The Green New Deal dress rehearsal

The Covid-19 lockdown as a blueprint for a permanent economic shutdown to ‘save the Earth’

Paul Driessen

More than 1.4 million cases of Wuhan Coronavirus and 106,000 deaths in the United States alone have accompanied stay-home lockdowns, businesses bankruptcies, over 40 million unemployed workers, plummeting tax revenues and unprecedented debt. Ongoing rioting, vandalism, arson and looting are compounding problems for many cities and minority communities.

But where many see disaster, others see opportunity. Some want to use the crises to enact laws and welfare programs they could never get otherwise. More ambitious activists see the lockdown as a blueprint or dress rehearsal for a total energy, economic and lifestyle transformation to “save the planet.” If three months of Covid lockdowns can reduce fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions, they argue, permanent fossil fuel bans are possible, essential and should be undertaken immediately.

Five years ago, former UN official Christiana Figueres said the real goal of climate actions was to “intentionally transform the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years” – and replace it with socialist-environmentalist global governance. More recently, she said post-Corona economic stimulus packages should be used to “kick-start” investments “in low-carbon infrastructure projects that will create jobs and put the world on a safer, fairer, more resilient path.” Others want to use climate change as a pretext for dictating how global wealth and resources will be redistributed.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s chief of staff is on the same page. The Green New Deal “wasn’t originally a climate thing at all,” he said in May 2019. It was “a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing.” Presidential candidate Joe Biden and other leading Democrats have endorsed the GND.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres believes “the pandemic could create an opportunity to rebuild the global economy along more sustainable lines.” His environment chief thinks COVID-19 presents “a chance to do capitalism differently.” The UN Green Climate Fund says it “offers an opportunity to direct finances towards bolstering climate action” and “re-launch[ing] economies on low-emission, climate-resilient trajectories,” to control climate and weather and prevent massive extinctions.

In short, echoing former Obama science advisor John Holdren, they want the United States and other modern societies to de-develop and de-industrialize, establish low-consumption life styles that ensure “more equitable distribution of wealth,” and tell poor countries how much “ecologically feasible” development they will be permitted to pursue.

Perhaps most important, these “visionary” ruling elites will be in charge. They will define what is clean, green, renewable, sustainable, ecologically feasible, safer, fairer, more resilient. They will demand less travel, trade and commerce – for the masses. They will live quite well, while telling today’s oilfield and factory workers their industries must disappear and they must be content with minimum-wage jobs installing, maintaining and dismantling wind turbines and solar panels made overseas.

Fans and implementers of Covid-19 lockdowns have been oblivious to the economic, societal and human devastation caused by the lockdowns: not just economic losses, depleted savings and ruined dreams, but millions of cases of depression, drug addiction, alcoholism, domestic violence, obesity, stroke, heart attack, thousands of deaths from these causes, and suicide and murder attributable to the lockdowns.

Add to that millions of future or still uncounted deaths and disabilities from missed biopsies, skipped cancer screenings and chemotherapy, missed early treatments for stroke and heart-attack patients, and organ transplants simply not performed – because “non-essential” medicine was closed down, people lost their health insurance, or patients were afraid to go to clinics and emergency rooms.

Many hospitals, clinics and practices lost so much money that they may have to close their doors. The cumulative long-term impact from that on healthcare, life spans, and death tolls among obese, diabetic, elderly and severely ill patients could be enormous. These human costs will take years to manifest themselves and be calculated. Indeed, the ultimate cost of the lockdown could be worse than the virus.

We still do not have reliable data on Covid infections, cases and deaths – and don’t know whether deaths were due to Corona, or merely associated with the virus and primarily due to age or serious underlying health problems. We don’t even know how many vulnerable elderly people died from Covid complications inflicted on them by decisions by New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and other officials to force nursing homes to accept recovering Corona patients and keep Covid-infected staff working in those facilities.

All this is from lockdowns lasting several months. Suggestions that we “transform” our economy with expensive, unreliable, weather dependent energy – and endure energy, employment, healthcare and other deprivations in perpetuity – border on homicidal insanity. They would postpone or eliminate any economic recovery, result in unimaginable misery and death in now-developed countries – and condemn tens of millions of people in still impoverished nations to horrible suffering, disease, starvation and death.

As to saving the planet and ensuring “ecologically feasible” development, GND energy systems would be vastly more devastating to scenic areas, habitats and wildlife – and to human health and welfare – than any likely effects from manmade portions of future climate changes or weather events.

As Michael Moore’s new film, “Planet of the Humans,” dramatically demonstrates, wind, solar, battery and biofuel technologies are the antithesis of clean, green, renewable and sustainable. Even worse, the ecological devastation it documents is happening in a world that is still 81% dependent on oil, natural gas and coal, 4% on nuclear and 7% on hydroelectric. The impacts and species losses would be orders of magnitude greater if we were 100% dependent on pseudo-renewable energy sources.

Adopting UN-AOC energy prescriptions would require literally millions of 800-foot-tall wind turbines, billions of solar panels, billions of half-ton batteries, thousands of biofuel plantations and clear-cut forests, billions of battery-powered vehicles, and thousands of new and expanded mines to provide tens of billions of tons more metals and minerals. The ecological impacts would reach every corner of every continent. Hundreds of bird, bat, reptile and mammalian species would disappear. Household, hospital, school, business and factory electricity costs would skyrocket. Jobs and industries would vanish.

Those prescriptions would also make the United States enormously dependent on China, not just for medical devices and pharmaceutical components – but for metals, raw materials and component parts needed in wind turbines, solar panels, backup power batteries, and defense, aerospace and high-technology applications. And all that mining and manufacturing, in Asia and other distant lands, would require fossil fuels, at levels far beyond anything seen in history, under minimal to nonexistent pollution, workplace safety and human rights laws, accompanied by prodigious emissions of carbon dioxide.

Fans and implementers of GND transformations are willfully oblivious of these realities. They refuse to discuss them or allow others to discuss them – because to do so would destroy their phony “saving the planet” narrative and quest for total control over our lives, livelihoods, living standards and liberties.

No wonder the UN-AOC-environmentalist crowd went ballistic over Moore’s film. YouTube yanked the movie from its viewing platform, and “mainstream” media, social media, search engines and information sites are now engaging in blatant censorship on climate, energy and environmental issues.

An increasingly activist, liberal media complex also wants to dictate and control what people see, hear, say and think on race relations, medicine and virtually every other political topic. From the NY Times and Washington Post, to Facebook, Twitter, Google, YouTube and Wikipedia, platforms that should be forums for robust debate instead are used to dictate what is true or false, permissible or banned.

US, EU and UN green new deals are just one component of the battle for our future. Corona lockdowns should serve as a bitter taste of what could come – not as a dress rehearsal or blueprint for it.

IMPORTANT: Everyone should watch this video AND re-post it. Lots of highly credible information.

The full-Gulag lockdown was completely unnecessary and that was obvious by early-mid-March. I wrote then:

This full-lockdown scenario is especially hurting service sector businesses and their minimum-wage employees – young people are telling me they are “financially under the bus”. The young are being destroyed to protect us over-65’s. A far better solution is to get them back to work and let us oldies keep our distance, and get “herd immunity” established ASAP – in months not years. Then we will all be safe again.

Why did New York have so many deaths from Covid-19? Because New York Governor Cuomo ordered state nursing homes to take in 4,500 patients with Covid-19, the Associated Press reported. These patients infected other nursing home residents, resulting in many more deaths. Cuomo issued the order to nursing homes and other assisted living centers on March 25, 2020 according to AP. He did not reverse that policy until May 11.

The violent riots over the unfortunate death of career criminal George Floyd were the next act in this saga. Floyd was not a great role model – he had a long criminal record, which included holding a pregnant woman hostage by pointing a shotgun at her belly, but he was all they had – so a false narrative was constructed of what a great guy he was and how all blacks were faced with such horrific police brutality.

Unfortunately, the data did not support that false narrative – in 2019, 1004 individuals were shot and killed by USA police, but only 56 of them were unarmed, and only 15 of those were black (A whole 1.5%!).

It will soon become clear that Antifa are the paid and programmed violent shock troops of the Marxist Democratic Party, and this entire charade was choreographed by the Dems to try to steal the Fall 2020 election.

      • It absolutely makes sense
Left… Plant life with abundant CO2
Right… Plant life with reduced CO2

    • Yep the Green agenda is on the Right hand side.

That is what happens when you deny plant life much needed CO2

      • “deny” plant life much needed CO2?

Thats what you call going from 280ppm to 415? Uh huh, time you quit cut and pasting here sozzled.

          • we need to get to, and call it 420 ….

the 420 crowd likes the 420 concept so much that they will embrace anything associated with it.

even co-opt and expand: “420 is the time to start”

“begin at 420 … don’t stop till 520 … the world will be a better place”

“420 hell, I started at 320 and I ain’t gonna stop till there ain’t no more”

Looking out my window right now I can see nesting Cardinals, several squirrels, a chipmunk, Common Grackles, Robins, and cottontail rabbits, White-throated Sparrows, Mourning Doves, and more trees than I can count – and I live in a city. Maybe you should try leaving whatever hole you call home and get outdoors once in a while, Roid-O – you might discover that the Anthropocene is a wonderful time for life on our planet. A poem:

      His favorite band is Floyd-o.

      Yuck, what is that smell
      here in Hotel Hell?
      Like sour cream gone bad,
      it’s only Loydo!

Thank you and don’t forget the tip jar.

  1. I’ll bet they didn’t see the unexpected consequences it had on gas and oil prices. A policy to reduce fossil fuel consumption makes them an even more economical source of energy than they already are.

  2. While I am certain that many costs of the lockdown will take years to fully recognize, quite a lot of the economy will come back to life soon. The jobs report last Friday was surprisingly bullish. This does not mean that we should pursue anything like this strategy again. Unfortunately it is very difficult to make people see that the enormous expenditures for economic support, and the new debt, plus the rioting which may have happened anyway but which was made worse by forced unemployment and idleness, was not offset by saving a hypothetical number of persons near end of life.

I was not surprised so much by the absurdities and foolishness foisted upon us by our elites. They are idiots after all who believe they know enough to run the lives of eight billion people. I was very surprised by the enormous numbers of people ready and willing to bow, obey, and enforce the absurdities. We need to send as many fools packing in this next election that we can.

    • Kk, viewed from the other side of the Atlantic, that seems like one of the few positives to be drawn from recent events: The diversity of local governance decisions across the US (and elsewhere) has allowed the general public a glimpse of just how stupid, and downright dangerous, many politicians are.

And once again, much of the media is in cahoots with these unsavory people and their autocratic tendencies.

    • ” I was very surprised by the enormous numbers of people ready and willing to bow, obey, and enforce the absurdities.”

I think that is unfair to a whole lot of people.

The People decided to socially distance themselves when the level of danger from the Wuhan virus was unknown, and after knowledge was gained and the Wuhan virus was seen to be not as deadly as feared, then the People changed the social distancing and went back to work, excepting those States with totalitarian, deluded Democrat leaders who started trying to use the power of the State to enforce lockdowns when it is no longer necessary.

Just because people cooperated in social distancing doesn’t mean they are sheep. When the sheep wanted to go back to work, they went back to work, and if some Democrat governor put obstacles in their way, then they sued the Democrat governor for abuse of power and won. That doesn’t sound like sheep-like action to me. It sounds like reasonable, knowledgeable people doing what is best for them at the time.

  3. I don’t remember how many weeks ago it was that I suggested the COVID lockdowns were a dress-rehearsal for the Green New Deal, nor do I think I was the first to suggest it; that doesn’t matter. What DOES matter is that enviro-fascists have seized on the virus as an opportunity to see just how far they can go in ordering people around, and they will fully exploit whatever they learn from the experiment–which is entirely separate from the necessary public health response to a communicable disease nobody has ever seen before.

    • I agree David – this whole Covid-19 full-Gulag lockdown did not make sense – it stinks!

      From my post below:
The open question is “Were the Covid-19 “experts” utterly incompetent, or were they deeply and widely corrupt?” How did they get it so wrong? WAS THAT A DELIBERATE SCAM?

It seems improbable that any rational professional person could be this stupid for this long– it was a fairly easy call from early-March2020 data that Covid-19 was only dangerous to the elderly and infirm – so protect them (over-protect) and only them!

I have this nagging feeling that we have all been run down an ever-narrowing cattle chute – subjects in a human-conditioning process run by wolves to stampede the sheep. The conduct of Dr. Falsi seems bizarre, or intentionally destructive. The devious motivations of Democratic governors who resist easing the lockdown is more than obvious.

Something stinks about this whole lockdown debacle – I repeat, how could any rational person be this stupid for this long?

I posted a Covid-19 summary weeks ago, included below. Willis and I independently called this Covid-19 illness and lockdown correctly on 21March2020. The point is not that we are so smart – the point is it was not that difficult to get it right, and two non-experts in the field did so and were confident enough to publish.

At the same time, the so-called epidemiology “experts” with their models got it totally wrong, and wasted trillions of dollars and harmed billions of lives with their needless full-Gulag lockdown.

      • I have found that my interest in many issues has grown by reading less opinions of pundits and more those of non-experts who use their common sense (which is not too common , regrettably).

      • The attached link is worth a look with respect to the COVID event. The narrative is out there, it is just not being reported since that would expose the string-pullers.

While there is a lot of expressed concern about humanity, it belies the self-serving psychopaths agenda. Is it a stretch? Think about who’s voices were valued by main stream media in response to the event.

          https://youtu.be/X6pzXrEBqR0

We have known for decades that runaway global warming/ dangerous human-made climate change were false crises, concocted by scoundrels to promote a totalitarian agenda.

It is increasingly apparent that the Covid-19 full-Gulag lockdown was unnecessary – a deliberate scam to cause a global Great Depression.

This video makes it clear that the objective of these scams is global socialist governance, with a few kings – absolute monarchs – looking down at all the poor peasants.

The protagonists of this plot are committing crimes against humanity. It is time for Nuremberg trials and appropriate severe punishments for the perpetrators – for treason.

          • “Covid-19 full-Gulag lockdown was… a deliberate scam to cause a global Great Depression.”
            “…time for Nuremberg trials…”

This sort of stuff goes unchallenged around here these days? Whatever next?

“The events that erupted in Minneapolis, Minnesota were not a spontaneous reaction to the murder of George Floyd. These were well planned events anticipating some perfect trigger point to bring about the “new normal” – a world without police, without borders, without industry, without wealth, without private property, without an economy – a world based on communist ideals imbedded within the Green New Deal.

The Green New Deal is not about climate change, it is about climate justice – a radical new ideology hellbent on destroying western civilization under the false pretense that white supremacy is the leading cause of climate change, social injustice and all problems globally.”

This was only the fourth major conclusion that I have published outside my professional career expertise – and the other three, on climate-and-energy, were made after ~17 years of study – this conclusion, my fourth, was studied for only a few weeks. I did not publish my conclusions lightly – I was highly confident.

The open question is “Were the Covid-19 “experts” utterly incompetent, or were they deeply and widely corrupt?” How did they get it so wrong? WAS THAT A DELIBERATE SCAM?

The full lockdown was unnecessary – instead, we should have over-protected the elderly and infirm and everyone else should have taken reasonable precautions and carried on with their jobs.

Instead, we did the exact opposite. Some states like New York and the UK even adopted policies that selectively exterminated their elderly and poor. This made no sense. Whatsupwiththat?

        MY ASSESSMENT OF COVID-19 – MID-MARCH, 2020 –CORRECT-TO-DATE

I examined a large amount of data on Covid-19 starting in late January 2020. Much of the data was of poor quality, with several exceptions. For example, the Diamond Princess cruise ship in Yokohama provided excellent data on the morbidity/mortality of Covid-19 for different age groups – it had little or no effect on the majority younger healthier population, but was highly dangerous to the old and infirm. That was my confident conclusion by mid-March. I published that the full-lockdown was NOT necessary on 21-22Mar2020 and events have shown that to be correct.

I was delayed for months by a national newspaper and then turned down at the last minute. Trudeau bought the loyalty of the press.

THE LIBERALS’ COVERT GREEN PLAN FOR CANADA – POVERTY AND DICTATORSHIP

        https://wattsupwiththat.com/2019/10/01/the-liberals-covert-green-plan-for-canada-poverty-and-dictatorship/
        [excerpt]

A highly credible gentleman wrote me as follows, concerning his recent conversation with an Ottawa insider.

The insider, he said, had been working on an advisory group to the Trudeau government. The group was not formed to discuss policy for the 5 year horizon that governments are usually interested in but to develop policies for the further future, 20 to 40 years out. The implication was that the group had concluded that the present economic model was flawed and had to be replaced. “Unregulated consumerism was unsustainable and people would have to learn to make do with less. The government would have to have more control over people to enforce their austerity and the wealth of developed nations would have to be redistributed to help undeveloped nations.”

These are not new ideas. For decades, intellectuals and politicians have argued that our consumer society, based on individual market demand, is a flawed system that generates waste, excess and environmental degradation.

The insider’s assessment also reflects the current underlying motivation behind the rise of climate change as the defining issue of our time. The words reflect the motives of environmentalists and climate activists who are using the climate “emergency” as a front for larger political and ideological ambitions. What they are pursuing as an economic revolution ushered in through the back door. They are yelling fire and then using the resultant fear to impose a new economic and political order.

  4. Thanks for the warning. I”m going to go bang my head on the nearest wall, and try to get my ears to stop ringing.
I sincerely hope that the wackos who want to destroy everything that really matters and keeps them warm and cozy and well-fed get a taste of their own medicine some day. That is all. I’ve seldom seen people as eager to destroy what really works as these idiots.

  5. New York City all by itself is responsible for 20% of the US Covid-19 deaths.
Add the states of New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts and together they are accountable for as many Covid-19 deaths as the ENTIRE rest of the country combined.
Just what is their special talent??
    Besides being BLUE.

Over 80% of the Covid-19 deaths occurred in the 65+ population.
Japan leads the globe with 65+ at 27% yet has not accumulated even 1,000 Covid-19 deaths.
What do the Japanese know and do that the rest of the world does not?

And as long as the lying, fact free, fake news MSM chooses to lie about how contagious Covid-19 is (Data says it isn’t!!) and lethal (Data says it isn’t.) and hang it all on Trump instead of looking behind NYC’s BLUE incompetent curtain the country’s economic misery will continue.
But then screwing over the country to get Trump is the MSM’s narrative.

    • “New York City all by itself is responsible for 20% of the US Covid-19 deaths.
Add the states of New York, New Jersey and Massachusetts and together they are accountable for as many Covid-19 deaths as the ENTIRE rest of the country combined.
Just what is their special talent??”

That’s a darn good question. Why was this area hit harder by the Wuhan virus than any other area in the United States?

I concluded in writing on 21-22March2020 that there was no justification for the full lock-down, but an obvious need to over-protect the elderly and infirm. Countries that did so did very well.
        https://www.euromomo.eu/graphs-and-maps

In contrast, New York State Governor Cuomo did the exact opposite and eliminated multitudes of New York’s high-risk population. Cuomo mandated that nursing homes must accept coronavirus patients even though older people are the most at-risk to die from COVID-19 – Yes, really!

Donald Trump was initially correct but was persuaded to change by his advisers. He wisely left the lockdown decision to the Governors, a few of whom actually got it right, but many more chose full-lockdown. Democrats in the USA love to abuse their powers – many are covert Marxists – that’s how they roll. Now the Dems are extending the lockdown to try to harm the economy – and Trump’s chances of re-election.

What really happened in many cities was a disaster – hospitals were emptied of patients, elective surgeries were cancelled, and then the hospitals were near-empty for ~8 weeks awaiting the “tsunami of Covid-19 cases“ THAT NEVER ARRIVED. Now there is a huge backlog of medical cases that will take many months to clear, and some patients will pass awaiting treatment… and the economy is trashed, and low-income people are too, and small businesses are destroyed, and their employees are as well, and… and… and…

The full-Gulag lockdown was an unnecessary debacle.

    • Plain and simple. Japanese obesity rate is %3.7, Us is %38. Japan has the lowest obesity rates by far, of all industrialized countries.

    • Nick asked:

What do the Japanese know and do that the rest of the world does not?

No where near as much as Taiwan – 7 deaths; 0.3/Mpop. Or even Australia – 102 deaths; 4/Mpop. Compared to Japan 7/Mpop.

There was no rocket science involved. Order of priority:
      1. Close borders.
      2. Fast, effective testing for COVID19 and quarantine those testing positive.
      3. Fast, effective contact tracing for ant positive test.

That is all that is required. Get those three done well and nothing else matters. Countries like USA and UK that failed on priority #1 had to establish individual quarantine within the community. Australia also quarantined the community but the most effective action was closing borders. Australia’s largest State in area even set up internal borders with four separate regions.

  6. We shut down the economy, dropped Anthropogenic CO2 significantly and yet the total co2 is highest eveh. Back to the caves where 90% of us are dead, but Paul Driessen is alive and well enjoying fruits of his labour. Himmler will be proud.

  7. Go back in recent history, the 1029 crash on Wall Street. Thia resulted in 10 years of slow growth, only endin g as the needs for a coming war caused businesses to prepare for that war. .

Expect a near repeat with right wing governments . Even before the virus t. the increase of Islamic migration was a [part of this.

As for the n greens and other “Causes” they will be swept away./ The idea of further sacrifuces in a attempt to prevent a possible problem in the far future will be ended.

      • An example of a right wing system would be Corporate Feudalism.
( a factory town where housing, shops, police, clinic and school are all provided by the Corp. )

        • Corporate feudalism? And this is the right wing?
The only right wing is ever shrinking capitalism that gave a chance to people like me. Through my hard work I achieved financial independence in Australia in 10 years, after 20 years of living under socialist hell in Poland between 1960 and 1981.
Another Wikipedia warrior that knows everything.

        • “Corporate Feudalism.
( a factory town where housing, shops, police, clinic and school are all provided by the Corp. )”

That reminds me of Tennessee Ernie Ford singing “Sixteen Tons of Number Nine Coal”.

“Another day older, and deeper in debt. I owe my soul to the company store.”

I think his song was the first song I ever learned the words to, listneing on the radio, when I was about five years old. I actually understood what he was saying and his point. It was a protest song. A lament.

        • How is that right wing?
Having government control everything is every left wingers dream.

As long as the workers have a right to quit and leave, it isn’t feudalism. You really need to learn what the terms you use, mean.

    • We are living in the age of green corporate socialism where people want something for nothing. Where is that right wing that u on about? U looking for fascist and Nazis under beds now like a typical Antifa or just another know it all armchair historian?
Capitalism is not responsible for slow downs. It is the accessible regulations and government borrowings that do that. Just ask Obamer for 10 trillion $ tab and Roswelt that borrowed like a drunkard sailor that killed any post 1929-1933 recovery.

      • “Right wing” and “left wing” have no real meaning any more, spot on, and anyone using those terms is showing how out of the loop of present reality they are.

There are insane Fascist wannabes, from the mega-wealthy elites and the Democrats to their Antifa cat’s-paws on down, and there are rational people who just want something resembling security and prosperity for themselves and their descendants, and who are rightfully concerned the former might take power and never let it go again.

    • “Go back in recent history, the 1029 crash on Wall Street. Thia resulted in 10 years of slow growth, only endin g as the needs for a coming war caused businesses to prepare for that war.”

The economy in the United States and the World was in really bad shape in 1929. That’s why it took so long to recover.

The economy of the United States and the World was about the best it has been in a long time, probably in all time for the United States. We had a booming economy in February 2020, and then that economy was put on pause which cause the layoff of some 40 million workers.

The recovery of the current economy will be quick, as can be seen by the 2.5 million jobs that were added to the U.S. economy last month. These numbers will continue month after month as the U.S. economy gets back up to speed.

There is NO comparison between the economic situation in 1929 and the economic situation of today.

I expect the U.S. economy to be fuly back to normal by the beginning of next year, if not before. If any kind of effect treatment or vaccine is produced, it will just speed up the recovery.

      We are coming back strong.

      • If Biden wins and the Democrats take the Senate, you can expect them to do everything in their power to turn the current slowdown into another Depression.
Taxes and government regulations turned a bad recession into the Depression.

      • It took so long because of horrible government interventions such as the Agricultural Adjustment act, the Smoot-Hawley tariffs, The National Recovery Act, the tripling if taxes between 1933 and 1940, and a host of other bad policies.

    • “Go back in recent history, the 1029 crash on Wall Street. Thia resulted in 10 years of slow growth, only endin g as the needs for a coming war caused businesses to prepare for that war. ”

That’s very much a Keynesian (and Common Knowledge) view. Keynes thought make work projects would stimulate the economy and make everyone richer, even if they produced no wealth or value by invoking some magical “animal spirits. IOW, taking away those men’s backhoes and giving them spoons to dig with would make everyone richer.

A different, more predictive view is that getting involved in WWII forced FDR to reduce the suffocating regulations of the New Deal that prolonged the Great Depression and slightly unleashed individuals.
See *New Deal or Raw Deal?: How FDR’s Economic Legacy Has Damaged America* for a book-length exposition.

We saw a similar dynamic of reducing regulation leading to economic growth with Ronald Reagan and Donald Trump in the US and Maggie Thatcher in Great Britain.

  8. I still find it so weird that Obama and his Canadian wannabe boy Trudeau ( along with numerous others) don’t live the lifestyle they preach! What’s with that? No leading by example? Oh that poor stuff and misery is only for others you say.
Go to hell the lot of you power mongering doom prophets, you’re pathetic lying hypocrites and as for the useful idiots like Loydo good riddance. No scientific knowledge whatsoever is required to see the evil intent of this massive power play. Really sad people like you don’t get it, or are you planning to live off the backs of the serfs in the new world order?

  9. Good read Paul. We live in interesting and frankly perilous times. The Minneapolis city council voted to dismantle the police department today.

    • That has democratic success written all over it, like de Blasio and Cuomo’s brilliant idea to lock up the healthy people, release the criminals and send sick folks to nursing homes full of vulnerable seniors.

Next up, I can hear creepy Joe say, “Here’s the deal, we get the green and you get jack.”

      • De Blasio is a disaster.

He’s the poster-boy for the deluded, leftist way of looking at the world. All emotion, no thinking. That way of looking at the world is useless in a crisis. In fact, it is counterproductive. One needs to dwell in the Real World in order to make the right decisions in a crisis. Leftists do not dwell in the Real World. That’s the problem.

De Blasio is so deluded, he still thinks all his decisions were good ones.

    • They might as well save the money; they refused to let their police work like a police firce anyway! The faster some of these reality-oblivious city council members see how “society” functions without law and order, the sooner they’ll have second thoughts! Of course, by then it might be too late but, oh well–we’ll just call it the Minneapolis Wilderness and pass a new Homestead Act! /s

      • Actually Detroit is an example of public policy failure. After years of out migration the police force has been reduced to those who can’t get a job else ware and will not respond to pleas for help in most areas of the city.

    • “The Minneapolis city council voted to dismantle the police department today.”

Josef Stalin would be proud of them. Undermining the Police is a communist tactic used to gain power over the populace.

Communists, like the Black Lives Matter leaders, are attempting to destroy the United States, and the first step is to remove the Police from the equation.

Let’s call this what it is. It’s communism. It’s purpose is to destoy the United States, it’s not to help with the racial issue. The racial issue is just the vehicle these radical communists are using to forward their destructive agenda.

  10. The socialist democrat abetted rioting and looting, without even a pretense of ‘socialist distancing’, succeeded in convincing Americans the chinese virus ‘lock downs’ were a Fauci fraud and to buy another 2 million guns with ammunition for personal protection, ala The 2nd Amendment.

It’s going to be real hard to run a fraud like this again in the USA! This was a wake up call, not the dry run the socialists had hoped for.

    • J Mac
Maybe it is a wake up call but so far the MEDIA is winning the war. The media has made the current crisis a success for the DNC. One death has overwhelmed thousands.

      • Terry,
Your hypothesis may hold true in the core of the big ‘blue cities’, but it does not hold true in main street and rural America. The multiple frauds are exposed and the anger/resentment is coming to a slow, steady boil. The heart of resolute America despises lies…..

      • “One death has overwhelmed thousands.”

I must say, I’m proud to be an American.

With all the turmoil and crisis we have faced in the past few months, with a few exceptions, Americans have acted peacefully and lawfully, even in the face of George Floyd’s horrific death.

And the police and U.S. military have shown remarkable restraint in the handling of the riots caused by extremists trying to hijack the outrage people feel over George Floyd’s death.

I believe that George Floyd’s brother also had a big effect on the attitude of a lot of people when he appealed to people to not destroy things in the name of his brother. The mood of the moment seemed to change to a more peaceful direction after he did so. And God Bless him for that.

The American people have stood the test. Seeing all these groups, from the police to the military to the doctors and nurses and the store clerks stocking food for us, and the delivery drivers bringing what we need, and all the other countless, unknown contributors to all our welfare doing what they do is wonderful. I can’t say I am surprised, because I expected Americans to respond well, but I am gratified to see just how many good people there are in this nation (and I think this applies to most other nations, too. They have stepped up, too). Humans are resilient if given a chance.

So I’m proud to be a citizen of the United States. Always have been, and now, even more so.

We have a lot of turmoil in our future, mainly because the Democrats still hold some political power and still control the Leftwing Media, but I think this next election is going to fix a lot of that.

Until then, expect only Hate and Divisiveness from the Democrats. One of these days we’ll shut them up and shut them out. Who wants to listen to hatemongers all the time? Not me.

  11. Sometimes you see a statistic that knocks you on your ass.

There is an Officer Down Memorial Page. So far this year in America there have been 97 line of duty deaths. The major killer of officers so far in 2020 … COVID19 with 41 deaths.

    • Based on how mortality numbers are openly inflated in the US, it boggles my mind how anyone takes those numbers seriously.

        • Obviously they died in a hospital and not on the job. What did they die of? My guess would be that since most were overweight, they were comatized with organ/brain destroying drugs so they could be intubated almost as soon as they walked in the door, because 1) hospital policy changed during this panic-demic to intubate patients early because hospital administrators/doctors don’t want to risk health worker exposure to aerosolized virus, and 2) less invasive ventilation and prone positioning obese patients requires much more manpower and work than simply turning them into vegetables and putting them on ventilators. Add to this wondrous mix toxic anti-viral drugs that damage the liver and do nothing for patient recovery (because doctors don’t know what the hell they’re doing), which causes patients to remain on ventilators for weeks, instead of days, and eventually they succumb to all of the abuse.

  12. Though it lasted fewer than four years, World War II was the most expensive war in United States history. Adjusted for inflation to today’s dollars, the war cost over $4 trillion and in 1945, the war’s last year, defense spending comprised about 40% of GDP. Can you imagine what this cost the entire planet all around the entire world?

This last 3 months has already cost the USA much more than it spent it WW2, and the only thing to re-build is a bunch of burnt out and looted stores. A least in a real war, there is a lot of economic activity to re-build everything, such as Europe or Japan etc. Now for the most part we are just left holding the bag. And based upon some scary models. Mmmm, where we heard that before?

    • Fortunately, private capital will have to rebuild the burnt-out and looted stores.

But from the COVID-19 lockdown places like Las Vegas and Reno will never be the same. Expect about half the big casinos to fold. Harrahs-Reno has already said it will not re-open. Just the first of many. New Jersey boardwalk casino industry will likely shutdown to a relic of what it was.

Southern Florida tourism and cruise industry are decimated. If Disney World and Universal Studioes now allows only half the number of visitors for the next few years, then ticket prices will more than double to make up for the lost revenue. That means those places become more exclusive. Ski destinations like Aspen and Davos will become even more exclusive to the rich and elitists, as prices there will rise dramatically to offset lower numbers of visitors. The ripple effects will go through through the entire economy.

Places like outdoor camping and lake-campgrounds as being more affordable vacations will become more popular than ever.

  13. On an average day in 2019, an average of 8,025 deaths occur.
That means 106,000 deaths are the usual for 2 weeks.

  14. Dramatic spikes in auto traffic around major hospitals in Wuhan last fall suggest the novel coronavirus may have been present and spreading through central China long before the outbreak was first reported to the world, according to a new Harvard Medical School study.

  15. I hope thaat I am wrong, but at age 93 I have seen a lot of boom and bust economies.

Ask yourself this question, what will our standard of living be like when we have to pay all of the loans off. The interest alone will cripple us..

This is what faced Hitler when he came to office. He solved it by refusing to pay it. In return the financial community in New York punished him.

Indirectly that may have led to WW2.

Also ask yourself where is this “Cheap”” money coming from, I suspect it may
    be Chin a.

    • You seem to be surprised that bankers would refuse to support someone who had defaulted on loans.
      Banks aren’t charitable organizations.

As to WWII, that was Hitler’s goal all along.

  16. I prefer to call it the Great Greenie-Weenie Raw Deal (GGWRD). More accurate, and has a nice ring to it.

  17. BREAKING: NYPost
New Zealand declares coronavirus ‘eliminated’, lifts most restrictions

At least there is some small patch of the World that isn’t polluted by the Chinese.

  18. The Australian June 8 2020 reports-

‘Victoria Police closed a popular Mornington Peninsula pier over concerns that locals and visitors were not “observing social-distancing requirements” just two days after thousands marched through the streets of Melbourne without penalty.
People would be “moved on” if they visited Rye pier and more local attractions would be shut if social-distancing was not observed, the police later said.’

You’d just hang a BLM placard on your fishing rod and claim Rona Regs immunity wouldn’t you?

  19. From the article: “But where many see disaster, others see opportunity. Some want to use the crises to enact laws and welfare programs they could never get otherwise. More ambitious activists see the lockdown as a blueprint or dress rehearsal for a total energy, economic and lifestyle transformation to “save the planet.”

Yes, the radical Democrats think they see an opportunity to overturn the status quo, which would be a disaster for everyone concerned.

They have started rolling out prominent Washington DC swamp critters like Mitt Romney and Colin Powell to say they will not support Donald Trump’s election in November.

Now think about this. Both Mitt Romney and Colin Powell now know for certain that the Obama-Biden administration tried to undermine the U.S. Constitution by using the Power of the State to generate false accusations against Trump in order to cause him to lose the last election, and if that failed, then to undermine his administration.

So Romney and Powell hate Trump so much that they would rather turn the nation over to Biden and the other criminals that tried to steal the last election. There can be no doubt the Obama-Biden administration was a criminal enterprise, but Mitt and Colin would rather have them stealing the country than them voting for Trump.

How delusional are these people? I would submit VERY delusional.

Trump is the conservative’s dream president. Everything he has done is what a good conservative would want done. Trump’s conservative creditials are spectacular. But that’s not enough for Mitt and Colin, who apparently don’t like Trump’s style, and I guess that trumps everything for them.

It just goes to show that smart people can be very stupid at times. Or perhaps they are just very suspectible to outside leftwing propaganda. Same thing, I guess.

Either way, they are delusional and there is no reasoning to their position. It’s based on an emotional reaction, not on the facts on the ground.

Mitt is just lucky his term doesn’t come up for a vote until after November. He won’t be a U.S. Senator after his next election.

Colin Powell, of course, supported Hillary Clinton during the 2016 elections, so it’s not much of a stretch for him to support Biden. EXCEPT, that now we know just what kind of criminals the Obama-Biden administration are, so how can you vote for a bunch of criminals to run this country, Colin? Don’t you care about the future of the nation? How could you if you want to turn it over to proven criminals? It boggles the mind.

  20. “If three months of Covid lockdowns can reduce fuel use and greenhouse gas emissions, they argue, permanent fossil fuel bans are possible, essential and should be undertaken immediately”
If 8 hours of sleep makes me feel rested imagine inducing a permanent coma. Man totally refreshing.

  21. It is not about the climate it has never been about the climate it is about replacing the Western world with a socialist / communist government.
Five years ago, former UN official Christiana Figueres said the real goal of climate actions was to “intentionally transform the economic development model that has been reigning for at least 150 years” – and replace it with socialist-environmentalist global governance
This is what it really about.
