This video looks at the project’s estimated $4.7 billion construction cost, reported $2 billion in tax credits, Massachusetts’ projected ratepayer savings, the 2024 blade failure and remediation, and the debate over public support for future offshore-wind development.
Massachusetts lawmakers are also considering an offshore-wind pre-development program that would permit state co-investment intended in part to reduce project risk, making the question of who bears those risks especially relevant.

Building an off-shore wind farm in nor’easter alley is not a good idea. Were the engineers thinking that the Big One will never strike their wind farm?
In truth, as a Kalifornian, I doubt “the Big One” has ever had any impact outside of our state.
I live in B.C. and we do worry about the earthquakes in the ocean that might happen along the Cascadia fault.
But if you stopped 10 people at random on any street in your area and ask “tell me your top 10 worries”, I bet nobody will mention that potential destructive earthquake.
Not surprisingly the effects of hurricanes were modelled long before the turbines were built. Have a look at:

And in 2025 Hurricane Erin passed through the region and the turbines at Vineyard Wind continued to generate power throughout.

Severe hurricanes are rare in the northeast but they can happen. The hurricane of ’38 knocked down millions of acres of forest in the region. If they can do that, how well will the wind turbines handle that?
I understand that they are designed to withstand a Category 3 hurricane. I thought I heard that global warming was going to make hurricanes stonger. Only a matter of time in any event

The engineers involved are being paid to design and build the things. It’s a job, they have to earn a living.
By and large, the decisions to build these thing are not made by engineers, they are made by innumerate zero-STEM education people who do not listen to, and think they know better than, engineers.
Reminds me of the engineers who tried to warn of the O-rings and were silenced leading to the Challenger disaster.

I subscribe to Mike Urban’s YouTube channel. He really rails against the state of Wokeachusetts government. He is one of the few people with the guts to do this. He’s fearless in doing this- in a state when almost nobody else does.

Mike, have you ever been driving in the mountain west where a lot of these wind farms are clogging our mountain sides? You were surprised that most of the turbines you saw were idle on a windy day, well that’s exactly what has been happening for decades here in the west: any time I’m driving past a wind farm I’ll notice that less than 10% are turning, among the literal thousands blanketing the hillsides. Such a continuous waste of resources.
