An article in the Dailysceptic has this to say about the BBC’s “Frozen Planet” program.
Attenborough Claims Avalanches are Getting “More Unpredictable” Due to Climate Change, But Numbers Show Recent Dramatic Falls
Sunday night and it was time for the green doomster to send the children to bed with tears in their eyes with his improbable and unprovable tales of climate Armageddon. This week, Sir David Attenborough suggested that climate change was making “hugely destructive” snow avalanches “more and more unpredictable”. There is of course no way to prove such vague speculation, and curiously missing was any mention that recent snow avalanches have been falling in number across both the North American Rockies and the European Alps.
Filming Frozen Planet II in the Canadian Rockies, Attenborough prefaced his climate change claims with spectacular footage captured by a racing drone of an avalanche tumbling down a mountain at over 100mph. Cue up-tempo, stirring music as Sir David explained that in just two minutes, up to one million tonnes of snow hurtle down the mountainside. Of course, slides of any nature, snow or rock, can be unpredictable and have the potential to be hugely destructive. The climate has a part to play in such natural events, but to blame it all on humans burning fossil fuel is unprovable and beyond any credible scientific investigation. It is just Sir David’s scripted opinion, and it is aired to promote a command-and-control Net Zero agenda. As Sir David executive producer Mark Brownlow recently admitted: “Environmental storytelling is much more engrained in this series.”
…
Interestingly, as with many natural disasters, the death toll from avalanches over recent decades has more or less stabilised. A group of Alpine geographers found that over the last four decades about 100 people lost their lives in the Alps every year. However the number of people who have lost their lives in what are described as ‘controlled settlements’ has decreased significantly since the 1970s. The number of fatalities in ‘uncontrolled settlements’, mostly recreational accidents, almost doubled between 1960-1980, but has remained relatively stable since then, despite a strong increase in winter skiers.
Attenborough, and other political climate change promoters, cannot have it both ways. If massive human-caused global warming is on its way, this will lead to less snow. Scientific investigation has confirmed that avalanche activity is lower during periods of low snowfall, and it is reasonable to state they become more predictable, not less. But is there less snow around? Maybe a bit less in the recent past, with a small bout of natural warming that seems to have run out of steam since the turn of the century. The European Geosciences Union published an extensive paper last year looking at long-term Alpine snow trends and found “some recovery” after the poor snow years during the 1980s and early 1990s.
Josh decided this needed a cartoon.

Only in the world of climate alarmism can claims of the end of snow and also large, dangerous avalanches live together their fevered brains.
Hey, global warming will increase hurricanes and droughts, sometimes on the same place

More credible that CAGW.
Only in the world of climate alarmism do they predict that things will become more unpredictable.
Nice quip…
I do believe that you’ve written the first ever valid scientific proof of global warming. Since global warming makes things more unpredictable, all of the wrong predictions of the last half century, offer solid proof of global warming.

Great
[you have a yahoo email (that works) not gmail-mod]
But that supports the BBC’s claim.
If snowfall is high, then snow accumulates and can be guaranteed to be dangerous every year.
If snowfall is low, there could be several years that are safe.
That’s more unpredictable.
It might not occur to many but solar EMR at the top of the atmosphere is HIGHLY correlated with surface temperature outside the tropics making allowance for the thermal lag. Attached is the Southern Ocean with a regression coefficient of 93% but very sluggish response. The correlation for land and oceans in the mid latitudes is even higher.
The surface temperature response to sunlight over oceans in the tropics is negative. The surface actually gets cooler as the sunlight increases.
The great thing about the climate is you can have your cake and eat it.
“Avalanches are Getting “More Unpredictable” Due to Climate Change”
And yet they also claim:
“Like the Arctic, this European mountain range is becoming greener. Writing in the journal Science, researchers from the University of Lausanne and the University of Basel have now used satellite data to show that vegetation above the tree line has increased in nearly 80% of the Alps. “
https://phys.org/news/2022-06-consequences-climate-alps-visible-space.html
Logically that means less snow….
“There is of course no way to prove such vague speculation”
Precisely why it was made in the first place. It sounds scary and it is the Saintly David who is telling you…
The ‘saintly’ David is reading his script as it is given to him. The scriptwriters, however, do appear to be coming more and more unhinged as the series’ are released – they really don’t care any more whether what they say has any relationship with the real world. And the ‘saintly’ David continues to read his script as it is given to him, never questioning or thinking about it, never aware of what the consequences might be for he is just a (very) simple presenter.
What a sellout
He always was; whilst Bellamy and others stood their ground against the rising tide of idiocy, Attenborough was (and is) content to cash his extremely lucrative paycheques.

Did hey really say millions of tons of snow? As if they did then it doesn’t take a genius to work out that it would take at least a square kilometre of snow to be this amount. That seems a bit big to me.
If climate change is going to make snow a thing of the past, how is it also going to increase the number of avalanches?
When has Climate Alarmism ever been logically self-consistent?
Easy! There used to be snow here. Now it’s down there! Can I get a grant to study this effect by drilling into trees somewhere?
Preferably somewhere nice and warm where drinks have those little umbrellas
I never liked those little umbrellas. They are always getting caught in my throat.
Funny how there are facts based on real data and then a media interpretation, well maybe not that funny
Have any studies been done to compare the volume of real horseshit on the streets in 1870 to the volume of digital horseshit in science literature today?
Let’s see:
In London alone (and probably worldwide) there were 50,000 horses transporting people around the city each day.
Each horse produced up to 35 lbs (15.8757) of manure daily, so that’s 50,000 x 35 = 1,7500,000 lbs (793786.6475 Kg) of horseshit each and everyday.
So yes, the volume of digital horseshit in climate science far exceeds the horseshit on the streets in 1870.
Well done Josh – as always.
Just remember, there is absolutely nothing the Magic Molecule CO2 cannot do even though it comprises only a bit more than 4 molecules out of every 10,000 in our atmosphere. Nothing is more potent! Except the fevered imaginations of the true believers. Oh and also for the con men and women, thar’s gold in them thar molecules…
Also remember that it is not every molecule of CO2 that has these superhuman properties as it is ONLY those CO2 molecules created by human activities that are so powerful. They truly are one in a million molecules (or thereabouts!)
It seems that Sir David Attenborough has un unpredictiblometer, as he is able to quantify the unpredictibility of avalanches (is he having lessons with CO2 seeing Greta?).
He has to leave room for a sequel The lying old fool thinks he’s going to live forever.
He’s probably sold the rights to his likeness and voice for CGI work long after he’s gone!
Did he start it just for the filming??
Just asking
🤣 ……😮😲🙁
Wouldn’t be a bit surprised.
“There is however another rather more sinister possible explanation for the stampede. According to the USFWS (U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service:
Walruses often flee haulouts en masse in response to the sight, sound, and especially odo[]rs from humans and machines.
So it is perfectly possible that it was the filmmakers themselves who caused the stampede up the cliffs.
Indeed, as this aerial shot showed, there must have been some sort of helicopter or drone flying immediately above the walrus… .”
(Source: https://notalotofpeopleknowthat.wordpress.com/2019/04/14/why-attenboroughs-walrus-claims-are-fake/ emphasis and a minor edit (if it’s the U.S. F.W.S., would not have spelled “odor” “odour”) mine)
How dare you!
He has people for that
Whoda thunk? Globull warming causes more snow! Probably causes hemorrhoids and hang nails too.
Never scratch an itchy hemorrhoid when you have a hang nail.
Hmmm, you may have a point
I’ve noticed I started getting haemorrhoids 20 years ago. Clearly this is CO2’s fault and nothing to do with age.
Where’s my cheque?
Note they say avalanches will be “more unpredictable”, not more numerous. Of course the audience is deliberately misled by this. Comments here indicate it worked.
Technically a random sequence of events will be more unpredictable as the number approaches zero. If they happen all the time, you could declare that today is the day, and be right sometimes. If they happen once in 100 years, you would be wrong almost every time. ‘It’s tough to make predictions, especially about the future.’
We forget the Major Complaint against the BBC of April 2016 – 160 pages – wherein an entire chapter was devoted to a decade of Attenboro scientific falsity. It goes on – teamed with the disgraced Mikey Mann in the BBC TV ‘climate – change the facts’. Which attracted numerous formal complaints. And the recent falling walruses con. Disgraceful.
And the BBC is right, of course…
and it doesn’t sit there making stuff up – it just reports what scientists tell it…
At Least 7 Die in Glacier Collapse in Italy’s Dolomites – The New York Times (nytimes.com)
Snow is a thing of the past.
Avalanches are not possible.
QED.
Yeah that’s sad Griff.
Your point?
And about 70 people died from shark attacks.
Neither had anything to do with climate capers.
One avalanche occurs and griffie pops up to assure that this proves global warming is real and is going to kill us all.
BTW, real scientists use actual data. They don’t rely on models to produce the data they want to see.
The map already shown might not do full justice to the circumstances of the Oetzi discovery as the find spot, marked in red and in German as Fundstelle, is quite high in the mountains.

The story seems to be that he was trying to get to high ground to escape his attackers but died of his wounds. Not seen the location like that before, thanks.
Wow.. Its like glaciers have never collapsed before. 😉
You are a class z nong , griff.
What about the thousands of UK subjects who will die this winter because of idiotic green policies turning off reliable energy?
Will you feel sad for them, guilty about your part in their deaths or just accept their demise as friendly fire, Griff?
Clearly we need to remove all glaciers they are dangerous 🙂
Attenborough: Can someone get me out of here?!
.
Bristlecone Mike: Here I come! I’ll do my little “nature trick!”
.
Phil: Cheers!
Kinda curious, isn’t it? Children won’t know what snow looks like anymore, yet avalanches will be causing more problems. Methinks something doesn’t add up.
Ahhh
I guess you haven’t seen St. David’s Bank Account.
BTW, the Commie cove in Rome looks unsteady, so, maybe, Attenborough will be Pope by Easter …..
Auto
Anyone with any training in avalanche safety will tell you that the sequence of storms and types of snow in the snowpack is far more important than the total volume of snow.
For example, on the island of Hokkaido in Japan, it snows nearly every day the heart of winter. At Niseko ski area, they receive close to 600 inches of maritime snow in a typical season. The snowpack is homogenous and quite stable.
In Colorado , by comparison, gets generally less than half that amount of snow. Storm cycles are punctuate by long periods of cold clear weather, which metamorphoses the snow, creating unstable layers. Then, when the next storm cycle happens, even a relatively small event (say 12″) can lead to very significant avalanche risks.
The over all point being is that snowfall is just one part of the equation when looking at avalanche risks and frequency. Anyone who says otherwise simply knows nothing of the science.
Avalanches are becoming less predictable now as compared to when?
The future when there is no snow? 😊
Attenborough, eh? Boaty mac Boatface, even as a name for a boat: what does that show of the way he is portrayed or that people think of him? I gave up on him years ago along with Nat Geographic. Frustration is that when you scan Satellite Programs, his/beeb’s programs crop up EVERYWHERE … such is the spread of misinformation as fact: WITHOUT QUESTION.
Anyroad, Avalanches ARE unpredictable: other than all the research done to show and that we now do understand the relation between Temperatures and Snow / Ice layers, THere ARE forecasts to keep away from certain areas, etc etc… So what’s HIS problem? Does he not watch similar Docus about life with the Avalanches from Switzerland and Canada / Alaska ? Jings, even here we get forecasts for Glencoe or the Cairngorms in Season… just saying, nothing new here.
Yeah, I’ve been hearing that line about more dangerous/frequent avalanches here in Colorado ever since I moved here. Like hurricanes in Florida or floods on floodplains in the Midwest, it isn’t climate change, it’s climate same…
Well, I guess “unpredictable” doesn’t have to mean “more frequent”.
“Of course, slides of any nature, snow or rock, can be unpredictable and have the potential to be hugely destructive.”
Pardon me if this is a dumb question but when were avalanches ever predictable?
Photography fantastic, Attenborough abysmal.
This series is full of exaggeration and unjustifiable misery.
Watch with the sound down.
