From the man who brought us the “Blue Screen of Death” next will be his “Not So Blue Sky of Death”. What could possibly go wrong?

I see chinas planning weather modding to make the deserts get rain
wonder what the flow on effect in reduced rainfall for areas further over will be? because the rain they normally would get may be dropped elsewhere , low to no cloud etc?

It would be far easier, and safer, if Gates SAYS the project has gone forward, but actually does nothing. He can claim to have “stopped the warming”, while bilking the rest of us out of billions.

Actually Gates has a lot of experience with dampening. Microsoft has decades of experience in slowing down computing power with software overburden.

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it”, is the old saying, and is appropriate here.
The Earth’s atmosphere ain’t broke, Bill Gates. There is no need to fix it.
Before messing with the Earth’s sunlight, you should first establish that Human-caused Climate Change is real. This has never been done, so you are operating on a *huge* assumption, which appears to be easily disproven if all the evidence for the benign nature of CO2 is considered.
In other words: You are going off half-cocked, Bill. You are operating solely on assumptions and assertions from others. This is not a reason to block out the Sun.

Two words “Unintended Consequences”
Any preventive action recommended by the Central Authoritarian Bureaucratic State and the mega wealthy, Blue Bloods and the Nouveau Riche that own them, should scare the shite outta ya.
You know, if say, North Korea were to suddenly announced they were going to block out the sunlight the Earth receives, for one reason or another, there would be war!
The other nations of the world, or at least a lot of them, would not be willing to allow North Korea to experiment with the Earth like that, and I would submit, that they would go to war to stop such an endeavor.
I think Bill Gates will have more trouble than he anticipates if he continues to try to manipulate sunlight.
I hear the Chicoms are planning some large experiments in the Earth’s atmosphere to try to increase rainfall. Going to a real war over the Earth’s climate and human stupidty associated with it, might become more realistic in the future.

Hold on there Lone Ranger, if a couple of degrees rise in temperature can push us over the edge what will a couple of degrees lower do? Dim the Sun, the Sun does that periodically on it’s own! And the lifetime of Gates or any of us is insignificant compared to the Sun.
An education will not necessarily guarantee good judgement and the ability to become very rich in an unrelated field does not guarantee good judgement.

It can be so cheap to accomplish: just stop desulfurizing jetfuel for airliners.

Gates could turn out to be the biggest mass murderer in history.
I saw a presentation at a conference in Rome a few years ago about rigging ships with giant aerosol artillery that would suck up sea water and blast it into the atmosphere to create clouds to block the sun. At some point these clowns need to be given time-outs to ponder the error of their ways.
We need a giant shiny-on-one-side venetian blind that automatically reflects more sunlight as the surface warms. Changing the Planet’s Albedo from .30 to .31 will cool by 1.6 C…..
Oops we already have that, called CLOUDS controlled by the vapor pressure of water at the ocean surface as that surface warms….problem solved.

Well, I’m all for it as long as it does not make our northern latitudes colder or reduce the power coming to our solar panels.

Where is the solar going to come from to power those millions of inefficient solar panels?
Best, by far, argument to question zillions of satellites that attempt to control solar insolation.
At least two or three SF novels last ten years have used the concept of controlling mother nature and then things go wrong. Some hot, some cold, some stormy.

So they dim the light from the sun and a bunch of “unanticipated effects” end up killing a lot of people (likely a cold event). Then they get sued into oblivion. (Except of course it will be our government that implemented the idea and they claim its “just weather”)

The Mannians will quickly see this as unacceptable- it might fix AGW without re-distributing income. Mr. Gates doesn’t understand “the science”; the solution to AGW must include stopping people from doing what they want to do, especially stopping anything prosperous and beneficial to humans. We can’t save the planet without breaking a few eggs, you know. So greens will oppose Gates on this.
Gates may be able to convince them that blocking the sun will indeed increase human misery, and compromise- only disperse the sun-blocker at night. A wildly expensive ineffectual program, that’s the American way!

Gates will never get that far. This is all a pipe dream. Bill has been smoking the good stuff.
At what point does this sort of action constitute a direct and imminent threat to life?
Playing God never works. There is a law of unintended consequences.
I saw a presentation at a conference in Rome a few years ago about rigging ships with giant aerosol artillery that would suck up sea water and blast it into the atmosphere to create clouds to block the sun. At some point these clowns need to be given time-outs to ponder the error of their ways.
Here is an article from 2017 discussing that same idea
https://www.washington.edu/news/2017/07/25/could-spraying-particles-into-marine-clouds-help-cool-the-planet/
The question they should have asked is: Is the planet overheating, requiring drastic measures to fix?
The answer is: No.
Over time, I’ve become increasingly convinced the consequences are not unintended.
I think Baal & Medusa Gates need to f’off and hide. He just keeps painting a bigger bullseye on himself.

Will this extend the ski season?
Brings to mind the so-called ‘cobra effect’.
I don’t see the problem. If it turns out to be an unmitigated Climate disaster just press Ctrl/Alt/Delete and reset the system.
What could go wrong?
The Gates Plan: The rest of us starve in the cold and the dark.
Note to Bill- why not just throw a 10km wide asteroid at a sulfur-rich limestone deposit (Chicxulub, perhaps?)
