And I was so looking forward to seeing Gavin Schmidt on the USA Olympic Hockey Team when they try to beat the Canadian.
From Reuters: Olympics-2016 Games could be the last, says Tokyo governor
COPENHAGEN, Sept 30 (Reuters) – Tokyo governor Shintaro Ishihara warned on Wednesday the 2016 Olympics could be the last Games, with global warming an immediate threat to mankind.
Tokyo is bidding to host the 2016 summer Olympics with Chicago, Rio de Janeiro and Madrid also in the running. The International Olympic Committee will elect the winning candidate during its session on Oct. 2 in the Danish capital.
“It could be that the 2016 Games are the last Olympics in the history of mankind,” Ishihara told reporters at a Tokyo 2016 press event ahead of the vote.
“Global warming is getting worse. We have to come up with measures without which Olympic Games could not last long.
“Scientists have said we have passed the point of no return,” said Ishihara.
Tokyo has put considerable emphasis on staging a green Games with the planned Olympic stadium the first to be fully powered by renewable energy, including solar power.
“Tokyo is prepared to do everything to create the best conditions for the athletes,” he said.

Is it too late for the UK to hand the 2012 Olympics to Tokyo? Teflon Tony Blair landed us with this expensive circus (and the embarrassing 2012 logo) to serve his over-bloated ego. That was after he blatantly lied about the expense and conveniently forgot to add on the hundreds of millions in Value Added Tax (hell of a misnomer).
Not only that, one of the major sponsors has recently put out cringingworthy and highly contemptible “green” adverts linked to the event (since apparently removed from the internet due to copyright issues). London 2012, it has been claimed, will be the first ever “green” olympics. I reckon the green actually refers to the billions of pounds currently being sucked over the event horizon of the project’s bugetary black hole. Personally, I’d like to see Blair and Brown spaghettified by their own, willfully created fiscal singularity of which the Olympics is but a small part. Can I say that?
The ages of the Enlightenment and Industrial Revolutions are over. Welcome the age of Japanese costumed treeman worship, Californian latte sipping teens who fantasise about Stalinism, Will Smith Scientology run education centers, the nanny state requiring Photoshopping to be regulated, Roman Polanski didn’t drug and rape a 13 year old because it wasn’t “rape-rape”, and a faith based global warming cult for wealthy cocaine snorting elitists.
(I didn’t exaggerate one bit there. All true)
Oh, good grief.
Hold them in Pt. Barrow, Alaska. Surf’s up, dude.
It could be that the 2016 Games are the last Olympics in the history of mankind
If only!
The 2016 will be in Chicago. There is zero doubt of it.
If this were not the case, President Obama wouldn’t have gone to Copenhague this week. It is an arranged thing. Done. It is a foregone conclusion, lads.
Obama has to push the message even further! What will he eventually say? That he will change the location from Chicago to Anchorage. Maybe Fairbanks? Is there something norther?

Canuckistan wasn’t even in the final. hehe
Is the fact the media is trying to scare people as much as they can over climate change an Olympic sport? The BBC and Hadley could get medels in that event.
So they’re trying to say that after 2016, the world will be too hot for the Olympics!? After seeing little change in average summer high temperature here in Wichita for the past 10 years the only way you’ll see unbearable heat in the stadiums by then is if enough hot air was blown out of the debate chambers where politicians are talking climate.
Ecotretas,
How about Antarctica?

Or Melbourne in 1956?
Well, I’m not colored very surprised at all…. “Now kiddies… No fun and games until you clean up your carbon emissions!”
And mayor Daley in Chicago, and Barack Obama… They’re spineless cowards, both of them, for being the mediums through which the Voice of the Movement makes things happen, for acting as the “one step below God” popes in this new religious movement!
Sigh… Well, one thing’s for sure: this display of pandering and servitude seperates the boys from the men for the next elections. If it’s a sacrifice they want, then it will be theirs to bear… their position and power, for failing to be worthy leaders.
“Peter (13:30:26) :

If they really believed then they would drop their campaign for Tokyo in 2016 and instead launch a bid for Scott Base in Antartica. I recommend that all the AGW alarmists should attend. Summer clothing only required.

And wasn’t the Victoria World Cup for club teams won be the Swedish team Zurku Lions, beating the Obama Black Hawks?
Ishihara isn’t “right-wing”, he’s an unclassifiable lunatic. His continued electoral success in the urban, allegedly urbane Kanto region is a continual reminder that I really don’t understand the first thing about the Japanese.
Irrespective of anything in any way related to climate I read that they are introducing female boxing (and perhaps a few other extremely marginal ‘sports’) for 2012 in London.
I can’t imagine why.
I don’t consider myself to be at all conservative in my social views but I think that any society that can include such an activity in an event claimed to be ‘noble’ in a moral sense is heading rapidly towards self destruction. Add in the constant bombardment about ‘risk’ and ‘health and safety’ regulations and then try to reconcile them. Nothing stacks up. The world is becoming, perhaps has now passed the tipping point and already is, utterly cognitively dissonant.
Time to roll out the kevlar helmets – we could be in for a rough ride. If not us then our children and grandchildren for the legacy they will have to deal with which will be far worse than anything a changing climate could throw at them.
doesn’t everyone know that the 2016 olympics will never come to fruition. the world is going to end on dec. 21 2012! please disregard any further comments relating to the 2016 summer olympics by the Tokyo governor, Shintaro Ishihara. Thank You and enjoy the the few years left of life as we know it.
It appears that the crazies are in charge of the asylum. If hoaxing the world were not so serious it would be hilarious. Public acceptance of this AGW crap is driven by ignorance on behalf of the great majority and sheer arrogance by our so called leaders. I did a sum: 6 billion people weigh about 500 million tonnes. Thats less than the weight of water in Sydney harbour, about 560 million tonnes. Then there is the Pacific and the Atlantic and so on. Humans are such insignificant creatures but we can warm the planet and best yet we can cool it down. That is arrogant.

“We promise to be politically correct as possible so please gives us the games.”
After all the noise they are making about it what embarrasment it would be for Barak and Michelle Obama if Chicago is not named. What a fall down to earth for them!
I read the Japanese President’s comments this morning and could not stop laughing until I read Midhelle Obama’s speech, them I REALLY started laughing while shaking my head in disbelief at the stupidity of her comments.
Without question, the LOONS WERE LOOSE IN COPENHAGEN TODAY!
If what Diane Feinstein said about the Northwest Passage being icefree year round is true, then the summer Olympics can be held in Iqaluit! Perfect venue for sailing. The polar bears will all be gone by then too!
What is perhaps more worrisome is the effect of Anthropogenic Global warming on the winter Olympic Games. The last of those should come even sooner, in 2014 perhaps? And more importantly where? Do you reckon we will still have enough snow left at the Scott Base in Antarctica? Or the Summit, Greenland? We could perhaps still have the summer games at Arkangelsk in Russia or Nome, Alaska in 2020?

Oh quite sorry for being so late coming here. Have been a bit busy reading the long long stories about the Syberian trees.
““Scientists have said we have passed the point of no return,” said Ishihara.”
Our mayor is originally a good-seller writer, and his late brother was a movie actor, and hence has no experience in scientific fields whatsoever. Probably one or some AGWers, still rampant here in Japan and one of my colleagues being one of them, may have indoctrinated him with this popular idea.
I am very sorry for his misdemeanor……………

Duh. Victim of Muphrey’s law. Guess I should have been more hemisphere-specific. I blame it on continental drift, Halley’s Comet, George Bush, Locusts!
So that leaves South America, Africa, and Antarctica without Olympic games. McMurdo and Lagos haven’t put in bids, so I’m still rooting for Rio.
Many believe that the Chicago fix is in. We shall soon see whether Mayor Daley owns more than the White House.
