The sums of money being demanded at the UN climate conference in Azerbaijan are staggering.
The UN estimates that the world currently spend $3 trillion per year on climate and wants to dedicate $3.5 trillion to energy transition per year by 2050. This would skyrocket total annual global climate spending to $5 trillion.
A trillion here, a trillion there, and pretty soon you’re talking about real money.
They are pushing for something they call the “new collective quantified goal” at COP 29 in Baku. This mainly means a fortune in climate redistribution from the developed to the developing world.
Delegates are all too aware that this spending largess in no way squares with President-elect Trump’s “America first” agenda, but they are hoping to wait him out as they did once before.
One surprising positive development, is that in the process of demanding redistribution, developing nations have woken up to one of the key absurdities of the UN climate regime. Nations such as China and India are given a pass on emissions reductions and paying out funds. This, despite the fact that China is the world’s number one emitter of greenhouse gases and boasts the second largest economy, while India’s economy is all the way up at number five.
This is due to something the UN calls “common, but differentiated responsibilities,” which has been baked into the climate regime going all the way back to 1997’s Kyoto Protocol. China, meanwhile, holds $8.16 trillion of U.S. debt.
Wherever climate policy goes next, China should equally bear the pain and shoulder the responsibility they advocate for us.
President Obama shoveled $1 billion over to the UN’s Green Climate Fund shortly before President Trump began his first term. This included $500 million transferred just three days before inauguration day.
Will the Biden Administration try to top that?
The last time President Trump withdrew from the Paris Climate Agreement it took four years. Under the terms of the Agreement, this time he can do it in one.
Let’s hope President Trump resurrects climate and energy reality for the U.S. and the world before much more damage is done.
Thank you to all of CFACT’s friends and readers who have given so generously to make CFACT’s Mission Azerbaijan possible. CFACT is your eyes, ears and voice in the UN climate process. We are approaching our goal, but still have a short way to go. Please make the most generous gift you can right now. We cannot do it without you.

“Let’s hope President Trump . . . . “
Maybe, just maybe some of the RINOs in the Republican party will merely support President Trump
Having anything to do with this boondoggle is just feeding the WaBenzi, apparatchiks feeding off foreign aid. I cannot think of a less worthy charity.
The UN was always just a forum for posturing. All their finger wagging never stopped a single war.
It has for many years been corrupt. Recall the “Food for Oil” debacle in which the son of the Secretary General of the UN poured millions into his own pockets by manipulating the program. The UN hastily investigated itself, and found itself innocent.
The IPCC has been hopelessly corrupt for decades. The tortured wording of every sentence to make alarm clear while burying the facts in convoluted reasoning that defies rebuttal.
Now we are witnessing the depth of the corruption with UNRWA and UNIFIL both unmasked not just as collaborators with terrorist organizations, but supporters. Even UNICEF may become snarled in that mess.
But the Coup de Gras has just come with the ICC issuing arrest warrants for two Israeli politicians. Someone will no doubt point out that the ICC isn’t officialy part of the UN. Its not, but the same corruption that has metastasized within the UN grips the ICC. There will be those that will even take sides with the ICC against Israel, but they miss the point, and the point is this:
Countries are huffing and puffing and announcing that they will, or maybe they might, arrest those politicians if they come to their country. Its all bluster. None of them will ever be given the opportunity, and the empty threat will be laid bare. Those who support one side will be angered with the ICC for issuing useless warrants, and the other side will be angry at them for failing to enforce them. Both sides will see the truth, and the truth is this:
The UN all its industrious blood sucking departments, the ICC among them, just soak up tax payers money while accomplishing nothing except perhaps support for the largest hooker community outside of Las Vegas. That is become apparent in every corner of the UN that one cares to look at. Corruption everywhere and not a single mandate ever successfully met. We complain about waste in our own governments, consider the waste at the UN. It is 100%.
Its all unravelling before our eyes. True, it is hard to see, because its like a huge whale dying in slow motion. Its carcass will rot and fester for generations.
But we are watching the beginning of the end of the UN, and it will accelerate from here.
The waste is 100% but the impact is far more negative. The UN is sytemmatrically destroying the cornerstone of western productivity – low cost energy. Only the BRICS have the blessing to burn coal.
But, but, but, the goal of a One World Order!?!?!?!?!
Hopefully is is faster than you suggest.
Personally I do not wnat to surrender 50 years of money saved for retirement.
Personally I do not want anyone telling me which doctor I must see or which car I must drive or where I use live. It is, fortunately, too late for them to dictate who will be my wife/spouse/life partner and how many children I can sire/adapt/import into my home.
It is bad enough the overreach of the USA Executive and Legislative branches. So we now are facing genuflecting to a foreign government, yielding our sovernty, and all that goes with it?
Hopefully Trump will stop funding the UN, and due to economics, the UN will have to relocate to somewhere else. I mean if the USA starts charging RENT^ for the UN presence and stops paying dues, there will be a skeeedaddle like nothing seen since first Manassas.
I believe we need a presence, if only to know what is going on behind the scenes. Still, USA should vote with its wallet on what the UN does and does not do.
If the UN wants to promote climate “rescue”, they should set the example. They have this big building right in New York…they should use 100 solar and wind to power it. No using fossil fuel off the New York grid…if they can’t set the example by powering ONE building 100%, 24/7/365….then maybe they should relocate to someplace that will!
It looks like that math might be a little off
$3T/yr on climate
+$3.5T/E-Trans (for climate)
=$6.5T/yr
Is that the latest gender reassignment?
Humor – a difficult concept.

I understand your arithmetic.
However, one must consider another possibility.
How much of the $3T currently spent is on energy transition? Might just be bad phraseology.
In that scenariok $1.5T for computer games and research plut $1.5T for windfails and sunburns is $3T. Add $2T to the mix expressly for the ruination of the environment and you have $3.5T for E-Trans and a total of $5T for global skyrockets.
Trump can withdraw on Jan 20. He gave notice 7 or 8 years ago.
Nothing to do with climate. It’s about control and money. Solution: Print trillions of Monopoly money, put in millions of boxes and send to Baku.
The Paris Accord is an international treaty.
That treaty was never sent to Congress for ratification.
Therefore the USA is not bound by any of its provisions.
Best thing would be for DJT to submit the treaty to Congress with a strong recommendation to disapprove and not ratify and that will be Constitutionally the end of it.
Flop 29 should be asked one simple question. Since climate change is natural and not caused by man made carbon dioxide how will all this money help.
The Oligarchs will get richer, of course and the USAA and Western Europe will be forces into poverty, thus fully effection a While to Black supremacy flip.
If someone throws a billion into a “Save the Leprechauns” fund, destitute Leprechauns will be reported in the media everywhere, universities will start Leprechaun studies, social media will be full of sightings of destitute Leprechauns, Ireland will be flooded with tourists trying to see the homeland of the remaining few, which the tourism industry will encourage by slipping some coin and hearsay to reporters. “CoveringLeprechaunsNow.org” will disseminate the latest made up stories, sightings maps, and pub- reviewed papers for worldwide media.
Wish I had the billion dollars to kick start that.
It’s now Saturday evening in Baku. The whole caboodle is coming of the rails, cop29 turning into a train wreck. ‘As bad as Copenhagen’, ‘Turning into a farce’, Countries leaving without saying goodbye.
According to the BBC apparently: Developing countries have dismissed an offer of $250bn (£199bn) per year to help them tackle climate change – some want a figure closer to $500bn.
That may have opened some eyes, I hope.
There were earlier reports of those developing countries talking numbers in the $1T range, so it looks like “some compromising was accomplished.” getting it down to a demand of only $0.5T.
If you go to a street corner and start handing out $20 bills, what happens? A long line forms.
Copout 29 is exactly that.
Developing countries that are the most vulnerable to climate change are angry about a new text released at COP29 on Friday, which says developed countries must pay $250 billion a year until 2035 for climate action, an amount they say is too little.
It says developing countries need $5.1 trillion to $6.8 trillion until 2030 for nationally determined contributions to fight climate change and estimates adaptation finance needs of $215 billion to $387 billion annually until 2030.
https://mg.co.za/the-green-guardian/2024-11-22-250bn-a-year-for-climate-action-is-too-little-say-developing-countries/
These countries squander billions upon billions through corruption, fraud and mismanagement. Money sent to them will disappear into the pockets of the ruling elite and those keeping them in power. This is the biggest fraud scheme ever perpetrated and the fraudsters should be going to jail.
Ah, but it’s got electorlytes!
Just saw Sky news reporting that a deal had been reached at COP 29 and everyone clapped like seals – but we were not told what the actual deal was or whether the countries would pay judging from how much or rather little has been contributed in previous years. Will Biden try and slip though some billions before he leaves the White House like he has been doing with Ukraine?
The answer is simple the US needs to withdraw all funding for IPCC and drastically reduce spending on the UN.
