Alarmists Propose Rebranding ‘Climate Change’ for Greater Shock Value

Climate Change, Climate Weirding, Climate Destruction, CLIMATE EMERGENCY!

And now, our new and improved….

From Breitbart

Climate change alarmists are pushing for a change in vocabulary to scare people into taking global warming more seriously, starting with terms like “global meltdown” and “climate collapse.”

Writing for AdAge this week, Aaron Hall argues that in order to get people to “take action” against climate change, “rebranding” is crucial, since people have gotten too used to the idea that climate is changing and need to be shocked into the notion that the world as we know it is ending.

Aaron steps up the rhetoric, up to eleven!

What he and his marketing team came up with was a series of much more frightening labels to stick on climate change in the hope of jolting people into meaningful engagement.

The terms “Global Meltdown” or “Global Melting,” for instance, deliver a more negative image than mere “Global Warming,” he contends. “The names signal that ice caps are melting, but also create a more visceral image in the mind — that real feeling of ‘melting’ when it’s too hot outside. A meltdown is a disastrous event that draws from the ultimate terror of a nuclear meltdown, an apt metaphor for global destruction.”

“Climate Collapse” and “Climate Chaos,” on the other hand, “instill a clear message or even a direct call to action,” Hall notes, adding that “there’s nothing neutral about collapse or chaos.”

To up the rhetoric even more, Hall proposes the weaponized term “Scorched Earth.”

Of course Mr Hall feels no shame.

Mr. Hall’s contention that it does not matter if what is said is true as long as it elicits the necessary response is reminiscent of similar assertions by leaders of the Extinction Rebellion (XR) movement.

Thomas Williams of Breitbart warns of the the opposite occurring.

While it is clearly true that “alarmist language works” in some cases, it is also true that people tend to resent being lied to and manipulated.

Like Aesop’s fable of the Boy Who Cried Wolf, climate alarmists may wake up one fine day to find that nobody believes them anymore.

Climate Extortion. Call it what it is…

“Climate Nihilism.” I’d copyright it except that climate elites wouldn’t understand it; I’m not sure I do. Anyway, it’s a little out there and wouldn’t focus group well. Better to stick with something that doesn’t require thinking, like the “5Fs.”

Commenters so far have done well. Keep it up. Humor is powerful to beat this nonsense.

You have to realize that the fossil fuel industry must play both sides of the fence. They can’t afford to alienate a large contingent of virtue signalers.

A consumer with a guilty mind is still a consumer.

He can even buy carbon compensation which I’m sure require fossil fuel use too.

Sooooo, the UN IPCC is a fossil-fuel lobby group?? Obama was a fossil fuel lobbyist??

Wow. With each comment you make, you look more and more stupid.

I suggest we go back to Anthropogenic Global Warming.

It sounds so much more educated and sophisticated.

“Extinction Rebellion” sounds so outré and banal.

“Global melting” makes me think that the solid Earth is melting, as if the very ground under our feet will turn to lava.

“Climate collapse” and “Climate chaos” have the disadvantage that people can walk outside and see that everything is normal.

This rebranding effort has a notable flaw. In the capitalist USA, people are accustomed to the concept of rebranding, that is, giving the same old thing an exciting new name so people will pay attention to it again. People are also accustomed to hype, and to charlatans making exaggerated claims about things they’re trying to sell.

The Grauniad got caught out doing this a few months ago when an internal diktat was leaked, showing how they now insist an (even more) alarmist lexicon is used by their hacks: Climate Crisis or Climate Emergency, instead of Climate Change; Global Heating, instead of Global Warming; etc.

It really is appalling. What’s even worse is that the Grauniad’s alarmist lexicon has leaked out and is now in use by all the usual suspects in the MSM, such as PuffHo, The Monologue and AljaBeeba.

I can’t wait for this rotten old hoax to implode.

I used the “Boy who cried wolf” analogy regarding climate apocalypsism on WUWT just the other day. There’s a saying that originates in the Bible that goes something like “And to everything there is a season…” that applies to lots of things, including scams like Climate Change. Eventually, the scam runs its course and a “tipping point” is reached when more people recognize it for what it is than for what it is purported to be. There are no Nigerian princes doling out huge sums of money. The Brooklyn Bridge is not for sale. There is no ocean view property for sale in Arizona. Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant.

The beauty of the Climate Change scam is its impenetrability. Nobody understands how the earth’s climate works. Even with all our computers, satellites, and fancy Star Trek gadgetry, we cannot predict the weather, much less climate, with reliable accuracy. We settle for percentages, knowing that even with only a 10% chance of rain tomorrow we’d still better pack an umbrella. Weather forecasts got more accurate with satellite imagery because forecasters could actually SEE the clouds moving over vast regions of the earth’s surface and correlate that movement with other data, like temperature and barometric pressure.

We are a lot better at predicting the weather now than, say, 50 years ago. But we are nowhere near predicting the weather with certainty. That’s because weather is very complicated, like life itself. Since most of us are too busy with the day-to-day demands of living to take on the task of weather prediction ourselves, we leave it to the “experts” to do the predicting for us. And we’ve learned to take their predictions with a grain of salt because we know, from experience, that they are often wrong. But we never attributed erroneous predictions of weathermen to their vanity or greed.

Times are different now. Broadcast news is 24/7/365 and highly competitive. Fair weather is boring. Hurricanes, tornadoes, and floods sell ad space. The adage “If it bleeds, it leads” is as true today as it was a century ago. That’s why every tropical storm is breathlessly reported upon and updated every 10 minutes. Scaring people sells ad space.

How many times has a hurricane been touted as “the worst since Katrina” in the past 5 years, and shown to be on track to devastate Louisiana or Florida only to sputter out in the middle of the Atlantic or make landfall as a Category 1 or less? We’ve grown accustomed to these “errors” in forecasting. Those of us who live in coastal areas know from experience that hype exceeds reality. We know it’s hype because we’ve seen it play out, time and again. We can’t ignore the warnings completely, but we know – again, from experience – that a certain amount of the information is presented in a manner intended to attract attention and sell ad space.

The point is that weather reporting is not strictly informational. There are other, more HUMAN, factors at work. Climate reporting is no different. Never underestimate the power of greed or vanity. After all, who doesn’t want to be rich and famous?

Dear Greta Thunberg,

if you had hired the clipper Stad Amsterdam instead, you would now be in Spain.

The sad thing is that you will not make it to Madrid before the climate has killed our planet. You will notice the end is very near in about one day, when the wind turns against you at about 15 knots.

Greta, you did a good job of inspiring lots of young people to have fun Fridays, before we all go extinct within a blink of an eye.

We are in Climate Kill Mode, You came too late, but thanks for your effort.

The Alarmist Numpties are just going by the old adage that when you are in a hole, dig faster, and rebranding is their way of coming up with a new, better shovel.
So bravo, Climate Numpties. Keep digging. You’ll get there. We’re counting on you.
