From Tips and Notes to WUWT this comment
Daphne (20:11:58)
I found this website a few months ago, while creating some graphics for a friend at NOAA. While searching for references of what a “MMTS sensor” looks like, I found out here about the Marysville station, and after exploring a bit in morbid fascination, put the site in my bookmarks.
This week , WUWT has become my favorite site in the whole world.
I am so glad I knew exactly where to turn when this thing broke.
Thank you for all your work here; and thanks to all those leaving comments which educate me by the hour. This has been the most intellectually thrilling week ever!
=======
Thanks! This made my week, maybe my month. My moderation team of Charles, DB, and Evan, who works tirelessly in the background, appreciates this more than you can imagine.
You see, it has been an extraordinarily stressful and exhausting week here at WUWT, trying to keep up with it all. Traffic records have been smashed one day, only to be smashed again the next. Comments are coming at the rate of a couple per second at times. Emails, tips, requests arriving faster than we can deal with them sometimes. It’s been crazy. Add to my duties with Climate Audit and trying to keep it running (the server went into terminal overload) and working on migrating CA to a new location, I haven’t had much time to reflect.
Thank you for the kind words.
– Anthony and the WUWT moderation team.

Me too! I found WUWT almost 2 years ago as I started to doubt and it has educated me and entertained me since.
Over a period of several years I’ve gone from extreme Green to sceptic. I never was keen on the AGW hypothesis, though, for selfish reasons: I don’t like the idea of frying to death or being cannibalised – but I felt I was obliged to accept AGW if I couldn’t turn up some facts. So I was relieved to find this site, CA and related blogs with detailed and dispassionate discussion of facts, instead of mere generalisations and put-downs. For me, the tone of discussions is just as important as the content. Thank you, moderators.
It’s an extraordinary sensation to be able to watch news unfolding as it happens, and even add the occasional (probably rather pointless) comment in the process.
Please keep up the great work. Sorry that all I can offer at the moment are thanks, but they are heartfelt.
Thank you for all your work here; and thanks to all those leaving comments which educate me by the hour.

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.

A HUGE thank you to the good men: Anthony, Charles, DB, and Evan.
This site is a major island of sanity in a rising sea of stupidity.
Keep up the good work Anthony (et al.).
Cheers
Mark
I too have WUWT to thank for my enlightened journey from acceptance to denial of the AGW thesis.
What you and Steve have done is doggedly present the facts while pointing out errors and bad practice.
I believe this used to be called ‘jounalism’.
No democracy can function without a free press – you do a great service to us all.
Thank you.
It’s been a really crazy week! Kudos for all this WUWT team; your work is really appreciated. This is the way to go!

Keep it up. My alarmist friends are running out of rebuttals to the arguments I give them from here.
I think Daphne speaks for all of us.
Thank you
Thank you

Thank you from the bottom of my heart, Anthony, jeez, charles, and other part-time moderators. I’ll never forget the welcome I had here when I arrived fresh from a U-turn from ardent warmist to cool skeptic. Also the true warning that I would lose friends.
Anyone wanting to read a Primer in skeptical Climate Science at this point, please click my name. Slightly dated but still 100% relevant.
Anything we can do to help, please let us know. It’s important that we help support those who are doing painful U-turns if possible, I think, and help those who have turned 90 degrees like Judith Curry and George Monbiot, to turn the full 180 degrees, to realize it’s not just bad behaviour, it’s also seriously inadequate science and, sadly, many lay people have noticed before the professionals have done.
I must thank christopher booker of the daily telegraph. His articles raised awareness and pointed me in the direction of wuwt and ca the posters then send on on a tuly illuminating journey. I too am disappointed in msm coverage, particularly the bbc. During question time on thursday an audience member asked if global warming was a scam. The programme took place in scotland just after the s scotland/cumbrian floods(weather not climate). The panel consisted of a green comic, two agw supporters an right wing agnostic and a journo. All chaired by the v green mr dimblby. Scotland. Is a left leaning country. In their responses none mentioned the cru emails. How can this be? One has to assume that it was a taboo subject or the editor had been busy. When the journo(from the daily mail) stated that it was indeed a scam and that polar bears and sea ice were increasing she was mauled. She answered the question first followed by the other panel members and was not allowed rebuttal. The bbc is complicit in the scam. The evergreen dimblby lost respect.
Seconded, thirded or whatever we’re up to by now-ded!
It’s only the dedication to rational science shown by people like yourself and Steve which has enabled the bad science being committed by those at the top of the climatology pyramid to be exposed for what it is. The principles you have pushed for of sound measurements, openness of data and ‘adjustments’, and fairness and rigor of peer review are the foundations on which climate science must be rebuilt.
Once we’ve torn down the current crumbling unsafe edifice, that is!
Adding my heartfelt thanks to Daphne’s, and to all those above!
I’ve been lurking for some time here because there was so much to learn, from the contributors and the comments to each post.
Being a zoologist, I simply could not accept the AGW alarmist calls – to me, this made no sense, because their aim, to stop any changes, means ultimately that they want to stop evolution from happening.
I don’t need to spell out the arrogance of that attitude!
I’ve been coming here for much-needed dose of sanity. Further, it gave and gives me great joy that there are still people who do science the only way – not the perverted way these frauds have been doing and propagating.
Thanks for everything – and also thanks to all you commentators!
Again, a heartfelt thank-you for all the information, time and hard work put in. I would have said so earlier, but thought extra emails might actually be a nuisance rather than a bonus!
I still remember the thrill when I sent in a quick off-topic post and link (to Hansen saying “Democracy isn’t working”) and checked back later, to find it had been made a lead story and I had a hat-tip!
Your site is truly scientific, truly educational and truly democratic.
Thanks a million.

That is the sad truth…. state funded science gives the UK the CRU and AGW propaganda… state funded journalism gives the UK the BBC and Iraqi WMD propaganda… state funded health gives the UK the NHS and MMR vaccine propaganda…
I crossed the BBC rubicon reading about the death of Dr David Kelly but that is another story….
Googling “Climategate” now gives only 10% less hits than “Bill Gates”.
Signal flags reading “Bravo Zulu” hoisted and nailed to the mast.

If my boss only knew the time I spent on WUWT
I have a fantastic job, I travel, I am payed very well
BUT I like WUWT much better
Thank you Anthony and all for some of the most enlightened times in my life, again thank you.
Yes, Anthony and staff, You’ve done a very nice job at hiding the decline of scepticism this past week. 😉
Oh, but there probably is no such decline to hide, is there? 🙂
Great work as usual WUWT, but more impressive than ever considering the growth of the interrest during the past week! 🙂
Thank you Anthony and moderators, you have certainly outdone yourselves this week. High quality posts, moderation, comments and science make this the best site. This is truly an oasis of sanity in a hysterical world.

BBC announce UK Govt. Climate gate inquiry, the cover-up begins.

…Sorry, but this is an internal inquiry by the UEA, so it’s discredited before it even begins.

As for:
“7. This warmed molecule of “greenhouse gas” will emit something less than 50% of this energy back towards the surface of the Earth as infrared radiation, no dispute here.
”
You have bought in to the biggest piece of BS around. The 1/2 up 1/2 down argument is meant to confuse.
1. When CO2 absorbs a IR photon the energy is absorbed into the rest of the atmosphere. Not re-radiated 1 for 1.
2. What determines the IR radiated is the temperature of the atmosphere
3. IR path links (except for the 10 micron window) are very short in the troposphere.
4. The majority of the heat flow in the troposphere is by convection.
5. There are multiple ir patths to space.
Surface (10 micron window)
Moisture (about 5-8Km)
Cloud Tops
CO2 (@ur momisugly Stratopause)
6. What sets the earths effective radiative temperature is the atmospheric lapse rate which drives the local IR level radiated to space.
Do not buy into the AGW spin argument of 1/2 up 1/2 down. It is incredible how many people do.
One blog that never gets mentioned is by the Professor Philip Stott:

It is fantastic.
“d thompson (02:14:06) :
The bbc is complicit in the scam.”
…The BBC can be classed as no more than a “useful idiot” in this regard, along with the Guardian. They just take all the lying propaganda from wherever about “global warming”, and, without checking anything, broadcast it to the world as if it all were all proven scientific fact.
This is not new. The BBC’s policy was formed 36 years ago, when they broadcast a program called “The Weather Machine”. The program speculated that weather patterns and the climate was being altered by human activity, especially aircraft flying through the jetstream. It was all hypothetical, of course, and no scientific evidence was produced to back up their theory, but they’ve persisted with the idea of man-made climate change ever since.
My thanks again to WUWT. Great stuff.
There is a full-pager in the Daily Telegraph in the UK today, by Gordon Rayner. It is kind of grudging, suggesting that Climategate might have the undesirable effect of making people doubt the soundness of the AGW science in the run up to the Copenhagen conference. Still, a full page. For a few days I feared that the MSM in this country were going to succeed in hiding the story. Now, I think not.
I had lunch with a group of University social scientists yesterday. In the conversation, I asked if they had heard of the CRU story. Only a couple had. However, they all seemed to be sceptical of the science behind Global Warming (or Climate Change, or whatever). Social scientific intellectuals tend to lean to the left, in both the UK and the USA. So when they start being sceptical, then perhaps we really are looking at a big and maybe irreversible shift of opinion, which WUWT has done so much to bring about.
Am also a faithful reader with no desire to break this habit (though every day I try to quit the cigarettes). Thanks a million and ditto to all that Daphne and others have had to say. Tip jar here I come.
