“For the Heartland Institute and its supporters, DeSmog’s reporting serves as a ringing endorsement of their effectiveness. Even in the UK, the exaggerated arguments for the green scam are being revealed.”
MasterResource has posted on the success of the Chicago-based Heartland Institute in the UK/EU fight for energy/climate realism and social justice. DeSmog just provided an update that should be very encouraging to Heartland and its supporters.
In “Nigel Farage to Headline Tufton Street Climate Denial Event” (June 18, 2025), authors Adam Barnett and Sam Bright report:
Reform UK leader Nigel Farage is set to speak at an event today organised by a pro-Trump think tank and held in the home of the UK’s main climate science denial group.
Farage, whose party campaigns to scrap the UK’s goal of achieving net zero emissions, is the star speaker at the event, described as a “ground-breaking conversation about climate policy….”
Authors Adam Barnett and Sam Bright continued in their report, self-described as a ‘reveal’.
The event has been convened by the UK-EU branch of the Heartland Institute, a U.S. group that has been at the forefront of denying the scientific evidence for man-made climate change. It is being hosted in 55 Tufton Street, the home of the Global Warming Policy Foundation, which claims – like Farage – that carbon dioxide is not a pollutant.
True, CO2 is not a pollutant. Not so true on anthropogenic climate change, which skeptics of climate alarm note has beneficial features.
Lois Perry, Heartland’s head on the UK/EU side, shot back against critics, as quoted in the DeSmog piece:
The fact that Professor Prins is associated with the GWPF, and that our event is held at 55 Tufton Street, should be seen as a badge of honour – it signifies a hub of independent thought brave enough to challenge a catastrophic group think…. Heartland is proud to be supported by private citizens who believe in intellectual freedom. [Net Zero] is proving economically ruinous for ordinary British families, damaging to our industrial base, and a direct threat to our national energy security.
Bravo!
The authors try to minimize the effect of Heartland’s push. But in another DeSmog article, How MAGA Lobbying is Undermining EU Climate Rules, author Sam Bright admits to the opposite.
European leaders are bending to the demands of U.S. climate science deniers. “The CSDDD is the greatest threat to America’s sovereignty since the fall of the Soviet Union,” the Heartland Institute, a pro-Trump U.S. think tank, tweeted on 31 March.
Bright describes the foe as follows:
The Heartland Institute is one of the world’s leading climate science denial groups. … Over recent months – along with a host of other Trump allies – the Heartland Institute has set its sights on a new target: the EU’s Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). The Heartland Institute and its anti-climate, anti-regulation peers are vocal opponents of the law – and launched an aggressive campaign to water it down, or even to see it scrapped entirely.
For the Heartland Institute and its supporters, DeSmog’s reporting serves as a ringing endorsement of their effectiveness. Even in the UK, the exaggerated arguments for the green scam are being revealed. I can conclude this article with the opening paragraph of my earlier post on their international initiative:
Great news! As reported by DeSmog, James Taylor and the Heartland Institute are off to a resounding start with their new offices in the UK/EU. What a return on investment for donors–and reason to attract more philanthropy to help consumers, taxpayers, and a greener environment.
“Even in the UK, the exaggerated arguments for the green scam are being revealed.”
They are and then again, they’re being ignored. To paraphrase Douglas Adams: “If you’ve done 6 impossible things this morning, why not round it off with breakfast at Milibands, the Restaurant with Two Kitchens.”
“UK can reach net zero by 2050, climate report finds”
Climate Change Committee says current targets could be met provided country takes ‘steps forward’ to achieve them
difficult decisions cannot be ducked, the Climate Change Committee (CCC) added in its annual progress report to parliament – including a pressing need to overhaul the way energy is taxed in order to make electricity much cheaper than gas.
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2025/jun/25/uk-can-reach-net-zero-by-2050-climate-report-finds
The green levies are on electricity. Most people use gas or oil for heating, cooking etc. Gas is barely affordable with this regime. Nonetheless, the idea is quite simply to take the levies added to electricity bills (23% of the bill) and put them onto gas instead to drive the uptake of EVs Heat Pumps etc etc.
You can see what’s coming if they dare to do that…
Electoral Calculus latest forecast for June, if a General Election were held now in the UK:
Conservative 22
Labour 136
Liberals 62
Reform 362
Green 4
SNP 38
Plaid 4
https://www.electoralcalculus.co.uk/prediction_home.html
This is seats in a 650 seat Parliament, summary of all polls. The Telegraph recently did a poll with IPSOS MORI which had the Conservatives down to 10 seats!
By comparison with the last election, in 2024 Labour got 35% of the vote and 412 seats. Reform got 15% and 5 seats. The Liberals got 13% of the vote and 72 seats!
You want to see real life tipping points, look at the UK electoral system. Go below a certain level and you are toast.
The more organizations continue displaying the Pride flags and trying to make everyone talk about ‘birthing people’ rather than ‘mothers’, and the more they continue to put lowering their emissions of CO2 at the top of their list of priorities, and the more they spend their management time and effort ‘decolonizing’ everything in sight, the higher Reform’s vote will go, and the higher and steeper the cliff the other parties will fall off.
There is no denying the direction of travel in the voting intentions of the electorate. However, barring a miracle of some sort, this government has another 4 years to run, or rather ruin everything.
Should Starmer lose the vote in the House next week (Disability cuts etc) then he will have problems, but I think the Labour Party is fully aware that – after a disastrous first year – it is a one term affair. They will fudge something to save face…

The fragile operation in Downing Street is in meltdown over the welfare bill rebellion. It’s not pretty…Downing Street sources report that it is an “angry building” this morning and point the finger squarely at chief of staff Morgan McSweeney and political director Claire Reynolds. Reynolds was appointed in late October last year to serve primarily as a liaison between No10, MPs, and the party in general. Co-conspirators can see how that has gone – Reynolds is blamed for poor and infrequent engagement work…When it comes to the policy operation McSweeney is taking the blame for repeatedly exposing Starmer before an inevitable U-turn. Seen a few of those already…There is a blame game currently ongoing in which the No10 staff are attacking the whips, who are in turn pointing the finger at the political office for their long knowledge and no action ahead of a potential rebellion. Guido hears the problem has been exacerbated by the fact that senior No10 staff attempted to resolve the growing backbench rebellion without informing Starmer first. As a result of their efforts the revolt only grew…A Downing Street source tells Guido: “We will have to climb down… total car crash.” Starmer is faced with another humiliation. Guido hears he is minded to rejig the No10 SpAd operation at the same time as he executes a reshuffle…https://order-order.com/2025/06/25/exc-downing-street-descends-into-blame-meltdown-over-welfare-rebellion/
Yep, make expensive ruinable electricity more attractive by artificially making Gas more expensive. Does nothing to make things more affordable. Just increases electricity pricing when the wind stops blowing at night under a winter blocking high.
Over 22m of the 28m homes in the UK are on the gas network. Gas is currently 4 times cheaper than electricity. Our electricity is more expensive even than Germany’s.
Only mad Ed could be stupid enough to p*ss off all those people..
“why not round it off with breakfast at Milibands, the Restaurant with Two Kitchens”
I thought Miliband had many more kitchens?
Some in his basement, 1 in his belfry, a couple in his septic tank and a kitchen in every toilet…
Only two kitchens but you might find it hard to find any bacon butties 😉
I’m surprised that DeSmog still has a NAZI salute in its logo.

The right kind of… third reichers
Scissor: Thanks, I’d never looked before. Also at your link is a post showing a FLIR video capture purporting to show pollution pouring from some chimneys. What a bunch of incompetent clowns. They think IR emissions from warm flue gases at night allow them to see pollution. Must have Greta’s extraordinary vision capability to be able to see invisible gases.
Net Zero Insanity has given Nigel Farage a defining issue to campaign on.
Net Zero will destroy the United Kingdom. It’s already about half-way there.
I’m sure Trump will be eager to help Nigel out wherever he can.
Nigel should get Trump to expound on his view of windmills. That ought to be interesting. Hint: Trump hates windmills.
The UK should hate windmills, too. Windmills are the problem, not the solution. People who think windmills are the solution, are the problem.
Trump will be happy to point this out to the UK population.
Trump missed pointing out the insanity of the Chagos deal when he could have vetoed it. And it isn’t “a good deal”. Maybe he’s losing his touch?
‘Entrepreneurs’ in the UK have found a new way to make money. They break in to remote wind farms and steal the copper cables.
12 wind farms in Essex, Cambridgeshire, North Yorkshire, Bedfordshire, Derbyshire, Humberside, Northamptonshire and Lincolnshire have been hit by cabling thieves over the past three months with up to 3 turbines being affected in each. (Grauniad 23 June)
The same theft of copper cables is hitting EV recharging stations. I couldn’t be happier.
My one visit to 55 Tufton Street was for the 10th anniversary party of the GWPF. The Taxpayers Alliance is also headquartered there. 🙂
