UK Flood 1950

EA Can’t Even Get Simple Facts Right

From NOT A LOT OF PEOPLE KNOW THAT

By Paul Homewood

Every year the Environment Agency fill their flood reports with climate change hype, like this one:

Obviously we never used to have weather warnings, gales, rain and snow!

And we know that the “record winds” claim is utterly fraudulent, based as it is on a weather station on The Needles which only opened in 1996. The whole idea that Storm Eunice was more powerful than a number of other storms in the 1980s and 90s; yet that is what the EA wish people to believe.

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/flood-and-coastal-risk-management-national-report/flood-and-coastal-erosion-risk-management-report-1-april-2021-to-31-march-2022

But in their desperate attempt to blame everything on climate change, they cannot even get their facts right:

https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/flood-and-coastal-risk-management-national-report/flood-and-coastal-erosion-risk-management-report-1-april-2019-to-31-march-2020

In fact February was only the 15th wettest calendar month in England.

But what have facts got to do with it?

No CC but strong weather:

New storm cuts Norway in two

Northern- and Southern Norway were cut off from each other Wednesday evening, after yet another extreme storm slammed into the central portions of the country. The E6 highway that runs from the border to Sweden in the south to the border to Russia in the far north was closed over the mountains of Saltfjellet in Nordland, and all airline flights, trains and ferries were halted.

The East and West parts of the great left coast State of Washington are “cut off from each other” several times each winter.
Until the State carves a 20-mile-long tunnel under the Cascade Mtns., such is life.

Yup and several of the Cascade Mt. Passes are normally closed in November to March-April every year due to snow and avalanche dangers.

This year [2021/22] saw yet more extreme, record-breaking alarmism. Even a light breeze gets a name, now.

“EA Can’t Even Get Simple Facts Right”

The EA collectively believes…

“Corporate report
Environment Agency: reaching net zero”
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/environment-agency-reaching-net-zero

In fact, any institution, agency or other affiliated body firmly believes in [money] net zero.

“Expectant mothers have been left “anxious and uncertain” after several NHS Trusts in England imposed a temporary ban on a popular form of pain relief over concerns about midwife safety. The use of gas and air – half nitrous oxide, better known as laughing gas, and half oxygen – during labour is one of the most popular pain relief options for women giving birth.

One first time mother-to-be said a lack of warning around the decision to suspend offering it has left her with “less than a week to completely re-evaluate my birth”. There are no harmful side effects of using gas and air (known as Entonox) for a mother or baby, however safety concerns have been raised about the overexposure for midwives and hospital staff.”
https://www.itv.com/news/2023-02-28/expectant-mothers-left-anxious-and-uncertain-after-gas-and-air-use-suspended

Entonox in the air – it is inhaled from a mask… – has never been a problem before the net zero mania. And now it is.

Nothing, save for wind turbines and solar farms, is sacred or beyond insane ‘climate’ action. Giving birth, receiving anaesthetics, is causing a climate catastrophe in the NHS.

But that’s nothing compared to its use of plastics, from drips to sterile packaging, disposable syringes etc etc etc

Maybe that will be next….

extreme indicates something that is a long way from the average.
stationary air is therefore obviously an extreme form of air movement , being at the opposite end of a bell curve from a hurricane.
One has to be careful around still air . it makes all sorts of weird things happen.

Yes, indeed!

Extreme Still Air (ESA) causes a wind/breeze deficit (WBD) – which increases surface temperatures.
A new study by some scientists suggests that ESA may be caused by Climate Change, and is also aiding in the disruption of the Polar Vortex – according to a new study, scientists say.

Still air is dangerous to net-zero advocates, because their wind turbines stop turning, and they may need to use fossil fuels for electric power.

Still air in winter also results in thermal inversions, where pollution from a city is trapped under a layer of warmer air above, and tends to accumulate in the city. In a mountainous area, an inversion can result in clear skies over the summits, but the valleys encased in fog and haze. If a storm approaches, the wind from the storm tends to mix the layers of air, break the inversion and disperse the pollution.

During the days of clipper ships, a prolonged period of calm winds could lead sailors to throw horses overboard so the ship sails higher in the water–this was VERY dangerous for the horses!

On the bright side, cold weather doesn’t feel as cold on a calm day as on a windy day.

Yes, and instead of getting one story about how 2023 was the “hottest year evah!”, we get two dozen stories saying the very same thing.

There is an organized effort to encourage this kind of pile-on, scaremongering, climate alarmist “journalism”. Leftwing billionaires are paying good money to the news media to write about this climate change narrative and promote it.

Leftwing billionaires are trying to steal our freedoms with their money. And they are pretty effective at it.

Such are the joys of the UK and as I mentioned dozens of times round here, the UK is a land of 2 very distinct parts = East and West

England esp split very neatly down the middle by the Pennines range of hill, fells, moors and mini-mountains running North/South
The West gets a double whammy of wetness, facing the Atlantic and the prevailing wind, thus the Pennines suck ‘most every drop of water out that airflow and The West Is Wet.
Cool also- but NOT Cold

Meanwhile the East gets a double whammy of Hot & Dry as the prevailing winds ‘go over the top’ and cause Foehn Effect Heating on the Eastern side

And THAT is exactly what happened with that Feb 2020 report/claim.
Yes it rained more than usual in the West but the East was boring to normal

In fact one of my Wundergounds (the one near Derby) recorded 70mm of rain in Feb 2020 and completely none for the following 3 months.

True anecdote from the North East corner of Cumbria, ½ mile north of Hadrian’s Wall and 6 miles due west of the very top of the mountain range and the border with Northumberland.
One day in early September it was immensely grey, miserable and raining in Cumbria and I wanted to harvest my crop of spring barley.
Completely No Chance
So to relieve my depression, I went for a ride around the block in the farm pickup.
I found myself in Northumberland.
At a place near Chollerford
Attached is a little map showing where I started from, where I got to and roughly where the hills are.
23 miles from home

In the fields around Chollerford were combine harvesters working, but you could hardly see them.
They were inside such huuuuge clouds of dust
God how I wished that was me – yet less than 25 miles away my harvesting was totally rained off.
To add ever greater insult, the combines had (straw) balers following them around the field.
For Cumbria this was unheard of, even when the barley was dry enough to harvest, you needed at least 2 days of dry weather for the straw to be fit to bale, especially into ‘Big Bales’ as they tend to get hot, sweaty and wasted unless the stuff inside them is completely Bone Dry

And that is a significant reason why I now live where I do on the Cambridge Fen = (simultaneously) driest part of England but also the most productive and fertile.

I am not alone, I have trodden a path that is now 10,000+ years old.
(It’s an instinct thing for peasants/farmers – we don’t even know we’re doing)

This is true of Northern England, but something’s missing. The Pennines run form the North Midlands to Northumberland and the range begins a good 150 miles north of the Watford Gap where civilisation ends…

We must hold, with determination and clarity, that it is Global Warming that causes climate change. (I’ve met a couple of educated who when asked what causes climate change, replied Um Er ? Worrying). That 1.4degsC a century since the 17 hundreds is benign. That whether natural or Asian coal , the steady increase in atmospheric CO2 WIL NOT BE CHECKED. So relax and enjoy the benefits. Oh, and Net Zero is an ignorant stupid fantasy.

Referring to data for England, the UKEA state:

February 2020 was the wettest February on record.

Paul Homewood says:

In fact February was only the 15th wettest calendar month in England.

The UKEA is right, Paul Homewood is wrong.

According to the UK Met Office, February 2020 was the wettest February on record in England and by some distance (160.9mm versus previous wettest, 131.9mm in 1923).

If you’re going to title your article “EA Can’t Even Get Simple Facts Right”, then it’s a particularly bad look when it’s you who’s getting it wrong!

If all this is actually happening, shouldn’t it have had an adverse effect on the population which should have shown at least a small decline. In addition, there should be evidence of shorter life expectancies and possibly higher infant mortality rates as a result of lower agricultural production leading to food shortages. The reality is that the opposite of all this is occurring, so no one should start worrying except the climate alarmists whose credibility gets further eroded with every proclamation they make.
