Algae blooms are caused by polluted water. Clean water reflects most sunlight but algae evolved to absorb sunlight. Ocean dead zones are similar: The darker water absorbs more sunlight than clean water. Oceans are 75% of the planet surface and direct solar heating is the biggest effect on ocean temperature. The modern world uses the oceans as a convenient toilet. Now even the Ganges has dead zones. These dead zones are caused by water pollution, not CO2.
Ocean surface temperature rise is just one symptom of water pollution. Human water pollution consists of: human biological waste, farm waste, phosphates, nitrates, plastics, garbage, toxic industrial wastes from chemicals to oil, carcinogens, not nice, etc. This water pollution is what causes ocean oxygen depletion, dead zones, acidification, algae blooms, and artificial rising ocean temperature. More efficient treatment of sewage and agricultural runoff is needed even if the population is greatly reduced. Plus conscientious economic ways of handling industrial waste. Perhaps the worst untreatable stuff could go to some badlands if it doesn’t hurt the water table. Using the oceans generally as a toilet is the problem. Cheap, efficient waste disposal and water treatment are desirable.

All geoengineering experiments should first be done in a separate sandbox to isolate the effects of ‘unintended consequences’. Mars awaits.
Should put off some of this foolishness for a couple centuries at least. By then a large enough holodeck could just run simulations. The proponents could watch from inside, with the emergency exit lights turned off.

Part of me thinks this is a stunt by Gates designed to show the world he really believes in global warming and therefore, a carbon tax is needed (where the bulk of the funds flowing into government coffers via carbon taxes would come from the middle class, thereby getting the rich off the hook to be taxed at a higher rate).
As in the case of all scientific research, the several groups and individuals who are working in this field have criticized one another’s experiments and interpretations. This normal scientific interchange has been unduly accentuated by the glare of publicity which has caused some of those concerned to be more dogmatic than is justifiable in view of the present incomplete information.

Dimming the sun will reduce the radiation that humans need to create vitamin D which is vital for an effective immune system. Without the sun being “dimmed” those living in the northern hemisphere are largely Vitamin D deficient which in turn means poor immune systems. Dim the sun and millions of people will have to take supplements every day – check to see if greedy Gates is cunningly busy in the area of making vitamin pills.

However, I thought that the UN convention on biodiversity had a long-standing (non-binding) moratorium on geo-engineering – specifically with regard to climate. This was primarily used to attack the ocean fertilisation experiments which, in fact, appear to have only produced benefits to the marine ecology. Ocean fertilisation is only tenuously described as geo-engineering as some of the increased biological activity was expected to seqester some carbon componds on the sea floor. It would be just as credible to label agriculture as geo-engineering. As for re-forestation, well that is clearly geo-engineering with the aim of affecting bio-deversity! Whereas the Gates plan is geo-engineering for its own sake.

When you add more CO2 on the left side of the equation, there is an irrefutable proportional increase on the right side of production of good things for life. We are not even close to maxing out on those benefits.
