Materials Acquisition for Global Industrial Change (MAGIC)

Biden relies on adherence to climate crisis creed and belief in MAGIC to transform USA, world

Paul Driessen

Via executive orders, regulatory edicts and partisan Green New Deal legislation, President Biden intends to slash US carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gas emissions by 50% below their 2005 peak by 2030, and eliminate them (and fossil fuel use) by 2050. But as AOC’s former chief of staff noted, the GND is not just about transforming America’s energy system; it’s about changing the entire economy.

This radical transformation is driven by three fundamental Articles of Faith, none of them based on reality.

1) The crisis of manmade climate cataclysms necessitates this GND. Team Biden believes natural forces no longer play a role; rising temperatures since the Little Ice Age ended two centuries ago are due solely to fossil fuel use and CO2 emissions, as are all extreme weather events over recent decades; and the 12-year absence of Category 3-5 hurricanes making US landfall (from Wilma in 2005 to Harvey in 2017) is irrelevant – as is the significant decline in violent (F3-F5) US tornadoes 1986-2020 compared to 1950-1985, and that for the first time in history not one violent twister hit the United States in 2018.

(For a full reality check, read books by Gregory Wrightstone, Marc Morano, Indur Goklany, Patrick Moore, Roy Spencer, Jennifer Marohasy and Obama Energy Undersecretary of Science Steven Koonin.)

2) American foreign policy must construct a values-based world order that can tackle humanity’s common problems in an organized, collegial manner. Team Biden believes such problems cannot be solved by national governments acting alone, so world leaders have no choice but to work together. Wall Street Journal global view columnist Walter Russell Means calls this the Biden Doctrine.

However, China, India and many other countries don’t view climate change as an existential threat – much less a problem that justifies sacrificing their energy needs, economic growth, national security and geopolitical aspirations. They may give lip service to the alleged “climate crisis,” “decarbonization” and “green energy.” But they know their futures are inextricably tied to the abundant, reliable, affordable energy that only oil, natural gas and coal (plus hydroelectric and nuclear) can provide. They are not going to “work together” with leaders who expect them to undermine their most vital goals.

The Biden Doctrine’s second inherent failing is that GND policies will inevitably hollow out America’s industrial and military might, destroy jobs, and reduce US leverage in future negotiations. China already controls the raw material supply chains for wind turbines, solar panels, battery modules for electric vehicles and backup power systems, and countless other technologies. Even our advanced military equipment relies on metals and minerals that are mined and/or processed by Chinese companies. GND policies would only worsen the situation.

3) Replacing the 80% of US energy that now comes from fossil fuels can be accomplished quickly, easily, affordably and ecologically – with clean, green, renewable, sustainable, carbon-free wind and solar technologies that will create millions of good jobs, and save our planet from climate devastation.

The foundation for this presumed global transformation is the Biden Administration’s Materials Acquisition for Global Industrial Change program – better known by its acronym: MAGIC.

(This is not an official name. In fact, there is no such program, and no evidence that Team Biden has a clue about what would be required to transform America from fossil to green energy. MAGIC simply provides the most accurate description of how they expect to achieve this transformation.)

The raw material requirements for a GND economy are astronomical, mind-numbing. To cite just one example of hundreds, Team Biden wants to install 30,000 megawatts of wind turbines off America’s Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico and Pacific coasts. Assuming 10,000 MW per coastline, total Atlantic coast wind capacity would barely meet three-fourths of peak summertime electricity demand for New York City – assuming full output 24/7/365. The entire 30,000 MW wouldn’t meet New York State’s current peak electricity needs.

However, at 3.6 tons per megawatt, just this Phase 1 offshore wind scheme would require 108,000 tons of copper. At 0.8% metal in an average ore globally, that would involve mining, crushing and processing some 13,000,000 tons of ore, after removing millions of tons of rock to get to the ore bodies!

14-MW Vesta, GE or Siemens-Gamesa turbines stand 815-850 feet above 30-100 foot deep ocean waters (160 feet higher than the Washington Monument). Each blade is 350 feet long. Every turbine weighs in at 2,000-3,000 tons of metals, plastics and composites, plus massive concrete-and-rebar bases. Phase 1 alone will involve tens of millions of tons of materials, billions of tons of ores and overburden.

Add in materials for subsea electrical cables, onshore transmission lines, onshore wind turbines and solar panels, backup battery systems, electric vehicles, electric heating systems and other GND technologies – to run the entire USA – and we’re looking at tens of billions of tons of metals and minerals, trillions of tons of ores, and mines, processing plants and factories all over the world.

Team Biden claims “renewable” energy is “carbon-free.” It gets away with this deception by looking only at electricity generation after turbines and panels are installed – and ignoring how the raw materials are extracted and processed and how the technologies are manufactured … far from the United States … using fossil fuels every step of the way … under minimal to nonexistent laws for air and water pollution control, habitat and wildlife protection, mined land reclamation, child and slave labor, and workplace safety.

Unencumbered by Paris climate treaty restrictions, emerging economies will gladly sell us “green, renewable” technologies that send electricity costs soaring to several times today’s prices and drive factories and industries out of business, unable to compete with China and India.

The past winter’s Texas blackout will become commonplace. Wind electricity generation plummeted 93% – but natural gas generation rocketed 450% to make up the difference, even though pipelines could not supply enough fuel, because legislators and regulators had decreed that pipeline compressors run off the compromised grid, instead of on gas from the pipelines. Under the GND, though, there won’t be any gas generation backup – just freezing jobless in the dark.

Climate czar and private jetsetter John Kerry says unemployed oil and factory workers will get “good jobs” making solar panels. In reality, those jobs will be overseas. Americans workers will only assemble, install, maintain, repair, remove, recycle and landfill imported green tech. American families and businesses will be forced to rip out trillions of dollars of perfectly good gas furnaces, ovens, stoves, water heaters, vehicles and industrial systems – and spend more trillions replacing them with expensive new GND-approved equipment, backup batteries and upgraded electrical systems to handle the extra loads.

And this entire, vastly expanded all-electric world will be expected to function with unreliable, weather-dependent wind and solar power. (All this in a USA where opinion surveys have found the average citizen is willing to pay a minuscule $2-50 per year to reduce US dependence on fossil fuels and (supposedly) keep global average temperatures from rising any higher.)

President Biden’s inability to comprehend these realities may be due to his diminished mental capacity. But it could also be the result of rarely having to exercise his mind – in a political arena where woke, hard-green, climate-obsessed, cancel-culture ideologues permit no discussion, questions or dissent; where advisors, cabinet members, regulators and legislators are of the same mindset, or too timid to speak up; and where schools, news and social media, Big Tech, government agencies, corporate chiefs and even book publishers likewise silence, ignore, punish and banish anyone who offers differing views.

We can only hope enough citizens pound enough sense into our ruling classes to eliminate their belief in MAGIC, climate monsters and other countries crazy enough to follow Mr. Biden into economic suicide.

Minor nitpick, you have two 1s and then a 3rd point.

“Team Biden claims “renewable” energy is “carbon-free.” It gets away with this deception by looking only at electricity generation after turbines and panels are installed…”

To the left, claims don’t have to be right or wrong they just need to “sound” and “feel” right and they will be happy to vote.

Its not a ‘Left’ or ‘Right’ thing it’s a ‘Left’ / ‘Right’ / ‘Center’ stupidity thing!!

Most people on all political sides vote for what they are told “sounds” and “feels” right by the propaganda they follow.

& the AGW propagandists are making all the running.

They control – the media, the language, the purse strings & education;
with that lot under their belts, why should they worry about actual physics & data results ? … these are easily manipulated for sheeple consumption (who are slow to process facts but quick to jump to conclusions & prefer to follow con-sensus therefore absolving themselves of any blame).

The AGW propagandists got it right early on, with the ‘never debate a skeptic’ policy.

We skeptics naively thought that facts & logic would prevail (how dumb was that ! ) so we have to wait for nature to take its course whilst society dismantles itself again, returning to another dark age.

For a highly developed intelligent creature … we are remarkably dumb.

They also control Biden. I think I’m actually starting to feel a bit sorry for him. His wife never should have permitted them to run him in the first place. Mentally he is and has been for some time incapable of rational thought. He signs anything they put in front of him and appoints anyone his “staff” suggests, without noticing the possible effects or even the stark contradictions. His “staff” is so radical they are each trying to “out-radical” the others without even taking the time to talk and make sure their proposals don’t conflict. A simple example is the open borders policy and the Covid-19 policies. While they’re still pushing Covid-19 testing, vaccinations, shutdowns and masks wearing they’re shipping illegals around the country without even testing them first. His administration has become a joke.

“three fundamental Articles of Faith”

Yea brother.

The GND had nothing to do with the changing climate. AOC flunkey, Saikat Chakrabarti, confessed to that; it’s common knowledge.

The only way you can get emissions right down is to outsource all heavy engineering, construction and manufacturing to China, India etc. The UK has done quite a lot of this. Denying workers in a Scottish yard the opportunity of building the turbines for a local project, a Chinese yard will be making them instead.

The Chinese acquired the materials needed and it wasn’t Magic.

Biden is still trying to claim that the sole reason why the number of vaccinations have been increasing is because he’s president. That the rapid ramp up of doses, that started right after the vaccines were approved would never have happened.
One of his deputies even tried to claim that Operation Warp Speed was a Biden program, even though it occurred while Trump was president.

The Democrats are not the first political party to adopt a scientific theory as a political policy plank.

In the 20th century Eugenics became all the rage in America, which eventually led to a Eugenics Registry and thousands upon thousands of forced sterilizations.

Much impressed by results in America, Hitler and the Nazi Party adopted Eugenics as their own. They proceeded to sterilize or kill millions upon millions in rheir quest to create the “Master Race”.

After the war, if was found there had never been any Nazis. Rather all were simply loyal bureaucrats and soldiers following orders, given by a few now deceased politicians.

And in America, it was found that no one had ever been in favor of Eugenics. That it was all just a big misunderstanding. And in case it was the communists that were the problem.

And much the same can be expected as a result of political parties adoping Climate Change as a policy plank. Some extreme policy such as the GND will emerge and the bureaucrats and military will be expected to run with it. Marching orders are marching orders.

Along the way something that was quite predictable will go terribly wrong only now it will be hundreds upon hundreds of millions that will die.

After the fallout settles the survivors will proclaim they never believed in Climate Change and were never in favor of the Green New Deal.

The reason why is simple. Like Church and State, Science and State dont mix. Countless wars and deaths resulted from mixing Church and State before they were separated by Law. How many times will history repeat before we separate Science and State by Law?

Basically, no. Some ‘scientists’ still used it alongside the theories of racial supremacy in eugenics but it had largely fallen out of favour by the 1920’s and 30’s.

You forgot to mention that various organisations and universities in USA and Britain funded eugenics, sterilisation and euthenasia studies/practices in Germany before the war. There were units of both armies eradicating evidence of this and other links between the 3 countries in 1944-6.

Is this what the Americans ‘elected’ Biden for:
The island is stunningly beautiful but extremely basic: no electricity, no running water, no shops, no vehicles or medical help.
Sandford grows as much food as he can; additional supplies come in by ferry. He washes his clothes in a bucket of cold water, and wears layers to protect against the wind that sweeps across the island.
His herbal tea froze in its mug last week, he cheerfully reports.”
There you are, the leader who

.
You can’t persuade someone like Sandford. If the data-supported facts of ‘Climate Change’ were presented to Sandford, he would have to reject them or else admit the last 30 or so years of his life were mostly wasted in the unnecessary hardships of living without electricity. Back in the day we used to have a children’s program here in the UK called, Thunderbirds.
Joe Biden is a direct copy and style of the key stars in that show, they were all wooden string operated puppets.
They all mouthed the words spoken by others. Those others knew what words meant and how to speak in a way that conveyed meaning.
They didn’t ever say “look into my eyes and whether you agree with me or not, I will stop fossil fuel”. Though I do recall some villain or other saying something similar.
Biden seems to have taken his style cues from the father of the Thunderbird characters Jeff Tracy.
The similarities are disturbing.

Hey, I had an idea! (No smart axx remarks, or I will turn all of you into toads.)

Lithium is everywhere on this planet, and I mean everywhere, on land and under water. It is THE most plentiful metallic substance on the planet. Yes, it has to be dug and then separated from the rest of the sludge, but it’s there, and it is a crucial metal in electronics and electric stuff like car batteries.

It is also very poisonous, when disturbed, kind of like a cobra just waiting to strike.

Okay, so if we as individuals or small groups can somehow make the ecohippies and Greenbeaners and others obsessed with “clean, renewable, green” energy that this particular element (and several others if you want to dig them up) is a bad thing and should not be mined or used, along with the rare earths like cobalt (which is usually in jewelry) or neodymium and disprosium, and disposing of them when the electronic gadgets become useless over time and THAT poisons the Earth even more, they might not believe you at first. But then you hand them a copy of your newly-minted “Your Electronics are Poisoning My Planet” and tell them to look it all up for themselves – okay, that’s too long a sentence, but you get the drift.

Even if they’re “woke” walking dead, they might start looking up that stuff and realize they’ve been HAD and are contributing a massive percentage to global pollution of the planet, just based on those reports. 30% won’t care and will toss it, but others might look it over, start doing searches on the elemental metals, and realize they’ve been lied to by professional malefactors.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

Sara,
You are assuming a logical consistency on the part of the alarmists. They can, and do, twist any facts to fit their ideological framework. It is like Biden and the MSM calling Trump xenophobic for curtailing travel from China after the WHO declared COVID-19 an pandemic, and then the MSM says nothing when Biden restricts travel from India. Its almost like a Kafka story.

I know well the incredible effect of “MAGIC” from my career developing and executing engineering projects. Sometimes, when we were developing the project plan for a novel process or facility, and didn’t know how we could achieve key milestones, we’d just write “FM” as a placeholder…….f__ing Magic happens here!

My take is that the hard core Greens favor wind and solar precisely because they cannot support current industrial civilization.
Their favored outcome is some sort of Arcadian Socialism, with the hoi-polloi in mud huts, while the Leninist cadre gets to rule a much smaller population.

Every time these Eco-Nazi idiots talk about “ending fossil fuels,” we should just make that into a new meme by replacing “fossil fuels” with what is provided from the use of fossil fuels.

So the translation of this Biden stupidity: “We’re going to end fossil fuels reliable electricity, central heating, transport, food you don’t have to hunt, kill or grow yourself, clothing, computers, cell phones/telecommunications, and the internet.”

I’m sure we can think up others, but that should (pardon the pun) make a light bulb come on, however dimly, in even some of the “woke” useful idiots.

“China, India and many other countries [..] are not going to “work together” with leaders who expect them to undermine their most vital goals.”

Well, I guess they would, if the science would show solid evidence.
Instead climate sicence is a field where the scientists did not reduce major uncertainties over the last 3 decades basically leaving of conclusions and projections based on assumptions, which are in some parts shown to be unlikely like the 8.5 scenarios)

To some extend climate science seems to be in a frozen state since the hockey stick paper from 1998, which has major issues and is still not corrected or withdrawn. The excuse that there are other papers, does not correct errors in that one and the fact that Mann lied about the folder showing that he knew about the problem from the beginning disqualifies not only him, but is an example for climate scientists bending scientific ethics for the cause!
I am still thinking if a list of questionable scientific behavior would help.. J Curry made her point years ago, that a scientific conclusion needs to include a communication of all uncertainties and this is clearly missing in many climate science publications.

“Team Biden claims “renewable” energy is “carbon-free.””
Of course not!
Anybody trying to make politics with 3 word sentences should also be called out for lying just like the scientists above!
These great simplifiers are not hleping, but part of the problem!

Reality is, that we must try to minimize several parameters here, cost, resources, safety and even CO2 if so inclined and most analysis I have seen point to an energy mix as most reasonable conclusion for almost any big scale scenario

Here in Lockdown, Ontario, Canada (formerly Toronto), we just got our groceries delivered from a major grocery chain.

Last night we got a delivery from Costco.

Now, we would usually go to Costco once a month, to the major chain once every two weeks, but generally picked up things as we needed from our local shops. But so many of them have closed permanently. And we’ve been told to “shelter in place” as much as possible.

We try to support the ones left, but lining up, masking, etc., all the while doing other errands including dog walking, isn’t fun. And with food inflation already hitting, decisions have to be made. Hence the ordering.

We drive a hybrid. None of the delivery vehicles I’ve seen recently are, certainly some (and electrics), but mostly owned by working class folks who don’t have the luxury (and can’t imagine what will happen when fuel inflation hits harder. Right now with an 80 cent dollar, $60 a barrel oil and a pipeline open…soon…60 cent dollar, $90 barrel oil and pipeline closed…)

Materials Acquisition for Global Industrial Change”

Wouldn’t surprise me to see a proposal with this actual title. I wasn’t even sure at first if it was a joke. Poe’s law is in full force.

Team Biden wants to install 30,000 megawatts of wind turbines off America’s Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico and Pacific coasts.

Biden’s coastal ‘fence’ might prove to be an inconvenience to troop ships carrying occupiers to our shores.

At 0.8% metal in an average ore globally, …

Paul, that looks like it is about 2X what a typical porphyry ore body runs;
“According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), as of 2008, the median grade for worldwide deposits (Cu-Au,Cu-only,Cu-Mo) deposits were 0.44% Copper, …”

I suggest that you double your estimate of ore mined to 26,000,000 tons.

And, additionally;
about 1.5 tons of waste rocks and overburden must be removed for every ton of ore grade mined (Phillips and Niemuth, 1993).”

Both the ore, tailings, and waste rock increase volume when crushed. That means if the pit were to be back-filled (which it never is) the resulting mound would be about 30% larger than originally.

Mr Driessen is right on in every respect. The only problem is that he failed to address the big picture. At the same time that Biden and the Greens will be destroying existing fossil fuel infrastructure and wasting trillions of dollars on not so green energy the world will be continuing to make massive advances in development of fusion energy. By the time Biden and company succeed in building a green electrical grid that replaces the existing fossil fuel grid fusion power will be a reality and the world will immediately switch to much cheaper and cleaner fusion power. America will be left with thousands of Bidenvilles, abandoned green energy infrasturcture that is not worth the cost to tear down. Future generations of Americans will look at the decaying hunks of Bidens tens fo trillions of dollars of green energy boondoggle and marvel at the idiocy of mankind.

I’d like to see Mr. Driessen write another article that builds on his MAGIC article and discusses how rapidly advancing fusion technology will displace all current energy sources, both fossil and green, within a few decades and long before a green energy grid can be built.

If pump prices continue their sharp rise along with general inflation, the GOP will surge in the House and Senate, and all these dystopian schemes will collapse. Then Biden can be impeached, which is the New American Way on Capitol Hill.

I now believe this path will not be ended until it is ended by reality. History is full of accounts of leaders pushing their populations into insane endeavours that are doubled down on until collapse ensues. World War 1 comes to mind.

The whole point of evolving a system of bigotry, prejudice and groupthink is to economise on energy spent in figuring stuff out.

Doing what your ancestors did, and going with the crowd works most of the time.

Most of the nonsense our heads are filled with doesn’t impact on personal or species survival.

Some of it, however, does. And converting the West to ‘renewable energy’ will destroy it as a civilisation and a culture, eventually.

The bigger mystery is why the so-called leaders of it, want this to happen…

Yes, we’re seeing the direct influence of such policies here in Europe. The US. and China are mopping up wood, steel, plastics etc… everything they can get their hands on! They also outbid everyone else. Construction wood prices in Germany have doubled to tripled because al the stocks have been shipped out of the country to China via Rotterdam. A lot of home repair companies cannot do their thing, because they have no materials to work with. They can’t even calculate prices in advance for their customers since the prices for wood have become (like oil or gold) the object of huge daily price changes. The same is true for insulation materials.
