UK sustainable aviation fuel mandate to cost RAF £1bn

From NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THAT

By Paul Homewood

h/t Ian Magness

Following news that Britain only has enough drones to last a week in the event of war, it is good to hear that the RAF has got its priorities right!

From the Telegraph:

The RAF will spend more than £1bn over the next 15 years on switching to sustainable jet fuel.

Ministry of Defence (MoD) figures show the move to sustainable fuel for RAF flights will cost more than £100m each year by 2040.

The Government’s sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) mandate on all flights departing the UK will apply to journeys by RAF aircraft on military exercises and deployments.

Sustainable fuel can be produced from used cooking oil and household rubbish, and reduces lifetime emissions by up to 80 per cent compared to conventional jet fuel.

However, it is typically three times the price of regular fuel, so the mandate will add significantly to the British military’s fuel bills over the next 15 years.

By 2040, ministers say 22 per cent of aviation fuel must come from sustainable sources, even though official projections show it will still be almost twice as expensive as conventional fuel by that date.

Figures released by the MoD in response to parliamentary questions from the Conservatives show that the total additional cost of using sustainable fuel will be more than £1bn.

The same sum could buy 12 F-35 Lightning stealth fighters or a Type 45 warship, or pay the salaries of 2,500 regular soldiers for 15 years.

“Sustainable fuel can be produced from used cooking oil and household rubbish . . .”

Does anyone believe that?

No. And I’m betting that “sustainable” will also be found to cause additional damage to the engines.

The fuel actually is of very high quality, meeting ASTM D-7566 and other international standards. The main problem is that at the very least “sustainable” is a misnomer.

Given the cost of living crisis the claim is nonsense.

Belief not required, only the mandate from the ruler:

Converting used cooking oil to diesel has been going on for decades, at least.
In some cases all you have to do is filter it.

I’m sure you know that jet’s a very different animal than diesel. I’ll bet it takes a lot of (expensive) processing to turn used cooking oil into a product that can work at the low temperatures at altitude.

He’s reported to be a multi-millionaire. Not bad going since he’s never really had a proper job – a brief stint as a researcher for a Channel 4 TV show and then jumped onto the politics bandwagon, first as adviser and then MP. He also spent a year at Harvard. Despite all his education – PPE at Oxford, economics at LSE and Harvard – he still appears to be as ignorant about economics as Rachel from Complaints.

Don’t worry, we only have a dozen or so aircraft.

The UK has sanctions on Russia to help Ukraine. A war begins in the Middle East and the Gays Straits (gotta be inclusive) of Hormuz are shut. Dilemma: Reopen the North sea or… relax sanctions on Russia and stab your alleged ally in the back, simultaneously?

On the subject of Standard Oil supplied oil to Germany during WW2 mainly through Spain and Vichy French Colonies. They also helped in the development of synthetic rubber with IG Farben before 1942 when America was involved after Pearl Harbour.
On the other hand SS Ohio of Pedestal fame were Texas Oil and she was operated by Eagle Oil.

Probably best going to Texaco for fuel if you worry about these things

Your comment won’t work as most people don’t know todays name(s) of Standard Oil –
but we may add that the owners of said family were behind the Club of Rome and donated the Manhattan territory to the UN , which would not exist without organizing, financing and consolidating Germans War Industry via Thyssen, the Great Union Bank and the Banking family Blinkens father founded a private equity firm with.

Actually US banks did much financing of the Nazi loans to rebuilt the German military between WW1 and 2. There were good interest payments in gold. Then they lent to the British as well….in copious amounts but of fiat money. Fearing that the British might lose WW2 and thus fail to repay the loans, the US banking system encouraged the U.S. politicians to involve the U.S. military in the European conflict….which had been an idea unpopular with U.S. voters…but the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japanese forces somehow was used as the reason to go to the European conflict. Following the winning of WW2…30 years of repaying war debts caused the British empire to go broke. There you go…is it revisionist history or not ?

Germany and Italy declared war on the US, thereby ensuring that the US got involved in the European conflict. Whether the US would have declared war on Germany if Germany hadn’t got in there first is open to debate. The USN was already quite active in escorting Atlantic convoys so direct formal involvement might have been inevitable.

History is a fable humans agreed on according to Napoleon ;
So does revisonism even matter?

Usually revisonism is nowadays used as a negative – the climate deniers of history.

Now Japan attacked Pearl Harbor only after USAcut them off from 90% gas supply and permanently attacking their ships,
knowing very well that Japan would retaliate if they terrorize them enough. And Pearl harbor was their bait /catalyst – thus all relevant ships were absent during the attack.
“The blow(Pearl harbor ) was heavier the he(FDR) had hoped – but it paif off”
JW Daniels, FDR assistant
(no Pearl harbor, no option for FDR push for UN)

So the official explanation is, as always, incompetence, underestimation, missaprehension
(the trinity of all politics, successfulassassination attempts etc)

Unicorn fuel is more common than sustainable aviation fuel.

These people are so perverted that they’d put a Windmill on top of a ship to power it instead of using sails.

It’s a good thing that this climate scam wasn’t being advanced during World War 2. If the RAF had been required to operate on sustainable fuel, the Battle of Britain would have been lost within a week.
