locally, by the people themselves.
The Constitution does not include a congressional power to override state laws. It does not give the judicial branch unlimited jurisdiction over all matters. It does not provide Congress with the power to legislate over everything. This is verified by the simple fact that attempts to make these principles part of the Constitution were soundly rejected by its signers.
With this in mind, any federal attempt to legislate beyond the Constitutional limits of Congress’ authority is a usurpation of state sovereignty – and unconstitutional.
Governments and political leaders are best held accountable to the will of the people when government is local. The people of a state know what is best for them; authorities, potentially thousands of miles away, governing their lives is opposed to the very notion of freedom.
We invite your state to join with us to form a joint working group between the states to enumerate the abuses of authority by the federal government and to seek repeal of the assumption of powers and the imposed mandates…..”
http://www.tenthamendmentcenter.com/2009/10/20/they-cant-push-us-around-forever/
Okay Boy and Girls, those who are in the USA that is, it is time to kick your State Legislatures in the rumpus and get those State Sovereignty Resolutions passed. There is a turf war building and we need to take advantage of it. If we can not kill Cap and Trade at Copenhagen, if we can’t kill it in the US Senate, we CAN kill it on a state level state by state just as Real ID was killed .

Has anyone ever noticed that the leftists both in the U.S. Europe, and other Western Nations, always bitch about the environment, and in many ways rightly so, but are utterly against population control or mass immigration to the West. Yet, yet, they always tell us they are for quality of life issues. Yeah, sure.

Climategate made it as a 1st news story on the local CTV news (mainstream) channel on the 6:00PM news.
All I said was WOW!!
I highly doubt I had an impact but here is the e-mail I sent them earlier this week.
Climategate – Why no CTV News coverage?
Hello –
There is no end of coverage on Common Wealth climate change conference, bears eating cubs due to lack of Arctic ice and upcoming Copenhagen conference on CTV news.
However, there is just the sound of crickets when it comes to Climategate CTV news coverage.
Amazingly, Tiger Wood’s recent issues seem to be more important to CTV News than Climategate.
Why is there NO coverage on CTV news on the junk, fraudulent science that forms the basis for climate change treaties dubbed “Climategate”?
Surely CTV news must be interested in covering fraud and government waste in the trillions of dollars, or am off base?
“Climategate” has surpassed “Climate warming” on Google searches – CTV risks becoming irrelevant if it continues to ignore mainstream stories.
Please use this link – http://www.google.com and type in “Climategate” for more information or use this link for in depth coverage.

I have to say one thing, it’s refreshing to know, that some of todays youth are going to give these bums, these ex-politicians that sell this nation out on a daily basis by becoming lobbyists for every conceivable thing that hurts Americans, whether they are lobbyists of China, or for Saudi Arabia. Thank God, I thought the youth was all brainwashed and lost. Those in the universities that are inundated with leftists who brainwash these kids, are not working hard enough, I guess.
