Climate Extremists Vandalise Historic Roman Monument

Essay by Eric Worrall

Another pathetic green attack on Western heritage, this time a fountain in Rome which was built in the late 1600s.

Last generation, in the fountain of the Four Rivers in Piazza Navona thrown charcoal: ‘Future as black as water’

by Ester Palma

Charcoal in the Fountain of the Four Rivers in Piazza NavonaLast generation returns to attack the Roman artistic heritage. At 15 four activists linked to the ‘Let’s not pay for the fossil’ campaign, promoted by the assault environmental group. After the blockades of cars on the Gra and the naked and chained demonstration in via del Tritone, the activists poured vegetable charcoal diluted in the water of the precious baroque work designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, to ‘to raise the alarm on the black future that awaits humanity and that is already manifesting itself with increasingly frequent droughts and floods’. In the evening, the Minister of Culture Gennaro Sangiuliano went to Piazza Navona: ‘I carried out an inspection to check the conditions of the fountain of the Four Rivers, today targeted by an action of the eco-vandals‘.

This story reminds me of a horrible story I once heard, about a western tourist who was raped in New Guinea. The attackers cut off one of her fingers, so whenever she looked at her hand, she would remember the snarling faces of her attackers, their cruelty and mockery of her distress and pain.

Those eco-vandals wanted to permanently mark a piece of our a precious heritage, just as the rapists wanted to mark the body of that poor woman.

To be fair the eco-vandals didn’t try to hurt anyone, but this need to make a mark, to leave a permanent scar, seems disturbingly similar.

I doubt these extreme acts of vandalism are raising sympathy for climate action.

“The Climate Crisis Cult (C.C.C.) strikes again.

I assume that is pronounced with a hard “C” sound?

Phonetically, that cult would be written as KKK.

The BLM founders were, in their own words, “trained Marxists”. Doesn’t mean they acquired any knowledge, at least not meaningful and useful knowledge.

The danger here is normalizing these asocial outbursts. Three weeks ago as I passed by some deranged person spray painted an anti-fossil fuel screed across a major bank’s entrance on Manhattan. The response was “mild.” If we don’t treat terrorism as more than vandalism we deserve our fate.

The “mild” response is due unquestionably to the numerous “fifth columnists” that have infiltrated all major institutions across the western world.

What vegetables were sacrificed in this activity?

They were likely thinking tree charcoal and their poorly educated minds never learned about the concept of ‘recently vegetative’ charcoal as different than buried for millions of years coal.

Funny how we climate deniers, we evil, scheming, devious spawn of evil plotting to destroy the planet with fossil fuels never engage in these sociopathic tactics. It’s almost as if there’s a statistically significant correlation between climate alarmism / Leftism and mental illness.

So what? They still should do hard time in a bad place.

BTW, blocking streets does hurt people. If an emergency vehicle were trying to get through, they would have blood on their hands. Also, they could be charged with false imprisonment.

They never start with hurting people. That comes after several years of being ignored while doing the types of stunts they are doing now.

They’re already talking about escalating to actual terrorist acts (i.e. blowing up pipelines). It’s not too big a step from there to not caring about “collateral damage”. What’s the next step from that?

“To be fair the eco-vandals didn’t try to hurt anyone ….”

To be fair, the only way the eco-vandals can achieve their end goal is to hurt a hell of a lot of anyones.

“To be fair”, would be accepting and playing by their (eco-vandals) ethics when dealing specifically with them; Recognizing them as the peril that they are, and stopping them in any manner available, so they can’t continue with their ‘(make-believe/assumed) ends justify the means’ campaign.

May 7, 2023 7:56 pm

We only need to penalize these vandals for what they are and they will stop. But there are no consequences. And it will continue. Maybe cut a finger off like the rapist did.

If it weren’t for bad times there would be no good times at all and we can thank the environmentalists for that.

Did no one among the crowds that always inhabit Piazza Navona wade in and drag those idiots out?

I can’t imagine Italians stood by passively and just watched.

And where were the Carabinieri?

Reply to  Pat Frank
May 7, 2023 9:31 pm

So I just watched the video. The Polizia came, dragged the eco-nutters out, and arrested the lot.

Those people have been misled into delusional misery. The woman dragged out, sitting by Bernini’s fountain, and carrying on about the horrors we face from 0.02 % added CO₂ is proof of induced immiseration.

When the IPCC is finally dismembered, I hope the heartless liars who run it are forced to account for their cruelty in jail.

The honcho-est among them should be subjected to the extreme punishment of sharing a cell with Tedros Ghebreyesus, the utter crud who’s head of the WHO and paid lapdog of Xi Jinping.

The unadjusted GISS temperature record shows Rome is not much warmer than in 1950 (UHI effect?) of course that record has been expunged to conform with the models, which is the same for every temperature record I have had occasion to look at on that site.
Generally on Rome and climate change “in the early Empire [Augustus] mean July temperatures were at least 1 °C above those of the mid-20th-century” (Wiki).

Rome is almost certainly significantly COOLER than it was at the height of the Roman Empire !

Could the distinct lack of UHI effect in Rome be due to the facy that it’s not a high-rise city? In other words, there’s no tall blocks of steel and concrete to retain the day’s heat.

They are spoilt selfish greedy hypocritical mendacious cheating buck-passing children

And while they eat and we continue to feed them sugar, nothing will ever change.

The 1st Significant Problem on this Earth is that: There’s now nothing else to eat.
The 2nd Significant Problem is that The Children imagine that eating more sugar will fix the weather (and most other things)
The 3rd Significant Problem is that everybody thinks/imagines that, when it comes to sugar. more is better.

everything is now wrong

Time to take off the gloves and bring the whips.

Erasing your cultural heritage is a standard practice of any religion. The aim is to erase your past, your identity, in order to coerce you to accept the only true religion. The Taliban blow up the Buddhas and claim that there was nothing possible other than their version of islam.

An attempt to nullify your identity warrants an armed response.

May 8, 2023 4:28 am

Hmm.

I am not pleased to see these sorts of protests. They are more self-indulgent than the perpetrators try to claim.

But recreational sh*t-disturbers performing for the approval of their friends probably should not be compared to the conduct of rapists. Rape is about the exercise of power. It is violent and fueled by hatred. It is incomparably worse than badly behaved children making themselves famous.

The difference is scale, not kind. The protestor is exercising power over the populace, in a small way. The rapists were exercising power over an individual, in a more damaging and personal way. Do not think that the protestor will stop at small disruptions, as the result will not satisfy the protestor’s fantasy. Absent significant punishment, the protests will escalate ad infinitum.

Pathetic attempt to get attention and increase their self-esteem. So yes, the same motivation of a mass shooter with a manifesto. And a 2-year-old that wants something.

NO!!!

They have hurt me!

Like when the taliban destroyed the Bamian Buddha statues!

They are hurting anyone and everyone who respects his ultural heritage.

May 8, 2023 7:10 am

Of course, they were probably not arrested. They should sentenced to clean the entire fountain with toothbrushes.

Such cultural vandalism is on a par with what ISIS did in Iraq.

I have attached an image of a table showing current energy sources per country measured in TWh. To differentiate I have coloured all coal, oil and gas as black, indicating carbon, nuclear as red, hydro as blue and all renewables as green. There are no surprises that China is a massive energy producer, and good luck to them. One can view this in parallel with the Graphic to the right of this page showing Global Warming in the scale of humans. The question is, do any eco zealots understand data?

What would these people do if they saved the environment? All they know is how to destroy something.

Martin Brumby
May 8, 2023 8:49 am

This isn’t an absolutely new phenomenon.
In 356 B.C., Herostratos burned down the Temple of Artemis in Ephesus, in order to win “immortal fame”. So, he unfortunately had some success with that.

The Temple was one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

These pathetic, narcistic, virtue signalling creeps in Rome justify their acts with spouting nonsensical climate-terror fairy tales. I doubt that any of them could tell you the current CO2 concentration in the air, nor the concentration in their smelly breath.

In fairness, the only Western Leader (except Viktor Orbán) who has even attempted to curb this nonsense is the (otherwise despicable) Emmanuel Macron, who at least had the cojones to firmly state at the beginning of the BLM idiot-fest, that no statue was going to be toppled, no street renamed. At least that was a decent line to draw.

Here in the UK, any moron can do what he likes and rely on police support.
A very different story, however, when people peacefully gathered together to protest Lockdowns and “vaccine” mandates!

Herostratos was followed in his anti-Artemis quest by the apostle Paul, who decried the cult of Artemis in the Acts of the Apostles as worship of a pagan goddess. Much later, NASA has named its latest rocket after her. Of course, Saint Paul never burned down temples, but tried to convert them into churches.

Of course, the idiots who poured charcoal into the famous fountain are deliberately polluting otherwise pure water–and they pretend to be saving the environment? That makes about as much sense as throwing tomato soup at a painting of flowers!

In this case, the punishment should fit the crime. The perpetrators should be made to drink the charcoal-tainted water from the fountain.
