Live at 1 PM Eastern Time: Fake and Bake – Earth Day Edition

The Heartland Institute

Join us for episode 60 of Climate Change Roundtable, titled “Fake and Bake – Earth Day Edition.” This week’s episode features a smackdown of how the media covers climate and weather stories – badly. For example, one of the stories this week made a claim about a heat wave in Great Britain, with temperatures forecast to 20°C which is 68°F – room temperature!

Host Anthony Watts and expert weekly panelists H. Sterling Burnett and Linnea Lueken will show how media simply ignores basic facts and science when covering climate change.

Also, we’ll cover Earth Day, this Saturday on 4/22, and some of the craziness surrounding it.

Set a reminder and tune in to join the conversation as we confront the media and skewer the coverage on Climate Change Roundtable, live every Friday at 12pm CT/1PM ET. Join the live chat and share your thoughts with Anthony, Sterling, Linnea, and fellow viewers.

Re: Earth Day 2023

Here in the UK, we face a long weekend of the great unwashed demonstrating outside Parliament, by Extinction Rebellion and Just Stop Oil and others.

XR have given the UK government an ultimatum :

Extinction Rebellion and allies threaten to ‘step up’ protests ahead of big demonstration on London marathon weekend
https://www.standard.co.uk/news/uk/extinction-rebellion-big-one-protest-parliament-just-stop-oil-b1074885.html

At a press conference on Tuesday, eco-group Extinction Rebellion said it would be joined by allies in the disruption if its demands were not met.

It is calling for the Government to stop the search for new fossil fuels and to establish “emergency citizens’ assemblies” to decide how to bring about the end of the fossil fuel era.

XR issued its ultimatum ahead of “The Big One”, a four-day protest outside Parliament from Friday until Monday, which organisers predict will attract around 30,000 people.

Marijn van de Geer, of XR, told a press conference: “From today, we are putting the Government on notice.

“They have seven days to agree to enter negotiations around these two demands or we will step up our campaigns in new and inventive ways, working towards a coalition unprecedented in size.”

She said the Government has until 5pm on Monday April 24 “to agree to enter negotiations about the two collective demands that we have presented to them today”.

Ms van de Geer added: “If we don’t get a response, at 10am on Tuesday April 25 Extinction Rebellion will build an unprecedented coalition, stepping up our campaigns in the weeks and months ahead along three pathways – that is to picket to stand in solidarity with the strikers, to organise locally and to disobey.”

More than 200 organisations are supporting the “The Big One” action, including Greenpeace, Friends of the Earth and PCS Union, XR said.

Tomorrow, Saturday, is 22 April = Earth Day 2023

Earth Day is “celebrated” every year on 22 April.

The first Earth Day was on 22 April 1970

22 April 1970 just happened to be Vladimir Lenin’s 100th birthday = Lenin’s Centenary inaugurated Earth Day.

Citizens Assemblies are part of the UN’s Agenda 2030 & Sustainable Development Goals SDGs

It seems that most years now there are major eco type events on or around Earth Day …

We’ve all had to adapt to cope with a pandemic. Climate change will force far harsher changes on our kids. All of us should follow the young people who’ve led the efforts to protect our planet for generations, and demand more of our leaders at every level.

Anthony and crew,
I enjoyed another round table, but was left with the feeling that we aren’t doing enough to call out the insanity and stupidity of GangGreen!
As numerous studies show CO2 declining nearly continuously for the last 150 MYs, we ought to be calling out the necessity of INCREASING current levels in order to stave off the eventual death of ALL life on Earth due to CO2 starvation! This will require a worldwide effort, and a well educated populace to succeed, but every time I see a climate hoax demonstration I question the existence of an intelligent life form on Earth!

“…. but every time I see a climate hoax demonstration, I question the existence of an intelligent life form on Earth!”

**************

Reminds me of the joke about the reason we don’t get any communications from intelligent alien civilizations from out in deep space. They concluded that there is no intelligent life here on Earth.

“….but was left with the feeling that we aren’t doing enough to call out the insanity and stupidity of GangGreen!”

*******

I’ve been saying this for a long time. If these CAGW and green energy narratives are going to die the deaths they deserve, it needs to be done from the top. Trump had the opportunity when he was in office, but he did precious little to push back as far as I’m concerned. We’ll have to see what happens if he is elected for a second term next year.

I can only hope, that as people start to suffer due to virtue signaling politicians, that those politicians are also deprived of their energy and luxuries and heat and food and electricity, etc. We need a French revolution and the sooner the better.

The way things are going in western countries I would say that the lies and propaganda that has been spread for the last 40 years has worked .
Every news paper and TV news are pushing the story that WE have to take drastic action to stop this warming other wise we are doomed .
There are certainly not enough people that will stand up to the green mob and state the truth that if the western world takes these actions that XR and Greenpeace are demanding the western countries will all become poorer ,health care ,education and food security will all be threatened .
This is happening now in many countries ,here in New Zealand we have a shortage of doctors and nurses causing many delays .
Our education outcomes are pathetic and have been tracking down for a few years .
We have mentally challenged Greens in Parliament that would rather spend close to a billion dollars constructing a cycle bridge across the harbour in Auckland than upgrading hospitals and paying nurses more to help cover the rapid increase in food and fuel costs.
Green Queen Jacinda could not cope with the presure and resigned and the incoming PM promptly cancelled this bridge .
It is strange how educated people fall for these lies .One acquaintance who has a science degree believes this nonsense and has stated on more than one occaision that one meter of sea level rise is” locked in ” .1.5 mm per year ,he is dreaming.
Where do they get there information from ?

The EU will go Tits Up in 2035 with the ban on all ICE vehicles except those that run on E-Fuels (and how will they do that?). The amount of energy required will outstrip the ability to generate power immediately in 2035 or sooner (much sooner, actually). They are even proposing phasing in E-Fuels (called E-Kerosene) for jet fuels as well as mandating use of renewable fuels with no limits on the Carbon Intensity (the green nature) of the fuel. Thus high GHG emitting biofuels of which there are many will be allowed to be claimed as zero emissions fuels without consideration of the actual emissions associated with those fuels.
The EU is committing economic suicide, so we will see how far they get before more reasonable heads begin to figure out that this won’t work nor will it make any difference in climate.

More like civil war between the green blob and the realists. Governments won’t know which way to jump until there is a winner. Or they will just back the greens. Game over. None believers will be off to the re-education / extermination camps. Unfortunate but the salvation of the world will require it.

Will the resurfacing of the roads around parliament, with glued-on protesters, be a disadvantage? The savings from reduced law-enforcement and roading maintenance costs, will be dramatic!

The XR mindset is truly amazing—‘meet our demands in 7 days or else’. Else what? Hold your breath until you turn blue? Glue yourselves to stuff and get arrested? Scream louder and longer with ‘Allies ’?
I am reminded of my grandson’s temper tantrum in my arms when he was two. He grew out of it by age three; these supposed adults didn’t.

“”The Case For Making Earth Day a Religious Holiday

…we thought it useful to pose what a real Earth Day should represent and how it could form a central time for a new approach to worship.””

When I was being educated, was taught the world had seven great religions:

  1. Judism (same God as 2 and 3, different details about prophets and such)
  2. Catholicism
  3. Protestantism (schism from 2 instigated by Martin Luther over indulgences)
  4. Islam (some doubt whether Allah is same God as 1-3 given lack of mercy)
  5. Hindu (many gods)
  6. Buddhist (no gods, just reincarnating until Nirvana)
  7. Shinto (Japanese variant on 6, hence seppuku).

I would note that Gaia was none of the above, let alone the sub-Gaia religious hypothesis about Gaia being destroyed by evil global warming—so we must repent by going back to the preindustrial age and mostly then die. A very Jonestown/Rapture like Alarmist religious cult.

Rud,
Little did we realize back in the good old days of modern, liberal education that Marxism was merely a religion disguised as a disfunctional economic system! Sadly, the neo-Marxist eco-loons seem fully intent on (and capable of) destroying modern civilization to bring about their glorious Utopia where all can experience the joys of living without modern conveniences like water, food and shelter.
Perhaps to honor the era it will so closely approximate we should call it the Stoned Age!?

I think that you might have that right abolition man.
There are many people that think that capitalism is bad and that every thing should belong to every one .
We had a speaker at Rotary who was a lecturer at our local university speak about the idea that everybody should be paid a universal wage .
No need to work he said you could become a painter or a writer or just do nothing .
He never elaborated but the next step would be that you own nothing and you would be happy .
The government would own all houses and businesses and collective farms. Communism does not work and has been well proven not to work.
I am quite certain that this has been thought up those who want to impose one world government and using climate change as a threat to encourage lots of useful idiots working towards this goal ,hood winked into believing that they are saving the world .

Three replies to one post might be much, but it’s only pixels, right?
Yet current environmental problems pose existential threats to planetary and societal stability, even to civilization itself.”

“existential threats”

“existential”

I’d love to ask the author what purpose he had in mind when he chose the word existential, then explained it, then diluted it, then destroyed it. Writing is supposed to be a thinking activity, especially the “choosing words” part of writing.

In what might be a trend of sorts a film is making the rounds, “The Beasts”. Galician hillbillies are upset that a couple of opponents aren’t willing to sign on the dotted line for a local wind turbine project that involves a payment. Ultimately it ends in a death, of course. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U12WumVqDpY

Since the first Earth Day in 1970, hasn’t the planet’s population doubled, human life expectancy increased by 16 years, and agricultural output tripled? So with numbers like those alone, haven’t the gloom&doom predictions of the eco-alarmists been laid to rest and their credibility undermined once and for all?

Well said Ed but its not about saving the planet .
It is all about control and one world government .
These people.pushing this green alarmism are well aware that climate change is false but they have to drum up support by telling the wider population that if they don’t reduce their fossil fuel use the world will reach a tipping point and all will be lost .
They are using fear, telling the worlds population that it is not to late to change their ways do as we say (but not as we do).
They seem to be winning the battle for control but at least Asia is taking little if any notice.
All the emission reductions that western countries achieve are being nullified by China and India.
Why should western countries take drastic actions to make their people poorer when there is going to be no change in over all emissions world wide ?
Western countries have to wake up to what is happening in the world because Asian countries are ignoring this crass stupidity and just getting on with lifting their populations out of poverty using fossil fuel.
The rest of the world will become dependent on Asian industry which will not be a good outcome .
