Kerry Returns from China without a Climate Deal, or Even a Meeting with Xi

As the world sizzles, China says it will deal with climate its own way

By Christian ShepherdEmily Rauhala and Chris Mooney

As parts of the Northern Hemisphere reach heat close to the limits of human survival, Chinese leader Xi Jinping declared in remarks reported Wednesday that Beijing alone will decide how — and how quickly — it addresses climate change.

Xi’s comments to top Communist Party officials, which came as U.S. climate envoy John F. Kerry wrapped up three days of talks with his Chinese counterpart, laid bare the challenge the world faces in curbing planet-warming pollution that is fueling heat waves across three continents. China has surpassed the United States as the world’s largest greenhouse gas emitter, and approved the construction of dozens of coal plants last year even as it added more renewable power.

China would pursue its commitments “unswervingly,” but the pace of such efforts “should and must be” determined without outside interference, Xi said late Tuesday. Xi’s approach marked a break from the 2015 Paris climate accord, where a Chinese-U.S. agreement paved the way for the international goal of keeping global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 Fahrenheit) above preindustrial levels.

Speaking to reporters in a phone call Wednesday, Kerry described his talks with Chinese officials as “very cordial, very direct, and, I think, very productive,” but he acknowledged that they did not produce a significant breakthrough. The meetings marked the first time in a year that the two sides had met.

What can I say? I’ve worked in Taiwan, so I know a bit about Chinese culture. What Kerry received was as close as a Chinese diplomat will come to telling you to “get lost” while remaining civil.

From Breitbart;

Xi Jinping Holds Climate Summit as John Kerry Visits China – Without Meeting with Him

JOHN HAYWARD

19 Jul 202336

Chinese dictator Xi Jinping humiliated “climate envoy” John Kerry this week by holding a two-day “national conference on ecological and environmental protection” in Beijing without his American guest.

Xi fairly explicitly told Kerry to get lost in his remarks at the conference, declaring that China — the world’s worst polluter by a very wide margin — would set its own environmental “goals” and chart its own “path” to reaching them. Kerry limped out of Beijing empty-handed, mumbling about the “long and detailed meetings” he attended and “frank conversations” he held, but with no climate agreement in hand.

Xi’s two-day ecological conference was essentially a very long restatement of the evasion China has used on the climate change movement with great success thus far, vaguely promising that the heavily industrialized authoritarian regime will reduce its carbon emissions thirty years from now but, for the time being, it will burn as much coal as it pleases and no input from Western environmentalists is welcome.

“China’s commitments are unswerving, but the path towards the goals as well as the manner, pace and intensity of efforts to achieve them should and must be determined by the country itself, rather than swayed by others,” Xi declared at the conference.

I’m guessing China loves these excruciating diplomatic failures. China gets to play Middle Kingdom, with Kerry or Yellen or whoever playing the role of the unworthy supplicant begging for attention at the court of the Emperor, and in doing so heaps endless humiliation on the USA. Yet the feckless Biden Administration keeps falling for it, over and over.

By all appearances, Lurch certainly has had a humiliating week, (if he were a normal human being capable of humiliation).

As it is, my assessment is that he is sincere in his dissembling. Both sides benefit from the theater.

Of course, as mentioned in the article, it’s obvious that Xi gets to play the role of emperor demanding kowtowing and playing to his domestic audience.

Less obvious is the Obama III administration’s interests here.

Vast sums of money are being wasted on a Bastiat Broken Windows theory of economic development, namely that pouring mad money into a non-productive activity (deploying ruinable energy) will stimulate the economy.

Even Lurch—hell, even cadaver Joe—knows that the claimed purpose of controlling the weather is hopeless. Somebody has to be blamed for that inevitable failure.

The answer is intransigent China. But, just saying that China is to blame is not as effective as acting out the farce of sending a clown parade led by Lurch, hat in hand to be humiliated by the Chinese bogeyman.

After going through the motions of trying everything we could possibly do to get China’s cooperation, but being ruthlessly rebuffed at every turn, the administration can pivot to less impossible goals. The cronies are all snout in the trough and that won’t change (because government spending is forever). But now they don’t have to show any results. Win-win for them. Only we lose.

“(if he were a normal human being capable of humiliation).”

Lurch is not capable of humiliation. He thinks he is the smartest guy in the room. And nothing or nobody is going to change his mind.

And Joe Biden is just the same.

Two know-nothings that think they know everything.

Sleepy Joe & Co may well “deserve it”, but I fail to see how they can be held to account; as Newton found out, shit naturally gravitates to ground level; China is doing what the USSR tried to do for 50 years and failed for the most part ; export their version of totalitarian control. The UK, like elsewhere has fallen hook line and sinker for Chinese bribes; bribes they can afford by acquiring western manufacturing and shovelling foreign currency into their central bank by exporting all the “stuff’ that western societies buy ( my my who said that recently?), suborning western Universities, stealing western intellectual property in truly massive quantities and inserting not so sleepy students such that western Universities are as deep into the equivalent Sino Belt and Roads as parts of Africa.

US citizens at economic ground zero will bear the brunt of the shit that flows from the tyranny of Bidenomics/Merkelonomics/Bliaronomics?various Ozanomics; same in the UK and elsewhere; this is not going to end well but at least the US has the legacy of “militia capability”. We don’t in the UK; recent events such as the Woke cancellation of bank accounts – a shade of the Woke AWG/CC/Net Zero blx – indicate to me “we” are a long way further down the Road to Hell than previously imagined. Just like Sleepy Joe, UK politicos will not face the Inquisition they are inflicting on the electorate….unless……?

The Totalitarian World is at war with the Western Democracies.

The leaders of the Western Democracies are oblivious to the creeping danger, or they profit from it in one way or another, and so ignore it at *our* peril. The leaders of the Totailtarian World are very happy about this situation.

The leaders of the Western Democracies are radical Leftists. That’s the problem. For one reason or another, they will only make this problem worse, not better.

The United States has the ability to vote out the radical Leftists in its midst (assuming no cheating). Sadly, that does not appear to be the case with the other Western Democracies as all their political parties are pretty much radical leftists. There are no common-sense conservative parties to vote for. No Gamechanger there.

The only Gamechanger is Trump.

We need the game changed.

I’ll be surprised if Joe is the Democrat candidate in 2024. If he’s smart, he should retire now for health reasons and maybe the Republicans won’t have him prosecuted for bribery.

Next up as a witness, is Hunter Biden’s estranged business partner, who knows all the details.

And did you know that John Kerry’s stepson was also associated with Hunter Biden up until recently when he decided to pull out of the relationship.

It looks like Hunter and Joe were doing all sorts of illegal deals with foreign nationals, and I’m wondering if ole John’s stepson might not have some invovlement in that.

The fake deal with Obama in 2015 was that China would consider cuts in 2030.

Nothing has changed. They are still considering cuts……and still doing what’s best for China like they did 8 years ago and will likely still be doing 7 years from now……when the planet is still enjoying a climate optimum for life.

The wild card is to see when the developed countries start acknowledging the big picture truths about CO2 science and take a smarter path……similar to the Chinese on CO2 emissions.

On real pollution, they are failing horribly and the West is shining.
But CO2 is a beneficial gas by every authentic scientific definition.

Politics and crony capitalism and media sensationalism hijacked climate science for their agendas.

When will honest, objective scientists emerge to fight and take back control.
Its embarrassing to see China kicking our arses in applying legit climate science and rational energy policies.

That’s not really a fake deal. It’s a stupid deal. But it was clear from the beginning that the Chicoms were not going to even consider reducing CO2 output until 2030, and when 2030 rolls around, they will reconsider their position. That’s what the agreement said, and that’s what they are doing.

Obama made this deal just because he needed a deal. He didn’t care about the details. He didn’t care that it placed no restrictions on the Chicoms.

As parts of the Northern Hemisphere reach heat close to the limits of human survival,

The linked WP article makes the claim that the Persian Gulf International Airport recorded a heat index of 158F, almost reaching the limits of human survival.

Most younger people would have seen “158F” and panicked without reading the rest of the article which states the actual temperature was less than 100F – not unusual in that part of the world.

If the climageddon people like Kerry were genuine believers in their faith, they would immediately advocate new power plant construction in US, where the regulations are much stronger. They would advocate new factories and mining.

Instead, they advocate sending more and more manufacturing to China, when at this point, they should realize that their call for regulations and restrictions are subject to ridicule.

They don’t really believe this stuff. They know far more CO2 will be produced because of this arrangement with China. They probably know they’re destroying the power grid in the US. And that tomorrow’s electric cars will sit in driveways (away from anything flammable) uncharged.

It’s possible the career antisemite Kerry is just too dumb to figure most of this out, but others can.
