WEF: Teach Compulsory Climate Change Studies to Alleviate Youth Anxiety

Essay by Eric Worrall

According to the World Economic Forum, if we teach young people the world is about to end and the adults are doing nothing, they will feel less climate anxiety.

Should schools teach climate change studies? These countries think so

Aug 24, 2022

  • A study from a British university reveals that more than half of young people experience climate anxiety on a daily basis.
  • The UN is calling for climate education to become compulsory in schools from 2025 to better equip children to cope with global warming in the future.
  • Only a handful of countries currently mandate climate studies in their education systems, despite many being signatories to this objective in the Paris Agreement.

The effects of climate change continue to be seen and felt around the world. Intense summer heatwaves, severe flooding and damaging storms are becoming ever more common. The fear is that future generations will have to pick up the pieces if concerted global action isn’t taken before it’s too late.

Many believe that putting climate change-related subjects on school curriculums will help young people cope better with the reality of global warming, both practically and psychologically.

Last year, a global study revealed that climate anxiety affects the daily life of nearly half of young people. The research, carried out by the University of Bath, was based on surveys of 10,000 young people across 10 countries – 75% of respondents said they believe “the future is frightening”.

American think-tank Brookings argues that more awareness of the environment in schools will evolve into changes in consumer behaviour, with reduced energy consumption and waste. It says this would have a bigger impact on trying to reach net zero by 2050 than from investing in renewable energy like wind turbines and solar power.

Government inaction on climate change linked to psychological distress in young people – new study

Largest scientific study of its kind finds climate anxiety affects the daily life and functioning of nearly half of children and young people surveyed globally.

Press release

Published on Tuesday 14 September 2021
Last updated on Wednesday 5 January 2022

Nearly half of global youth surveyed (45%) say climate anxiety and distress is affecting their daily lives and functioning – according to results from the largest scientific study into climate anxiety in children and young people, according to new research.

The inaugural study, based on surveys with 10,000 children and young people (16-25) across 10 countries, found 75% of young respondents believe ‘the future is frightening’ – jumping to 81% of youth surveyed in Portugal and 92% in the Philippines. It found, for the first time, that climate distress and anxiety is significantly related to perceived government inaction and associated feelings of betrayal. 58% of children and young people surveyed said governments were “betraying me and/or future generations,” while 64% said their governments are not doing enough to avoid a climate catastrophe.

The study found widespread psychological distress among children and young people globally and warns ‘such high levels of distress, functional impact and feelings of betrayal will negatively affect the mental health of children and young people.’ Experts warn that because continued government inaction on climate change is psychologically damaging, it potentially amounts to a violation of international human rights law.

Of course, not all the kids subjected to this kind of brainwashing respond by becoming climate warriors. Some of them can’t cope with the climate doomsday messaging, and make self destructive personal choices.

The following is 2019 testimony from Dr. Alex Wodak, a renowned Australian drug rehabilitation specialist;

First, the threshold step is redefining drugs as primarily a health and social issue rather than primarily a law enforcement issue. Second, drug treatment has to be expanded and improved until it reaches the same level as other health services. Third, all penalties for personal drug use and possession have to be scrapped.

Fourth, as much of the drug market as possible has to be regulated while recognising that part of the drug market is already regulated, such a methadone treatment, needle and syringe programs, medically supervised injecting centres. It will, of course, never be possible to regulate the entire drug market. We have regulated parts of the drug market before. Edible opium was taxed and regulated in Australia until 1906 and in the United States Coca-Cola contained cocaine until 1903.

Fifth, efforts to reduce the demand for powerful psychoactive drugs in Australia have had limited benefit and require a new focus. Unless and until young Australians feel optimistic about their future, demand for drugs will remain strong. Young people, understandably, want more certainty about their future prospects, including climate, education, jobs and housing affordability. Change will be slow and incremental, like all social policy reform.

As Herb Stein, as adviser to President Nixon said:
Things that cannot go on forever don’t.

Drug prohibition cannot go on forever and will be replaced by libertarian paternalism. Thank you.

Teaching more climate anxiety might convince many of the victims to embrace “changes in consumer behaviour” in later life, but quite apart from the unconscionable immorality of trying to program kids rather than educate them, there appears to be a lot of collateral damage, those unfortunate young people who don’t make it through the brainwashing intact, whose minds are broken by their climate “education”.

The greens pushing this brainwashing for kids don’t seem to care about the harm they are causing. The green focus appears to be forcing “changes in consumer behaviour”, regardless of the cost and suffering.

If the North American students learn climate change propaganda as well as they learn math, English grammar, history/geography, etc., they’ll retain next to nothing, so no one should be too concerned about their being brainwashed. It’ll be in one ear and out the other. Besides, what are the chances that they’ll make any big lifestyle changes to fight the climate change myths.

They retain climate change propaganda because humans are hard wired to respond to fear with heightened attention. Other subjects not so much…

The difference being, when they’ve finished school, the ‘lessons’ regarding math, English grammar, history/geography, etc. END.

The ‘climate’ propaganda, on the other hand, will continue to bombard them every time they look at their Stoopid Phones, computers, or TVs.

Only if they get most of their socialization face-to-face.

commieBob, while you can find counterexamples, socialization is rarely a problem with homeschooled children. More often, they’re even better socialized since they interact with a wider variety of people, rather than mostly kids their own age.

I count TWO generations, note one; Taking one generation as 25 years, as usual:

  1. Kids now 10 year old, now being brainwashed;
  2. One generation before, kids were 10 year old in 1997: they were already being brainwashed withg “global warming” (the previous name of “climate change”; that DID NOT start with Al Gore’s convenient lie of 2006, it started earlier).

Maybe Klaus Schwab, self-elected head of WEF, should set us all an example by leading the lifestyle that he is encouraging us plebs to follow.
In the Middle Ages the monasteries had a lifestyle that followed the lifestyle of Poverty, Chastity and Obedience.
So Mr Schwab, why not only have one house, heated by air source heat pump, always use public transport and embrace veganism.

Teaching basic earth science would be an improvement.
For instance, how many young people know that the Puget Sound
area – think Seattle – was an ice dome of about 1,000 meters?
Something changed and the ice melted.
Teaching the nonsense mentioned in this post would be wrong
on so many levels –I’d resign.

I think that you mean “real teaching real earth science”. I did not put stress because all words are heavy: “real”, “real teachnig”, “science”, “real science”.
Nowadays they are taught through analogies and metaphors, not through the understanding of the fundamenals and methods of reasoning with them; taught without historical and theoretical perspective (how can anyone understand the fake narrative of CO2 in climate without knowing that sometime in the History of Science there was a “phlogiston” and its consequences to chemistry AND the other sciences, both when scientists believed it was real and after Lavoisier).
Just figure how nowadays everything is “…, like,…”: reasoning by analogies; comparing one graph/picture (that, as they say, tells more than one thousand words…) with another graph; etc.
Notice: the example given, “…, like, …”, applies mostly to the USA. But it influences most other “western” nations: in my country (Portugal) we speak a differente language but I see the equivalent methods of teaching and the resulting use of rhetoric words and expressions that represent that “knowledge” acquired through and based on analogies and metaphors.

I took a course in the education department while at university years ago. The course was taught by a former supervisor for a large school district. It was titled Foundations of Secondary Education. One thing he said that astounded me was “you don’t have to know the subject to teach you just have to know how to teach”. I argued with him quite a bit during that semester. Definitely affected my grade.
I read a study a few years back where teachers were tested on the subject matter they were teaching. They did very poorly.
Classmates from my high school went into education because it was “easy”.
I doubt that things have changed for the better.

That supervisor didn’t have a clue about teaching and you were right to argue with him. I’m a maths teacher and consider myself a good teacher. However, I’d be rubbish at teaching English Literature as I don’t have the necessary knowledge base. Equally, the excellent English Lit teacher in my school would be more than happy to admit that they wouldn’t have the first clue about teaching calculus.

Alleviate anxiety? What they are doing is the opposite of what you would do to alleviate anxiety, it is basically anti-cognitive behavioral therapy. The modern approach of training activists and inflicting catatstrophism onto young minds is a recipe to produce mental illness. I would argue here that Hanlon’s Razor would not apply to the people developing and applying this madness inducing curricula, they know full well what they are doing. This kind of thing has been tried before, in the USSR and in Mao’s China, it always ends the same way and will be no different this time.

See for instance what has happened in France; and some months earlier, in Germany; and what is happening now in the UK, though it is no longer in the EU. There are spontaneous manifestations of miscontent but not orgnized and coherent alternatives; nor a coherent understanding of the origins of their present “crisis”: they are used to live from one “crisis” to another… everything is taken as conjuncture, as a fortuitous event, not as a consequence of political choices made sometime, not very long, ago.

People wonder why there are so many drug induced deaths. Could it be that people that are taken in by the propaganda are looking for a release from the anxiety caused by these evil people?

The influx of drug mules crossing the borders with enough fentanyl to kill a city might have something to do with it too. I hear that just about every illicit drug is being spiked with the stuff.

The combination of depressed people and spiked drugs is bound to result in lots of deaths.

Sounds like another plan by the WEF working as intended. They are trying to decrease the population and they have many avenues to go down to accomplish their goals.

Depression among kids is just a bonus to them. It’ll soften them up to be obedient drones.

Not much sign in Australia over the last decade.

Now, here is a lively story.
Journalist friend Tony Thomas wrote in Quadrant journal a fortnight ago, using that graph.

One was ex-Greenpeace co-founder Dr Patrick Moore, who was punished by social media for showing it and other Quadrant material.
Another was BC Canada politician John Rustad who was sacked for using it and other material from Quadrant.

Anyone who can tell fact from fiction, with a little study, can see that there is no actual evidence supporting CO2 as being a dangerous gas.

You don’t even really need a background in science to figure this out. All you need is a little logical thinking. If you understand what a fact is, then you will understand that alarmist climate change promoters don’t have any. All they really have are unsubstantiated assumptions and assertions. Nevertheless it continues to amaze that this group, which has no democratic or institutional credibility by treaty and hence no mandate, is so influential in world affairs. I live on the northern West Coast of North America. In April a few years ago the regional 6 O’clock News had a Climate Change item, that the mountain streams were running dry in our area due to global warming and water restrictions were likely that summer. Complete with a picture of a little trickling stream in a forest. Then it cut to the Weather; the weatherperson was looking confused and went off-script. “What are they talking about?” she said. “ The snowfall has been good this winter and you can see for yourself that the snow hasn’t melted up on the mountains yet. We’ve not even had spring runoff.” She was off work for a week after that, doubtless a warning to support the official gaslighting.

the morons who put this IN the paris claptrap and who promote the fear daily are the ones that need locking up to help get our kids brains unscrambled BY removing this bunkum.

So, to summarize, to deal with the anxiety caused by feeding children ‘climate’ propaganda, they need to be fed MORE ‘climate’ propaganda.

Kind of like curing a heroin addict of their addiction by increasing their supply of heroin.

The stupid, it burns.

You did read the rest of the article? The bit where they want to decriminalise drug sales and use? That will not reduce the supply of heroin.

Compulsory “Climate Change” courses to relieve climate anxiety?
There are a number of books under “Book Reviews” in WUWT’s title bar that would be excellent textbooks to achieve that goal.
Unsettled, Steven Koonin’s new book, A Review of Dr. John Christy’s Book “Is it Getting Hotter in Fresno…or Not?”, Climate Change: The Facts are just a few examples.

Talk about confounding factors, even if this survey were legitimate and unbiased (which I can assume it was not without even needing to see it), it was done at the height of ChiCom-19, with children who were socially isolated, masked, poked and frightened by lying public health officials.

It’s not as bad as being burned at the stake for not complying but it’s the same tactic to force compliance through fear. It won’t work with adults so they descent to the low moral level of attacking children. Disgusting.

And don’t forget to take your CBD before nap time. The lobbyists say it’s good for you.

Taking care of the world is a job for adults.
It is immoral to put the responsibility of Big People problems on children.
Teach them earth science, biology, physics, chemistry, etc.

Then, when they get to be adults, they can join the rest of us adults in “deliberative democracy,” “participatory democracy,” as we all carry out the political process to determine what government is and what it should be doing.

Why are these people preying on the kids? Because they can. And because, otherwise, no one is buying what they are selling.

Along with climate fear, kids get raised in a constant bath of America is Bad, Racism, Se xism, etc.

I work with young adults a lot. The ones that are the “SJW” almost all have psychological problems. It is from growing up this way.

The world is not about to end.

Just ask each youth one question, how has climate change affected you personally?
take away the big lie and see the difference in the answer.

Curious how none of these post modern patricians promoting this nonsense for the plebs are ascetic monks practicing what they preach;I hope they enjoy the reversions to the mean by those future egalitarian Doctor Guillotines.

Hey, WEF, I hear that a 19-year old Ms. Greta Thunberg is available to lead your suggested teaching movement.

You may want to reach out to her.

If not, how dare you!

We’re from the WEF and we’re here to help you. No, it’s not an option–object and you might become a statistic.

All non governmental institutions, not just the WEF need to be observed with the utmost scrotiny, they are fundamentally undedemocratic there is no control and they tend to be ideological. And as this example proves plain stupid. Keep on the good work of campaigning against the WEF,

“scrontiny” . . . a mash up of “scrotum” and “tiny”, appropriately used in context.

Teach Compulsory Fake Climate Change Studies to Create Youth Anxiety

Bob Meyer
August 25, 2022 6:47 pm

Let’s make children afraid of zombies. Zombie movies, zombie TV show, zombie books. Then, when they show fear of zombies we can “help” alleviate their anxieties with “Zombie Awareness” training. Soon, we will be able to turn them into zombies.

The real problem is public education. It was always a bad idea and now, it’s become obvious just how bad it is. Public education must be ended. For the short term, give parents the money and let them find any education for their kids that they want. No interference from government. Some kids will get crap educations because their parents are idiots or abusive. Most kids will get education more tuned to their capabilities.

August 25, 2022 7:53 pm

Another lunatic idea from the green devils. I am convinced that a fair minority of youth are frightened about climate change. There is a good reason they are frightened, they have been told to be frightened 24/7 by the mainstream media, politicians, educators, friends, family and I don’t know who else. Stop telling them to be frightened and they will no longer be frightened, it’s as easy as that. I’m frankly amazed the percentage who claimed to be frightened wasn’t higher.

“According to the World Economic Forum, if we teach young people the world is about to end and the adults are doing nothing, they will feel less climate anxiety.”

My thoughts immediately went to “How I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb.”
