Are they possibly getting overtime pay and a housing allowance?
Reminds me of the classic film “The Firemen’s Ball” (1967), a satire aimed at communism in Czechoslovakia. In the movie a volunteer fire department holds it’s annual ball, but is bedevilled by a series of disasters which end with the fire station burning down. The director, Milos Forman, had to flee the country when it was invaded by the USSR in 1968 in response to the Prague Spring. He came to the US where he directed “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest”, “Amadeus”, and many other films.
So life imitates art. It’s the tragedy of irony.
Some people say, if you look under the petticoat of responsibility, you might find that some fires are started by firemen fascinated by them. If this is indeed the case, would they want a fire alarm at the station?
But, this is hearsay and I am not a hearsay fan, so I welcome people with data on arson to correct me. Geoff S

Freud took the opposite view: he thought that the fantasy of the fireman is peeing on the fire through this enormous hose…. Not so much starting the fire as putting it out. I read someplace that he once asked a Fire Chief whether he thought any of his men had nightime incontinence….

Hot Wheels called their battery powered vehicles “sizzlers”. I guess they were just ahead of their time.
Even if the fire station HAD a fire alarm, it still would have burned to the ground!
But you could have got there earlier to watch it burn.
I found it highly amusing and nationally embarrassing that an Australian commentator uses the term “Kamala-esque word salad” so casually, implying that it was a descriptor that would be self-evident to his viewers. But then, I have heard that Croatians refer to stupid mistakes as “doing a Biden.”
