Invasion of the lifestyle snatchers

Lately, some op-eds have been questioning whether Greta Thunberg is simply a mindless puppet.

WITH cold, hard eyes, Greta Thunberg jabs a finger forward – like Lord Kitchener in the famous “Your country needs you” wartime posters.

The Sun featured this GQ cover, and the parallel to the famous end scene of “Invasion of the Body Snatchers” immediately jumped out at me.

In the Sun article they say:

And Greta began to pressure her family to change their lifestyles.

Svante, 50, and Malena turned vegan and bought an electric car, and in 2016 Greta convinced her mother to stop flying, which impacted her singing career.

Malena went on to back the “flight-shaming” movement that started in Sweden a year later.

Even some normally over the top climate scientists are starting to doubt her.

Much more scientific than “I think therefore I am”.

Lyndon Johnson was the President during the Vietnam War. The Vietnam War Memorial was dedicated NOVEMBER 13, 1982, honoring 58,000 American troops who died. U.S. forces inflicted over a million enemy fatalities, essentially wiped out the Viet Cong as a fighting force during the TET Offensive debacle, yet involvement by politicians forfeited our victory. North Vietnamese colonel, Bui Tin, received the unconditional surrender of South Vietnam on April 30, 1975.

Bui Tin explained how the protests by “anti-war peace demonstrators” (the most successful propaganda program ever operated by the Soviet Union and its Eastern Bloc allies) was key to the Communist “victory”:
“Every day our leadership would listen to world news over the radio at 9 a.m. to follow the growth of the American antiwar movement …
… Visits to Hanoi by people like Jane Fonda and former Attorney General Ramsey Clark and ministers gave us confidence that we should hold on in the face of battlefield reverses …
… We were elated when Jane Fonda, wearing a red Vietnamese dress, said at a press conference that she was ashamed of American actions in the war and that she would struggle along with us.”

After the war, Bui Tin became vice chief editor of the Communist Party’s official newspaper in Vietnam, People’s Daily, but he grew disillusioned with Communist corruption and, in 1990, fled to Paris.

In an interview, Bui Tin stated:

“The roots of the Vietnam War – its all-encompassing and underlying nature – lie in a confrontation between two ideological worlds: socialism versus capitalism … totalitarianism versus democracy …

The conscience of America was part of its war-making capability, and we were turning that power in our favor. America lost because of its democracy; through dissent and protest it lost the ability to mobilize a will to win.”

Commenting on this dangerous trend is retired Major General Patrick Brady, considered the most decorated living veteran. Major General Patrick Brady wrote, June 4, 2013:

“The greatest danger … the feminization, emasculation and dismantling of our military.

The two most important elements of national survival are the media and the military …

We know the media are failing – God help us if the military does also ….
.. Let’s begin with Benghazi. It is incomprehensible that any commander, let alone the commander in chief, would go AWOL during a crisis such as Benghazi, but he was …

Unprecedented rates of suicide … Cut benefits to veterans … Quad-sexual military with all the health, readiness and moral issues that come with exalting sodomy … Sexual assault …

Women will be tasked to lead bayonet charges … Billions of defense dollars are unaccounted for … Christianity is under military attack, and Bibles have been burned to appease Muslims …

Just as the way forward for America is a return to the morality and values of the past, so too must the military return to the readiness standards and common sense of the past.”

Everything he said also applies to the war being waged against CIVILIZATION by the Green Gestapo. Don’t let the world repeat the mistake the USA did in giving away victory that is within our grasp as the CAGW Alarmism implodes before our eyes.

I think you will find that what you are seeing is liquid water, condensed by the CO2. Water vapor is invisible. The liquid drops are not.
Clouds are similar . All you see are the water droplets.
This is probably why Greta probably thinks that what comes out of cooling towers is CO2.
The MSM journalists use this quirk to frighten us by bombarding us all with images of cooling towers at the top of their articles with the implication that the water clouds you see rising are satanic CO2 molecules.

Oh, Alasdair, I was make a joke. There is no water or water vapor involved.

Dry ice is frozen carbon dioxide. There is NO water involved. It sublimes into white vapor and vanishes like a traf in the wind. It is used to create fog in ice skating shows. I was in several of those at my skating rink. We used the fob machine a lot.

Alasdair is right. The fog produced by cooling the air around dry ice consists of visible condensed water droplets. The CO2 gas subkimated from the solid dry ice remains invisible to humans.

The absorption bands of carbon dioxide lie in the Near IR portion of the EM spectrum. Water vapor absorbs radiation in the Far IR, so we can’t see it either, until the molecules in the air condense into droplets, as in fog or clouds.

Cooling air with dry ice makes low fog. Tossing chunks of it into a warm swimming pool produces dramatic, violent bubbling and fog.

Non-playable character

Basically any character that can’t be interacted with in a video game.

michael hart
Reply to  Ron Long
August 20, 2019 4:56 pm

Ron Long, “NPC” derives from characters in computer games. An NPC is a” non playable character” or “non player character”. While an NPC may appear similar to other characters operated by real humans within a game, it is essentially a computer-generated character with an extremely limited (and usually predictable) range of actions or responses.

This is what leads to the use of the term as an epithet to mock the predictable responses of many people, particularly SJWs. For example: In an on-line argument you may express the opinion that catastrophic anthropogenic global warming is exaggerated. The NPC character will then immediately accuse you of being in the pay of “big oil”. They are incapable of being reasoned with or producing more than a limited number of responses. Thus if you then say you voted for Trump, the SJW NPC will immediately call you a racist, a misogynist and a homophobe, but not be able to articulate any reasons why or further respond to your replies beyond issuing a few standard insults.

The term NPC has quickly gained widespread usage in this context because it appears so uncannily close to reality. You probably get the picture by now. I would go on, but using the above words has probably already put this post in moderation and I don’t want to give the mods unnecessary work.

Actually it derives from pre-computer role-playing games like Dungeons and Dragons. There, NPC stands for ‘non-player character’, meaning controlled by the Dungeon Master.

Malizia II can be sailed solo, as during Vendee Globe circumnavigations, but more likely two crew from the Team will replace Boris and Pierre, who are flying back to Europe. Dunno how long the cameraman Nathan will stay with Svante and Greta.

So, that’s a minimum of four trans-Atlantic flights, and five if Natahn also flies back to Sweden.

This is a fascinating topic—the classification of various degrees of departure of the human condition from an idealized “normal” state into illness, disease, disorder, disability , eccentricity, and just being oneself. It reminds me of the current climate change debate and how far from normal the weather needs to go before somebody declares it catastrophic climate change. And the answer there is “not very far” in most cases.

And so I’d like to ask, is there a 97% consensus that Asberger Syndrome is not a mental illness or a disorder or a condition requiring medical or psychological treatment? And is there general agreement on whether it should be abbreviated as “Asberger” or “Asberger’s”? And finally, is the decision on whether to consider this disability as an illness or not driven by medical logic or by identity politics?

Both the French and German Children’s Crusades of AD 1212 ended badly.

Pierre Casiraghi’s dad Stefano was killed at age 30 in a speedboat accident, when Pierre was three. His mom Caroline, now Princess of Hanover, might not approve of the 31 year-old’s racing even sailboats. When Caroline was 25, her mom, actress-princess Grace Kelly, 52, was fatally injured in a traffic collision, apparently caused by a brain hemorrhage. The crash led to another hemorrhage in the hospital and her death.

Yes, the title King of Hanover went belly up in 1866, but the Second Reich recognized Duke of Brunswick, IIRC. But that title too has been defunct since 1919 under the Weimar Republic.

However Monaco and to some extent Britain still recognize Caroline’s husband’s noble status. The Kingdom of Hanover got its own monarch when Victoria ascended the throne of the UK, since its Salic Law didn’t allow a queen. Caroline’s husband is in the male line of descent from the only one of Vicky’s many uncles who managed to produce a legitimate son.

Before the 1815 Congress of Vienna, Hanover had an elector rather than a king.

Greta Tintin Eleonora Ernman Thunberg was born in Swedish capital Stockholm in January 2003 to Svante Thunberg, an actor, and his opera star wife Malena Ernman.

She is distantly related to Svante Arrhenius, the first scientist to predict that carbon emissions would lead to warming.

Malena was Sweden’s 2009 Eurovision hopeful, belting out her song La Voix. Blonde, glamorous and already a star in her home-land, Malena, 48, was seeking to make an international break-through like compatriots ABBA and the five other Swedish acts to have won the contest.

Yet she trailed a disappointing 21st out of 25, with 33 points.

Greta first learned about climate change aged eight and says she was shocked that adults did not appear to be taking it seriously.

DEEP DEPRESSION
It was one factor that would lead to a deep depression when aged 11, which saw her stop eating and going to school, and then stop speaking to everyone bar her family and one teacher.

Tintin?

Her loser artsy-fartsy parents named her Tintin? And they’re blaming her mental greentardation on climate change?

Malizia is making only 4.4 kt at the moment.

Head downwind, not into the wind. Look for wind but not too much. Avoid big waves and storms.
Yooper’s link shows wind. Click on the Waves button too. That link also does wind predictions. They have done well so far, but there is a big front coming. You can try to predict what they will do based on the Windy information. And do they really care where they end up, as long as there is a train for Greta?

True. Any landfall on the North American mainland would work.

If there were time, she and her dad could even bicycle the rest of the way, racking up virtue signalling points.

Pierre T. could greet Pierre C.’s boat in Nova Scotia.

OTOH, off Nova Scotia, the generally SSE winds become more favorable for a run down to NYC.

Also still a chance they might encounter another cyclone:

Odds are good that within five days the low off FL will organize into a storm and track NE along the Atlantic seaboard. Malizia might well reach NYC before the storm gets there however.

Tropical Storm Chantal is forming in the Atlantic. That may slow them down a bit.

With Greta hogging the press, please let me hijack the thread for a moment to bring your attention the on going voyage of Jean Socrates, who just celebrated her 77th birthday alone at sea (except for her radio friends) of the S/V Nereida… she is now on the final run in the North Pacific to become the oldest woman to sail solo nonstop unassisted around the world.

Captain Socrates’ voyage represents a vision of the practical kind of ‘sustainability’ that needs no empty jargon and false promises to promote it. Propelled by sail alone and not once making landfall or taking in supplies since October 2018… her voyage has also showcased the modern technology that has made such a thing possible. By no means frail herself… nevertheless she relies on her seaworthy hull, wind turbine, a small diesel generator and batteries, winches, a steering autopilot with GPS and weather-fax to plot her way. And manages to keep going and make constant repairs with gumption and style. Proof that our species is nowhere near reaching its ultimate boundaries of accomplishment, so long as we do not turn away from industrial progress or ruin our civilization with childish choices.

She reminds me of Sir Francis Chicester. I read a book he wrote about solo sailing, when I was young, and was fascinated with the idea.

That little girl is a tribute to indoctrination. In some ways what was done to her is a form of child abuse. She is a sad poignant reminder what lengths fanatics will go to in service to their cause.

I can’t fault Greta and her parents milking their 15 minutes of fame for all the money they can get, as well as pushing to stretch the 15 minutes out as long as they can.

I just wish her 15 minutes of fame wasn’t so annoying.

When I was young, I was swayed by a few of the doomsday prophecies of the time. By my 30s, I was no longer buying what any doomsayers were selling. None of the prophecies of my younger years came true or were even remotely conceivable anymore. They were no longer even being mentioned. Some of us grow up and catch on to the pattern.

I’d be curious if in 14 years, when we’re 2 years past the ‘Earth will end’, Greta will hold fast to “The Earth will end any day now, just you wait and see.” She’ll be 30 then. My guess is that Greta won’t let go. She’s invested too much emotional capital into her worldview to just chuck it all. I’d be pleased to be wrong. We’ll just have to wait and see.

It’s annoying because it’s gone way beyond the alloted 15 minutes.

I think some are afraid to point the finger at the sponsors/snatchers, all billionaires.
Among “Climate Emergency Fund,” CEF, are to be found Rory Kennedy, the daughter of Robert Kennedy, and Aileen Getty, daughter of the late John Paul Getty, along with the “philanthropist” Trevor Neilson, whose career has included various forms of collaboration with Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, George Soros and Ted Turner.

They want to snatch our standard of living as their priviliged financial system careens to either a horrible crash or a new paradigm. Abusing kids for such purposes is nothing new for such an “elite”.

Having long since understood that none of this has anything to do with“climate science,” the only remaining question, the real elephant in the room is: what exactly in hell are these people trying to accomplish? I’m 50/50 divided; is it the Club of Rome/Maurice Strong’s bluntly stated goal of literally dismantling Western society, or just another scheme to make the puppet masters richer, just writ larger than anything attempted before? It reminds me in every way that matters of creatures like David Icke – does he actually believe the insane crap coming out of his mouth, or is it just about the money?

I only hope I live to find out, and to witness the shock and shame of the millions who fell for it and promoted it

To this old greybeard granddad, it’s all about the power. From that, the money will flow.

Aileen Getty is sister to the late kidnapping victim J. P. Getty III.

The Getty fortune comes from oil wells.
