Gore’s presentation on climate change draws 800 as 200 protestors gather outside
By George Bennett Palm Beach Post Staff Writer
Confused Palm Beach County voters helped thwart Al Gore’s 2000 bid to become president of the United States, but he was introduced as “president of the planet” when he returned here Saturday night to deliver an environmental lecture.
The former vice president spoke on climate change at the Mizner Park Amphitheater to a crowd of about 800. More than 200 protesters gathered across the street from the event, and their boos and chants could be heard inside the amphitheater as Gore began his presentation.
Gore lost Florida, and the White House, by 537 votes to George W. Bush in a 2000 as many Palm Beach County Democrats said they mistakenly voted for conservative Pat Buchanan because they were confused by the county’s “butterfly ballot” design.
After losing the presidential race, Gore became arguably the world’s most famous advocate for curbing carbon emissions, gaining eco-celebrity status with the film An Inconvenient Truth and winning a Nobel Peace Prize in 2007.
“It’s an interesting twist of fate here in our own backyard that former Vice President Al Gore has taken on a new platform and is now a catalyst for world change,” said Marci Zaroff, an “eco-entrepeneur” who introduced Gore.
“So, in essence, he’s president of the people. He’s president of the planet. And the work that he’s doing is more important than any other work that could possibly be done.”
Tickets for the event sold for $44 to $339, with proceeds going to the nonprofit Alliance for Climate Protection that Gore chairs.
Gore began his remarks by calling climate change “the most dangerous problem we’ve ever faced. But it is also a tremendous opportunity for us to solve problems that have been neglected for a long time.”
Organizers allowed the media to cover only the first few minutes of Gore’s presentation.
In addition to his nonprofit advocacy, Gore is a partner in a venture capital firm that finances “sustainable” and alternative energy businesses, prompting some critics to accuse Gore of promoting environmental policies that will fatten his bank account.
“Cap & Tax — Don’t Be Fooled: Al Gore Will Make billions,” read a sign carried by Alan Tudor, who drove from Tampa to attend Saturday’s protest.
“Gore’s Favorite Green Product? Your money in his pocket,” said another sign.
Gore spokeswoman Kalee Kreider said Gore’s investments are consistent with positions he has held for decades.
“Former Vice President Gore has made long-term investments in ‘sustainable’ companies, the vast majority of which are not directly involved with efforts to solve the climate crisis. He has also invested in some companies that have attempted and will continue to help solve the climate crisis. These are a reflection of his values,” Kreider said in an e-mail.
“If he did not invest in technologies that he supported, these very same people would accuse him of being a hypocrite,” Kreider said.

President of the planet????
He lost that election by MILLIONS of votes!!
A candidate once passed over by the public turns vindictive.
Bush bested him while his supporters were less than enthusiastic.
A score to settle might fit what’ was going on under the hood when the big plan for scaring the public off a cliff took seed.
AGW fit the bill perfectly. All that was left to do was finish the business of blowing the current warm phase out of all proportion, and feeding that message into the MSM bullhorn.
He’s running out of sheltered places to peddle his message, the cover of agenda is thinner than 1st year ice in Palm Beach. Somebody better get him on over to Copenhagen, and leave him there.

Ironically, apple pie originated in the netherlands.
@Amabo (14:46:47) :
“Ironically, apple pie originated in the netherlands.”
The Dutch got tobacco and the Americans got apple pie out of that cultural exchange. Those Yankee traders were sharp ‘uns, eh?
Anyone who wants to see how the “green” scam workds should look at the Molten Metal’s story where Al Gore helped this metals recovery company get $27 million in grants and even went to Fall River, MA on earth day 1996 to say how this company was the future. The stock price soared to $35 a share. When insiders such as Maurice Strong (one of the archiitects of the Kyoto Protocol) and Peter Knight, Gore’s top Senate aid became aware the grants were drying up they sold over 15 million dollars of stock before the stock became worthless, costing honest investors millions in October of 1996.
You should read some of the comments people posted on the site. There were many ignorant posts about global warming all repeating the unproven mantra. I posted 2, quickly shutting down with facts the “its worse than we thought” chant. Someone said (not these exact words, but this idea), “we don’t want your money, just want you to change your lifestyle to save the planet.” I pointed that person to the Copenhagen treaty which called for redistribution of wealth from rich nations to poor nations. Another person said the poles were shrinking. I told that person the Antarctic reached a record high. I then begged him to do research. I asked to be an informed person, which will make you Al Gore’s enemy.
It is simply amazing how blind faith and ignorance cause people to act.
I think the “Precautionary Principle” has a lot to answer for. It puts the whole thing into four boxes, two “if AGW is right” two “if AGW is wrong”, two “take action against AGW” and two “take no action”. This appears to show it is better to take precautions.
THE ONLY PRECAUTION THAT WORKS IS TO CHECK THE SCIENCE.
Sorry about the caps. But the PP is a real trap for so many otherwise-gentle, concerned, ignorant, well-meaning green folk who trust the scientists, think Al Gore is a scientist, don’t do science themselves, and don’t recognize that they are about to be led into the underworld by the Pied Piper.
Al Gore’s appearance has changed. He used to be quite handsome. He now looks like a gargoyle off an old church – the stonemasons knew how to portray devious elementals. Oh heck, so is Al Gore a surprisingly rotund Pied Piper, taking revenge for the time when the ballots were rigged against him?
“It’s a real shame he doesn’t speak Chinese. Imagine the good he could do for the planet if he only spoke a little Chinese.”

Hey, I didn’t say I’d shoot him or anyone should. It is only the truth that if someone like Gore arose in China, he would be dealt with in the manner that the Chinese government has used countless times, without hesitation.
The non-profits have a political agenda but they pale in comparison to damage Foundations do to the mental health of the people in our country. Please educate yourselves as to what Foundations are all about.

Oh, you mean a high speed inter-cranial copper-coated lead injection.
That just shows how merciful the Chinese are. May big Al have a long life serving as an example of what not to be. Maybe he and Alan Greenspan can hangout together in the loser’s corner wondering what went wrong.

Lucy, I love you
though you’re way
too good for me.
Take your precautionary principle and stuff it! Wrecking the world economy is not being cautious. The Great Depression was a major cause of WWII which killed 50 -80 million people and left Europe and Japan in ruins. What WWIII would do is beyond me.
Pascvaks (10:40:40) : It’s a real shame he doesn’t speak Chinese. Imagine the good he could do for the planet if he only spoke a little Chinese.
He doesnt even speak English. That dreadful twang of his couldnt possibly pass for English. Maybe thats a consequence of him “speaking with forked tongue”.
But frankly I cant imagine any good he would do for the planet by speaking in any language. That sign that said “Gore’s Favorite Green Product? Your money in his pocket,” was right on the button.
The Tay-ime for taalking is over. Noe its tay-ime ta collect yooure money.
The money was collected for a “non-profit” organisation he heads – what a laugh! The biggest ripoff is to collect for a non-profit organisation. You dont pay the govt any taxes like honest businesses do and you dont make any profit because you pay yourself for the selfless services you render!
Only honest businesses make profits, because profits are shared with the shareholders.
He invests in the businesses he believes in? More like he invests in the businesses he promotes through his lies.
Lucy,
My “stuff it” was not of course directed at you, dear. I am pissed at so-called “erring on the side of caution.” When dealing with other folks lives, no error is tolerable. Cutting CO2 is not in self risk-free based on growing food needs and possible global cooling. Add to that the risks to the economy of cutting the major energy source while entering a worldwide depression!
Hey! I speak Chinese. The Chinese are an urbane, sophisticated people. True, they are given to enthusiasms, on occassion… but I’d like to think that their response to Gore would be something along the lines of “wang-bah-dann” – the first syllable means “king”, the second “eight” and the third “egg”… and when used together mean something entirely different.

I think that terrorists flying loaded Passenger Planes into people filled skyscrapers blowing up subways and hotels would be higher on my problems list…
America, you have to be more careful who you’re voting for the next time you have to elect a President. We now have arrived in a situation where the clock reads two minutes to twelve. We are on the brink of losing our freedom.
For the next elections, perform some serious due diligence before you go hysterical about any candidate.
Maybe you check their psychological records, political background and birth register before you decide to cast your vote.
Maybe the Secret Service should take our candidates through the same tests as our military that controlled our nuclear arsenal during the Cold War.
Something has to be done.
The quality of the Presidential candidates has been questionable since Clinton.
Would you have voted for Al Gore if you had known more about his ambitions?
Al Gore who was in favor of Kyoto, who tells you that he has invented the Internet and married a wife called “Tipper”? Give me a break!
With the election of Obama, the choice of the American people really went of the rail.
Obama talked about “change” and “spreading the wealth”, spoke about a civil army and the deliberate bankrupting of coal long before the elections, so every well thinking citizen could have known that he was a convinced socialist (or worst) from the beginning.
Please be a little bit more critical America and be aware that your political system has been infiltrated with people who don’t have the intention to serve you, the public.
Stay away from candidates with links to people like George Soros or Warren Buffet.
We know they have a political agenda.
Don’t make the mistake to elect a “Swinger” Republican next time who after the elections suddenly is in favor of cap & trade or a Democrat who kicks Obama but after the elections picks up the same policies.
The warmist’s can be found everywhere now and we won’t be safe for their agenda until we have killed the Global Warming Hoax. We must replace it with the real science.
Don’t trust the MSM, don’t trust anybody and take care you’re 100% sure you can do the real deal.
Hopefully we have learned from the past.
I really think the USA deserves a second chance, to restore the damages without loosing our freedom.
The USA really is the last bastion of freedom and we can’t afford to loose it.
Lucy Skywalker: “Al Gore’s appearance has changed. He used to be quite handsome. He now looks like a gargoyle off an old church – the stonemasons knew how to portray devious elementals.”
Haha. Interesting mutation no doubt. I thought it was just my imagination when the transformations started to take place.
Spot on observations, as always, Lucy.

WHAT IS THE DIFFFERENCE BETWEEN GORE AND CHICKEN LITTLE?
I’D SAY ABOUT $100 MILLION

The “Precautionary Principle” always start with “if”.
If a bull frog had wings, it wouldn’t bump it’s hind end.
Yes, check the science. Then recheck it.
juandos (13:28:54) :
‘Hmmm, and to think that the whiners sent Bernie Madoff to prison for a mere $50 billion…’
Madoff is a step above Al Gore.
We had quite a tea party for liar in chief Al. There is something unseemly about ginning up a lie and then profiting from it. I wonder when Al Gore’s investors will sue?
Lucy Skywalker (16:06:16) :…Al Gore’s appearance has changed. He used to be quite handsome. He now looks like a gargoyle off an old church ..
To be fair that’s a genuine case of anthropogenic climate change and, judging by the suddenness of the change after “inconvenient truth”, it would be a true hockey stick graph.
But while on the subject of beauty and gargoyles, you could stick Pachauri’s face on Notre Dame cathedral without anyone batting an eyelid.
Ron de Haan (19:08:30) :

Those of us who did were castigated by the True Believers.
And most of *them* are still firmly convinced that a rainbow unicorn pony will fly through their kitchen windows some morning and fart gold dust all over the flatware…
Surely it is only proper that Gore is elected president of the planet that bears his name.
