Essay by Eric Worrall
According to the Bloomberg editorial team, leftists lost ground because they pandered to the right.
Climate Change Just Notched a Win in Europe
The European Union’s centrist leaders must learn their lessons and double down on achieving net zero.

The Editorial Board publishes the views of the editors across a range of national and global affairs. The European Union’s efforts to combat climate change have suffered an electoral blow. Its centrist leaders need to wake up before this setback clears the way for an environmental catastrophe.
Five years ago, voters in European Parliament elections demanded action to fight global warming. Now the “green wave” has subsided. In the latest elections, hard-right populist groups won more than a quarter of seats, up from about a fifth in the outgoing Parliament — in part by opposing the EU’s environmental policy and portraying its authors as elitist and out of touch. Support for Green candidates slid to 7% from 10%.
…
Mere appeasement won’t coax voters back into the mainstream: If anything, it will cause more radicalization — just as catering to xenophobia strengthens far-right parties rather than easing concerns about immigration. Centrists committed to a united and prosperous Europe can’t prevail by partnering with those dedicated to its fragmentation.
On climate, Europe and the world must do more, not less. …
How, then, to proceed? Where the far right takes power, as it might soon in the French parliament, it’ll have to answer for itself. But as long as centrist parties are in charge — and they still command a majority in the European Parliament — they must stay the course on climate. That means doing what’s necessary to reach net zero while being more forthright about the costs and distributing them as fairly as possible. Expand carbon pricing to cover more emissions, and use the revenue to ease tax burdens. Dedicate EU-level funds and unify capital markets to support new public and private investment. Develop a better safety net to protect the most vulnerable.

My first thought – someone needs to check the water supply in the Bloomberg building.
European voters didn’t reject the green left because Net Zero is working, they rejected Net Zero because European energy policy along with a lot of other policies is failing. Energy bills are stripping the wealth from the workers and lower middle class, factories are closing (Europeans call it “carbon leakage”), and the German economy in particular, once the powerhouse of Europe, is a faltering wreck.
Having said that, I really do think European leaders should double down on green policies.
Be done with hiding your Net Zero ambitions under the veil of sham political centrism. Let it all out, be free, close ALL the gas and coal plants, and give your remaining supporters a genuine taste of our green energy powered future. Run big publicity campaigns (while the electricity supply lasts), to ensure everyone everywhere knows these life changing policy settings are the fulfilment of the long march to European unity, and your utter determination to save the planet from climate change.
Your glorious act of political seppuku will be a far greater service to the planet than any of the economically illiterate policies you have supported over the years.

Clap really hard, and Tinkerbell will live! The Green Blob really thinks they can faith-heal the Energiewende.
LOL – I almost spilled my coffee 🙂
A must viewing by teachers, students, and policymakers is this 8-minute video: Mandatory Emissions (just in wealthy countries) To Achieve Net-Zero Is A Fool’s Game. https://youramericatv.com/2024/04/mandatory-emissions-to-achieve-net-zero-is-a-fools-game/
NET ZERO FOLLY
As most self respecting scientists know, man-made carbon dioxide has virtually no effect on the climate. It is a good gas essential to animals and plant life. Provided dirty emissions are cleaned up, we should be using our substantial store of fossil fuels while we develop a mix of alternatives including nuclear power to generate energy. There is no climate crisis, it has always changed and we have always adapted to it. In the Ordovician ice age atmospheric carbon dioxide levels were 4000 ppm and have been 15 times higher than now. There was no industrial revolution then to be the cause . The present quantity of man-made carbon dioxide is insignificant compared with water vapour or clouds which comprise a vast majority of green-house gases. Man has no control over the climate. Statistically we are overdue a period of cooling. The sun and our distance from it have by far the most effect. Most importantly, the Net-Zero (carbon dioxide) Policy will not do anything to change it. Countries like China, Russia and India are sensibly ignoring this and using their fossil fuels. They will be delighted at how the west is letting the power elites, mainstream media and government implement this Policy and the World Order Agenda 21, to needlessly impoverish us as well as causing great hardship and suffering.
Bloomberg is a very rich very committed greenie who should have stuck to Wall Street financial reporting via his ubiquitous data terminals.
His editorial board comprises not so rich greenies. That is how they keep their jobs. Facts and logic have nothing to do with it.
Why does he advise Europeans and not Americans?
I believe he ‘advises’ anyone that is dumb enough to listen. His efforts are not solely aimed at Europeans.
He just gave Brandon $20Million to further his cause.
$200 Trillion Is Needed to Stop Global Warming. That’s a Bargain.

Investors Call for Policy Unleashing $275 Trillion for Net Zero
https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2023-09-21/investors-call-for-policy-unleashing-275-trillion-for-net-zero
That’s about $US1 million per household in developed countries for the $200 trillion.
“Expand carbon pricing to cover more emissions, and use the revenue to ease tax burdens.”
What? I think the word “revenue” means the “carbon pricing” IS taxation, if anyone is actually keeping track here.
Oh, and what “centrist” thinks CO2 is a pollutant? And that cows are a climate risk? And that synthetic fertilizer should be restricted? Just because there is a concentration of politicians believing those misconceptions doesn’t mean they are in the “center” of reasonable opinion.
To the communist, a national socialist is ‘far right’ because liberty is unthinkable.
To a Green communist, someone who agrees to the utter destruction of the economy in ten years is a ‘far right extremist’. Someone who demands the impossible in five years is a ‘centrist’.
Apparently, the vermin that call themselves XR and Stop Oil Now are respectable left-wingers. Or maybe they’re hired to do their performances in order to gaslight us into thinking that the Uniparty is ‘centrist’.
I think “performances” is a good description of a lot that goes on to feed the “news.”
Once again:
“The Climate Crisis” is
“The Big Lie” of our time.
Michael has done really well promoting Chines industry. He’s worth more than $100 billion and is the 15th richest man in the world. The Bloomberg editorial board is doing their best to promote products that support the boss’s investment portfolio. There is nothing wrong with the water in the building.
It sounds like EGO to me then since I don’t think he is struggling with $15 Billion in his name thus shows he is slime as his irrational efforts hurts many who live paycheck to paycheck.
That may be, but another possibility is that he needs to believe that he deserves to have the wealth of 100,000 ordinary citizens because of his noble quest. Still ego I guess, but less self-aggrandizement than self-justification.
Any doubts that might creep in about the quest being a colossal blunder would need to be quickly squelched lest he should be forced to come to grips with the fact that his wealth derives from preying on his less fortunate compatriots.
“someone needs to check the water supply in the Bloomberg building.”
It is fine they are articulating the Boss’s beliefs. It just shows that you can be a genius at some things and become a billionaire, but be a complete dingbat about other things.
Dingbat? Get people to invest in the useless things you control because you got in on the ground floor and then keep the run to the cliff running by the influence of the media you control… isn’t this just a more drawn out form of ‘pump and dump’ used by securities traders?
Or like the way Soros-backed Obama bankrupted much of the coal industry… only for Soros to pick up the coal mines later super cheap. Then he has his other puppets arrange and maintain a war to make the price of coal skyrocket.
Where’s James Bond or Austin Powers when you need them to break up a international crime ring?
Groovy baby! I can just see Bloomberg demanding sharks with frickin’ laser beams on their heads.
Instead of expecting the people to pay for all the “unreliables” subsidies via taxes and high electricity costs….
People like Bloomberg should be funding the subsidies.
—
Oh wait.. the get their money FROM those subsidies. !
There is no difference between the “hard left” and the”hard right’. They are both fascist and totalitarian. The general swing to the right has a long way to go. Every political party is a leftist construct. The true right comprises individuals at every level through voter to representative. Political parties are the source of great evil.
As the power of the US Gov. grows year after year, so does it’s arrogance and corruption. We are now being ruled by two crime families.
The political spectrum.
Thought-provoking.
Have you noticed how it’s people with huge amounts of money who typically support Net Zero? They’re the ones who don’t have to worry if/when sh*t happens.
Very nice article. Seppuku is all well and good, except where is the honor involved? And then there is the collateral damage to everybody else.
The honor is coming clean with their ambitions, dropping the pretence. And the collateral damage is already happening – at least this would bring matters to a head, and allow a quick resolution.
I love the way he dismisses concern about foreigners who are refusing to integrate into their society and are instead creating little third world hell holes throughout Europe, as just xenophobia.
It’s fascinating how people who spend all their time surrounded by private security are so dismissive of the real problems of peoples who can’t afford their own private armies.
AGW is just another divide and conquer scheme perpetrated by the Marxists. ‘Immigration’, AGW, LGBTQ (did I leave any letters out?), law “reform”, etc. etc. are all designed to divide us and have nothing to do with enhancing our lifestyles.
“Climate Change Just Notched a Win in Europe”
In which universe does this Europe exist?
Climate change got a big 🖕
Don’t leftist voters know they are being lied to, and being taken advantage of, because of their bleeding hearts?
I’d be seriously angry if the policies championed by my party, with heavy, stinking loads of fake moral superiority, turned out to cause poverty and environmental degradation!
“European voters didn’t reject the green left because Net Zero is working, they rejected Net Zero because European energy policy along with a lot of other policies is failing.”
I saw an article in the Bah-stin Globe a few days ago where some group rationalized ever increasing electric rates in New England despite a substantial amount of “cheap, renewable, green energy”. I don’t have it in front of me. I see articles like that whenever I get the Globe. I think I’ll resubscribe to just the digital version so I can copy the items here. I think whoever wrote that is worried that there is just the beginning of a reaction to the green thing here in Wokeachusetts.
“How, then, to proceed? Where the far right takes power, as it might soon in the French parliament, it’ll have to answer for itself”.
Elitest pain here is palpable and helpless. It’s not hard to discern that the players have been in denial and “Don’t Look Up”.
The new century began two years into an 18+ years “Dreaded Pause” in global warming and the masterful take down of Mann’s woefully wroughted hockey stick temperature chart by Steve McIntyre. Before the woke elites could catch their breath, an insider released 100s of 1000s of ‘Climategate’ emails from U of East Anglia- the global center of gravity of climate science. The email network revealed the dirty tricks being used to cook-up climate and the counseling of destroying culpable emails and inconvenient data, etc.
Worse, it happened just on the eve of the COP meeting in Copenhagen for which there were high hopes with Obama attending. The conference ended in “disarray” (wiki). The elephant in the room- Climategate! It proved to be the defacto real end of the COP bunfests although they churn them out in despair year after year. Then the 1990 infamous IPCC 25yr T°C anomaly forecast, which, compared to empiracle measurements proved to be 300% too hot.
Elites had better “Look Up” if they have any skin in this negatively loaded crapshoot.
To me, such an article smacks of desperation as the Greens in general realize that all their alarmism, which led to a certain degree of support after the previous EU and US elections, has been evaporating quickly. People have become disillusioned with the new taxes, rising prices and unreliable products and energy sources that were supposed to provide solutions to a climate crisis that has proved to be more mythological than realistic. As well, when they see the major emitters like China and India, among others, rejecting any pressure to abandon fossil fuels which still provide 81% of global energy, they have decided to take a stand and reject any further climate initiatives that are failing to deliver. So Bloomberg and the rest of the environmental activists need to adopt a new and more practical sales pitch if they want to retain at least a shred of credibility.
Bloomberg is a pitiful excuse for a news agency, they don’t know a damn thing and are incapable of doing anything except repeating the hard leftist mantra. They can go to hell. What a relief that the average guy is finally realizing what a bunch of liars and cheats the CAGW cult is. Slowly but surely we are winning and they are losing.
Notice, as usual, what is missing. If Europe does as requested, how much effect will it have on
Something no-one will ever even consider when advocating these huge spends and extreme measures.
It’s just a little thing, but it gripes me every time:
“Support for Green candidates slid to 7% from 10%
Much easier to read as “from 10% to 7%”
If you step back for an overall look, just what authority does Bloomberg possess to go around making up rules that it says we must obey?
Bloomberg is not a scientific body. It can only look at the science and cherry pick articles it likes, but not for their quality of science about which it knows little. Bloomberg is not a body elected by the people, or even demanded by most people. Bloomberg has no legislated powers to enforce its ideas, it is a volunteer group to be treated as such. Bloomberg is a group with money to burn, which is possibly its only attribute of value.
Recommendation: Take no notuce of Bloomberg. You have no obligation to be involved and neither do they.
