The Democratic National Convention (DNC) published guidance that urges food vendors to serve plant-based options or “lower-emission” meat.
The DNC’s sustainability guidance for food vendors serving customers at the convention in Chicago suggests that they should “offer low-emission menu choices,” including plant-based options, and “prioritize” chicken where possible because of its lower carbon intensity. Environmental activists and institutions like the United Nations have consistently asserted that reforming agricultural practices and decreasing red meat consumption are key to bringing down emissions and fighting climate change. Beef is considered to be by far the most carbon-intensive type of meat to produce, followed by lamb and farmed crustaceans, according to The New York Times.
The guidance is not binding, though the DNC has also created a survey for vendors, hosts of ancillary events and other stakeholders to fill out with information about the steps they took to make their contributions to the convention more environmentally friendly.
“Offer low-emission menu choices, including plant-based and locally sourced options. If meat is offered, prioritize lower-emission meats such as chicken,” the guidance states. Additionally, the DNC’s suggestions for vendors also include that they “request ethically sourced/fair-trade certified seafood, coffee, tea, and chocolate” and “source high-emission items like coffee through local, small business partnerships.”
Some of the food vendors listed on the DNC’s registry include restaurants that ostensibly serve meat, including “Bazaar Meat” and the “Chicago Chop House.” The DNC’s guidance also urges vendors to use reusable or compostable utensils and encourages them to source goods from local suppliers, in part to keep emissions down.
Additionally, the DNC is recommending the purchase of “renewable energy certificates,” or credits, to “measure and mitigate the impact of the energy used to heat, cool, and power venues and hotels.”
The DNC did not respond immediately to a request for comment.

Anyone who believes that ‘food’ manufactured in a petrochemical plant is healthier than natural beef is severely mentally impaired. Visit a dog food factory some time, but I recommend you do it with an empty stomach.

Well at least not buying EVs is an intelligent decision. Stop wasting taxpayer money on crap that won’t get the jobs done when it comes to police, fire ambulances, public transport.
If they want to force the politicians trying to shove that crap down everyone’s throats to acquire EVs as “official” vehicles (to the extent government types get “company cars,” not that I’m in favor of that), good -let them suffer through the experience, might teach them how stupid it is.

There has been an insistence to call it the “Democratic” party for several years now. Funny, their website is “democrats.org”.
The Republicans drew fire for accepting support from Jerry Falwell and The Moral Majority. The Democrats are going even farther in appeasing The Green Blob, which makes Falwell seem tolerant and moderate.

I wrote about this extensively in ebook Gaia’s Limits long complicated food chapter. In terms of food to usable ‘meat protein’ caloric efficiency, most farmed fish and poultry are best at about 1:1–rapid growth, small wasted gut, not a lot of heavy bone. Pork is second best at a bit over 2:1. Beef is worst at about 4:1.
But the comparisons are deceptive for two reasons.

IPCC AR4 Chapter 2 Page 211 pdf 83 (paraphrased) says:
The GWP (Global Warming Potential) index is based on a pulse emission of 1 kg of some compound (Methane) relative to 1 kg of CO2.
The IPCC’s AR4 goes on to say that the GWP for methane is 72. Other IPCC assessment reports say the GWP for methane is anywhere from 50 to 86.
But the IPCC NEVER says how that translates into the effect on global temperature. The reason for that is simple, it’s so small as to be unmeasurable, way less than 0.1°C, perhaps a little as 0.04°C. If anyone thinks it’s any more that that, they should pipe up with their source and show their work.
The Climate Cupcakes know so much that isn’t true, I can’t imagine them having any awareness of grazing land that cannot be put to the plow. Heck, they even believe in ethanol mandates; and Iowa voters.

My mind goes to food trucks or street vendors selling hot dogs or soft pretzels.
If they mean mean successful area restaurants or even the hotel restaurants, why should they change their menus?
To lose clientele just to put on “a face”?
An interesting side note: The Greek word translated “hypocrisy” in the Bible comes from the mask used in Greek theater to show to the audience what the emotions the characters were supposed to be showing. In other words, pretending to be something they are not.

I assume they’re referring to vendors in the convention center and associated venues. I think these are usually contracted by the event organizers and so if they wish to continue to be used in the future they would bend to meet these demands.

I worked with someone who previously was involved with trouble shooting security systems.
He was called to check a electrical box that was part of the system of a small Chinese restaurant. One of his local favorites.

The puzzling thing about vegetarians is that they proclaim how much they detest meat, and then turn themselves inside out attempting to emulate it in the kitchen.
My transgender cousin was on a vegan diet for a while and wanted everything to look and taste like meat. He now has been surgically removed from his manhood and is back to eating meat.

I have no respect for the DNC or any other organization that thinks they should boss me around and tell me what I can do or what I can’t do. Whenever I consider joining a political party, I always check their sustainability recommendations first. That way, I know I won’t have to do any thinking for myself and I can live my preplanned life according to their agenda.
