Climate Activists Discover French Police Don’t Use Glue Solvent

Essay by Eric Worrall

WARNING, includes graphic video: After this, it might be a while until climate activists try glueing themselves to anything in France.

Activists should do their research before pulling a stunt like that. US and UK police might be soft on disruptive protestors, but there are some police forces you just don’t mess with.

It’s the band-aid approach. You can rip off the band-aid for a brief bit of pain, or you can wear it until it falls off on its own.

The trouble with the solvent approach is that there are no consequences to the protesters.

The French used the ‘rip it’ approach. The Brits should quit using solvent if they are not going to use the ‘rip it’ technique and just direct traffic around the protesters until the glue gives way in 2 or 3 days.

I’d also make sure the protesters had plenty to drink. 🤣

Before ripping the hand away from the pavement, it should be the responsibility of the Gendarme to ensure that the hand is in fact firmly glued to the pavement. To that end, super glue will become standard equipment for all police.

“WARNING, includes graphic video: After this, it might be a while until climate activists try glueing themselves to anything in France.”

Many in Western culture today seems to be of the mindset that there should be no consequences (outside of getting arrested) for doing stupid things like sitting in the middle of a busy roadway and gluing oneself to it. I don’t know that I necessarily agree with that.

I still want to kick myself when I do something stupid.

The basis is in Marxism.
Marxists are not concerned with adjusting this or that policy. Until a nation goes Marxist, they are dissatisfied. In fact, until the entire world gives up on nations, and is all one Communist government.

Marxists believe that political systems develop to preserve themselves. No duh.
So, French Law (or laws in any other nation) serve to preserve the overall system, while allowing some modest scope changes here and there.

But the overall system is the problem, per Marxists. The “oppression” they perceive is basked in to the system. And cannot be reformed or redressed within the system.

So, the system itself needs to be toppled, and replaced. The change they believe is needed cannot come from “within.” The system will work to sustain the prevailing system, no matter how much “change” happens.

With this philosophical tenet, the ONLY way to change the system is by working outside the system; not in it.

So, Marxist actions often include these disruptive actions. This person gluing self to roadway is equal to you or me voting, or starting a civic group around an issue.

Some public issue campaigns that are happy to work within the prevailing system do perform attention-getting stunts.

This is just publicity, getting attention. But for Marxists, this is what they do. Until enough of us are “woke” enough to be ready for Revolution, and we all rise up and kill the oppressors.

Craig from Oz
Reply to  TheLastDemocrat

One of the problems with Marxism is that Marx talked up the struggle between those who worked, and those who owned.

(he also wished out of existence the owner/workers, cause they ruined his argument)

So, those who worked should rise up and take away from those who own. And then… keep working…

So, problem – In a Worker’s Paradise, YOU are still just a worker.

And second problem – where does Marx and his little friends sit in this model? Are they workers or owners?

Neither.

Marx was an outsider looking in and complaining that he wasn’t being respected for his intellect and big bushy beard. He wanted the system to upend so that him and his peers could take their place ‘guiding’ society, but were never prepared to actually put their own existence on the line.

What happens to Marxist when the revolution fails? They go back to musing with each other on the ills of the world.

What happens to everyone else when the revolution fails? Well the factories are destroyed, the supply chains are screwed, people are struggling for food and there is no work.

Marx, and all his little follower friends, are cowards wanting you to upend your life so that they can upgrade their status.

Karl Marx believed in natural superiors. A group of which he, of course, belonged.

excerpt from Communist Manifesto:
“The bourgeoisie, wherever it has got the upper hand, has put an end to all feudal, patriarchal, idyllic relations. It has pitilessly torn asunder the motley feudal ties that bound man to his “natural superiors”, and has left remaining no other nexus between man and man than naked self-interest, than callous “cash payment”.

“…callous cash payment”, I guess he desired to go back to the days of barter.

CD suggested:

…the mindset that there should be no consequences (outside of getting arrested) for doing stupid things…

This is the thing. A great many members of society believe they have a ‘Right’ to ‘Things’.

The core problem here is what actually is a Right?

Who gives them out?

Are you born with them? These ‘Basic Human Rights’, does Greta give them to you using the power of her scowl? When you go out into the bush and yell to the trees ‘I have a RIGHT!’ do the trees and rocks and animals give a toss?

You know what Nature probably really thinks your rights are?

  • You have a right to be eaten
  • You have a right to drown
  • You have a right to heat exhaustion
  • You have a right to hypothermia
  • You have a right to fresh water… provided you are willing to get off your bum, find it and then if need be contest for that water with other creatures.

Sorry, but quite frankly you have NO RIGHTS.

What you have is are collections of CONDITIONS that your society and culture have agreed are acceptable.

Let us take the idea of a Constitutional Right. One might say ‘My Right to [subject] is included in the Constitution’ and in a literal sense you may be correct. However how did this right get there? Someone put it into the Constitution and then everyone involved ratified it. It was an agreed condition.

Had this argument with a peer recently. He offered up that he believed it was a basic right to have clean water.

Really? Why? Again, go out into nature and tell them that, see if they listen.

I counter that it is NOT your ‘right’ to clean water, it is your expectation based on the society you live in and it is delivered based on terms and conditions of your society. You want clean water to your house? You willing to pay for the water you use? You willing to pay council rates to maintain the pipes that feed your property? Yes? Then you can have your water.

It is not a ‘right’ for clean water, it is a society agreement that clean water will be provided under agreed conditions. And how did your society get to the stage where this agreement exist? By long term adjustments to what people believed was a fair compromise – and sometimes fair compromises are reached by demanding.

(also, since the link to clean water with health is pretty established, providing clean water is often a bit of a win/win for everyone involved, so sometimes compromises are easy to make.)

So, how does this tie into glue man?

These people seem to live with a perception that they have a RIGHT to do actions like gluing themselves and that their ‘rights’ them protect them.

Well… no.

First up, you don’t really have ‘rights’. You have society agreements and they can be changed.

Second – and Your Nation May Vary – you are not so much ‘protected’ as such, it is more that other people have a Duty of Care to ensure you do not come to deliberate or avoidable harm.

The flip side is you have a responsibility not to do something stupid.

Case points – and again, Your Nation May Vary – but Industrial Safety/Risk Reduction works to So Far As Is Reasonably Practical. You have a legal duty of care to reduce risks, but only So Far As Is Reasonably Practical.

Let us say you have a deep hole in the footpath. You have a duty of care to reduce the risk of people falling in. So a fence with warning signs. But you could also evacuate the entire area out to 1km radius and post armed guards around the exclusion zone. This would also reduce the risk of someone falling into the hole, but is not Reasonably Practical.

The other part of this is that you do not have to factor in deliberate intent. If you put up a fence and post signs and someone deliberately ignores the signs, climbs the fence and still falls in? They showed deliberate intend to get close to the edge of the hole.

And this is where we get to the protestors.

They know that pedestrians are not allowed to obstruct traffic in normal conditions. This is a well established society condition. They know that a vehicle in motion can cause damage from impact. They know that a vehicle can crush you under the wheels. Being in a ‘vehicle zone’ is a RISK.

So if you deliberately enter a vehicle zone and deliberately make it difficult to remove you from the said area, then you have shown clear intent to IGNORE risk reduction processes.

It is not your right to be there.

Duty of Care works both ways.

In fact in some nations the police may be bound with a Duty of Care to ensure you are removed from a clear place of danger.

So stop crying if you get hurt or beaten up by law enforcement.

I think that you may be inaccurate on two counts.

The first is that rights are not conferred by the (US) constitution.
The US Constitution explicitly states that our rights are endowed by our creator.
The constitution, government, or leaders cannot confer what we are endowed with by God. If rights are conferred by man, then no rights are absolute.

Secondly is that the US Constitution is written as a shackle for government.
It was written to prevent men from doing harm to others through gaining power.
In fact, the Federal Government had no authority over individuals in the beginning.
It wasn’t until the sixteenth amendment that allowed individual taxation that the government began to gain real power over individuals. And it’s been downhill from there.

Used uranium trains (CASTOR) only run on diesel. (Electric isn’t considered reliable.)
Also, there is “always” in helicopter to tell the driver is the way is clear.

Obstructing these castors was a long tradition. (Hence the “hélico”)

Just one day, the hélico was refueling at the time (random chance – so we are told).
So the driver saw the protester Sébastien Briard attached to the rails a bit too late. Guy got his legs cut (or one leg?). Later he died.

I was referring to the behavior of soccer (association football) players, who, almost uniquely among professional athletes, routinely disgrace themselves by simulating injury in order to try and convince a referee a foul has taken place.

It is starting to infect basketball, unfortunately. Hence the common nickname of the future Hall of Famer: LeFlop James.

An Oscar waiting for that prima donna.

But the French police, in particular, les gendarmes, the men of arms, don’t hold their punches. I lived in The south of France many years ago and the local gangsters had found a new money spinner: they followed high range cars like Mercs or Audis on them motorway, forced them to stop brandishing machine guns, robbed the passengers and drove off with car. The solution was brutal.
les gendarmes sent out decoy cars packed with heavily armed police. When they were targeted they came out all guns blazing, two robbers were killed there and then with the one survivor, left to tell the tale, a few weeks in hospital.
