Is there no limit that this moron will go to wreck this country?
Giant wind turbines taller than London’s Gherkin building are to be built across Britain’s countryside after Ed Miliband rejected calls to impose a height limit.
The Energy Secretary’s decision means turbines as high as 850ft can be built on hills and fields – far taller than the London skyscraper, which stands at 591ft.
Mr Miliband has lifted the previous government’s ban on all onshore wind in the English countryside, announcing plans to give himself the final decision-making power on applications in an attempt to hit net zero targets.
A spokesman for the Energy Department also made clear last week that there will be no height restrictions imposed on new turbines, opening the way for massive models being developed by Chinese and other manufacturers to be erected around the UK.
He said: “There are no national limits on turbine height in the UK.”
The spokesman added that “landscape and visual impacts must be measured and taken into account”.
It comes after the first approvals were granted for next-generation models in Scotland, where – along with Wales – the Tory ban on building never applied.
OnPath, formerly known as Banks Renewables, was granted permission for 10 machines up to 823ft tall at New Cumnock in East Ayrshire, despite opposition from locals and the campaign group Scotland Against Spin (SAS) which has called for height limits.

I wonder how far those blades will fling when flung. I like to think of each one landing on its neighbor like dominoes.
Thanks Scare, that would be beautiful and the best thing that could happen for the future of wind (Kill the beast).
MSM wouldn’t talk about it. 99.999% of the population are unaware of the financial waste, consistent bearing and gearbox failure, murder of endangered large raptors, and flicker-induced injury to humans that are caused by wind farms.
Anyone who speaks to these issues honestly and scientifically is blocked on media, social and otherwise, and labeled as a “climate denier”. Some governments are on the verge of blocking any discussions that speak honestly to the issues. It is difficult to say when, but criminal prosecution of honest, dissenting individuals is certain to follow. Local governments are already prosecuting and jailing senior citizens who picket abortion clinics, so the right to free speech is merely a vestigial and impotent echo from the past.
I believe the most effective route of opposition lies in focusing solely on the financials. Those can be made tangible and should bear the focus all energy invested.
Did you know that the steel used in the support mast is both highly stressed and also heat treated to make it stronger than plain steel?
Imagine if someone were to place a few dozen pallets against the base and light a fire. The heat could destroy the tempering of the steel and then what? Do they have to take down the unit or do they try to repair it.
Obviously, such an act is illegal and something that should NOT happen but what if the event did happen, how could you fix it?
Structures should always be designed to be redundant with regard to structural integrity, just being away from the public if it falls over doesn’t seem like a good plan for a product designed to provide reliable power to the grid.
Of course….. it will never provide reliable power to grid. If you don’t believe me, tell how much it will be generating on Tuesday next week at 2:00pm.
A few years ago there were windfarm proposals going for the Dutch eastern rural province of Drenthe. There were also rumours going about people stockpiling dynamite.
STORY TIP
Speaking of Britain, their railway engineers are looking at how to clean up their equipment. It gets a little technical, which keeps it interesting.

Thanks for that
In London at the moment, caught a train out into the country for lunch … fantastic, super quiet and as smooth as!
Tried to buy tickets to watch the riots but they sold out.
Mind you, it now appears that watching the riots is a criminal offence.
Oh, please provide a link to that! The UK keeps on striving to be the most ‘woke’, anti-common sense place on the planet!

I expect that will continue until government determines a way to monetize that snippet of reality television and deliver it directly to citizen’s homes. Pay per brick.
I was intrigued by the push for 3kVDC overhead, which the first application was the 1916 electrification of the Milwaukee Road in Montana. Modern power electronics made a big difference.
The old adage ‘the bigger they are, the harder they fall‘ springs to mind.
And because of climate change they tell us the weather will be MUCH more extreme why take a risk building something like this.
They lie.
It would be helpful were you to be more specific, cheers.
Exactly! Use their own lies against them!
Financial subsidies. Warren Buffet stated that explicitly years and years ago.
The country has gone mad. Whether its climate, energy, gender, race, the political and opinion forming class have totally lost touch both with reality and with the mass of the population.
Even the approach to rioting is to deny the underlying causes and blame Farage and Musk.
The mark of the beast must be visible to all. People should understand that they are just numbers and numbers have no rights.
Who are you?
I am Number 2.
Who is Number 1?
You are Number 6.

The Prisoner, starring Patrick McGoohan
I will not make any deals with you. I’ve resigned. I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.
I am not a number. I am a free man.
The Prisoner was a great series. The finale really sold it.
“ Whether climate, energy, gender, race…..”
First world problems….in the 3rd world parents still have to decide if they need their kids to hunt cobalt pebbles in the river to save the family from starvation.
And, in the burgeoning age of AI, reality has become ever more tenuous.
Is there no limit that this moron will go to wreck this country?
You need to ask?
They can build them as high as Ed wants, but the Grid can’t take the extra juice at present, so why bother?
We know that because of their intermittent output (and other issues) wind turbines don’t work as promised. Why, then, double or triple down for a structure and scheme that doesn’t work eve
For the birds, as they say. And, of course, as avian species go extinct, it will be solely due to AGW.
Good news for concrete sellers, though.
Must be a BIG and very DEEP hole. In economics digging the hole deeper only makes the problem bigger.
Maybe cfact can find endangered whales in the english countryside
Amazing ignorance
Take a bow
Haven’t you noticed that his recent output on several threads have had nothing to do with the topic being discussed?
He/she’s got problems.
He/she/it works very hard at being and remaining ignorant.
Am I to understand from the chart that wind turbines kill less than 1 bird per year in the US? Seems wrong. The chart date was 2017. Maybe it uses data for some earlier year when there were near zero turbines in the US?
If you’ve never seen a Feral or Domestic Cat leap from hiding under a bird feeder, … There must be a good YouTube of it somewhere. I totally believe housecats can defeat windmills in the avian “population control”.
Our cat does get a few small birds – mostly Juncos, Chickadees and Finches – but we feed the birds year round and have large populations. He also catches mice, moles and gofers which we consider to be a good thing. Our cat has not, however, managed to kill a single Hawk, Eagle, Owl, Crow, Vulture or bat. I heard a couple months ago that a neighbor lost a young pet cat to a Bald Eagle – very sad.
There was a news report out of Alaska where an elderly couple stopped their Class A motor home for gas. Their small dog was running around and got scooped up by a Bald Eagle. The wife was distraught with the husband was consoling her. The husband was observed fist-pumping when out of the wife’s sightline.
The chart is in millions so 234,000 protected species not common birds a year in 2017.
Myusername is constantly telling us wind turbines are going up right left and centre so the number of raptors is probably in the millions by now.
Oh yes I see: “(millions)”. My mistake, the chart says 234k birds killed by windmills in a chart published 2017. Since all parts of the chart will be estimates based on self reporting, all “cat”egories including turbines, there might be bias.
I don’t know the source’s position on wind energy. US F&WL would be easy enough to Google but one would have to know the specific author at the specific time to question or accuse.
“2017 Wind Technologies Market Report | Department of Energy
Key findings of the report include: … Wind energy contributed 6.3% of the nation’s electricity supply”
They’re not going to beat cats or windows, but the other categories are plausible goals for wind power to target.
So your point is that it’s OK to hunt a few hundred rhinos since billions of mammals are killed by feral cats?
Some time ago I recall watching a video showing alternative designs for wind machines which if my memory is accurate, were said to be smaller, more efficient, less of a danger to wild life and less intrusive.
Am I correct and why aren’t alternative designs being used?
I’m assuming that getting rid of all of them is not an option.
Because they don’t work. Like SMRs they are powerpoint presentations to part fools from their money. Or distract money from solutions that work.
That was funny. Who writes your gags?
“Because they don’t work.”
No wind turbine in existence “works” to provide reliable dispatchable power.
Doesn’t matter what the design is. THEY DON’T WORK. !!
Nuclear, on the other hand, regularly supplies over 90% of its rated power, except for scheduled refuelling
How much did you lose?
You can bet it doesn’t have a wind turbine in his granny’s back yard.
It would never “invest” anything of its own.. only someone else’s money.
OPM is a powerful motivator. Just ask Warren Buffet.
Those ‘wind machines’ Are only build to show the public who is in control. The public doesn’t want them but they build them anyway.
I want them and I’m part of the public – so speak for yourself. And stop trying so hard being the victim while letting yourself getting fucked over by fossil fuel billionaires
We’re all getting it from the “renewable” billionaires.
Show us the wind turbine you have in granny’s back yard.
Or do you just want them “somewhere else”… where they destroy the environment.
Did you know that fossil fuels provide for basically EVERY ASPECT of your pathetic little existence.
You could never exist without the massive benefits of fossil fuels.
You are the victim…. of your own ignorance.
Sadly they don’t melt cars like a certain skyscraper.
But they melt the influence of fossil fuels 😀
WRONG as always!
Fossil fuels will still be needed to cover the large amounts of time that wind isn’t blowing.
When the wind is blowing, the people will have to pay to dump the excess electricity.
If fossil fuel powered electricity are not available… there will be no electricity.
Did you know that EVERYTHING in your petty, juvenile existence is there BECAUSE OF FOSSIL FUELS.
You can NEVER exist without them.
Useless already knows that. Repetition will not change his non-existent mind.
I sometimes wonder – is that “mind” silicon?
“melt cars like a certain skyscraper”
Yet you still try to DENY that urban warming doesn’t exist ! D’Oh !
Where is the connection here? And did I ever write anything about urban warming?
I don’t know which skyscraper is being referenced. Is it the US WTC?
https://www.nbcnews.com/sciencemain/london-skyscraper-can-melt-cars-set-buildings-fire-8c11069092
Thanks MU, I did not hear about that in USA.
Some ignorant clown architect designed a building with concave sides and mirrored windows…. trying to be “woke” and “artistic” no doubt.
And some ignorant clown council allowed it to be built.. D’Oh !!
It was finished in 2016 and was featured in Engineering Catastrophes in 2018 (Death Ray Skyscraper)
So the skyscraper isn’t in an urban area. 😉
You really are a moronic little twit, aren’t you. !!
I think they need to go full Luddite!!
Interesting history: https://www.smithsonianmag.com/history/what-the-luddites-really-fought-against-264412/
A pity the Isles aren’t known as tornado country.
I thought concrete production was a major problem for AGW because of all the CO2 it creates. How much concrete will these monsters require to keep them upright?
Last time I looked, a typical pad size for a smallish tower was something like 30ft x 30ft x 30ft of reinforced concrete.
Which is never going to be dug up and removed when the windmills days are done.
So it becomes a permanent monument to green lunacy.
For onshore wind turbine tower, there are basically 5 common types of wind tower foundations: the shallow mat extension, the ribbed beam basement, the underneath piled foundation, the uplift anchors and the new type.
For each type, it can be both in round shape or in octagon shape. The diameter ranges from 15m to 22m.
Cool graphic. I can see Future 2043 is just original publication date plus 20 years, but 2043 feels oddly specific. Is there a plan to build the biggest one in 2043?
There is obviously some sort of a mental state defect involved with the climate change
cult and energy. When I was young it was hydro electric dams, coal and nuke plants which was a
huge benefit to society and powered our country upwards but these types towers are so wrong.
The Brits will sadly live to regret this IMO.
“The spokesman added that “landscape and visual impacts must be measured and taken into account”.”
Just who’ll be doing the measuring? Surely not anyone who’ll have to live next to such monstrosities. They should also measure the drop in real estate values.
Perhaps they will be destroyed by a common computer virus, a la H. G. Wells’ War of the Worlds.
Just as there is no limit on stupidity.
