Economic and political reality is biting hard in Germany, where Chancellor Angela Merkel has announced a push back against CO2 emissions targets which she originally helped to propose.

Aug 27, 2018,5:01 pmIn 2014, the leaders of the 28 countries of the European Union came to a difficult compromise on combating climate change – agreeing to make greenhouse gas emissions 40% lower than 1990 levels by 2030.
Now, some of those countries say new data and Europe’s alarming heat wave this summer mean that target should be raised to 45%.
Miguel Arias Cañete, the EU’s energy chief, said earlier this month that he will put forward just such a proposal in September, following a request in June from 14 EU countries including France, Germany, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.

Though Germany was one of the original signatories of the letter asking for an increase, following significant pressure from German industry, Chancellor Angela Merkel has changed her tune.
Asked this weekend about the proposal to raise the target, Merkel told the German program Tageschau that she is opposed. “I am not so happy about the new proposals because many member states today do not comply with what they have already promised,” she said “We should first reach the goals we have already set. I don’t think that constantly setting new targets makes sense.”

What a surprise – EU member states cheating on their own carbon targets. Germany hesitating to support deeper CO2 emissions cuts, citing the climate hypocrisy of other EU member states.

The end was always goign to come not when the science stop supporting AGW , because good science never started to , but when the political wind fell out of its sails for its that which was all has kept IPCC and other bodies and their hangers on moving in the first place . And the signs of that were seen on that all over world in elections for the last few years ‘climate doom ‘ was no where in the ‘things to offer the voters ‘ list.
Given the first rule is get elected and the second stay elected you cannot do that if you do not at least pretend to care about what the voters do , and clearly AGW does not make the cut. Energy shortages and high costs , the green ‘dream ‘ on the other had certainly does make the list.
When universities start dropping the courses, and so a lot of easy academic jobs go, and Mann is thrown under the bus by his own community in an attempt to save themselves, and national news agency decided ‘chicken little ‘ does not sell any more, the slide will be fully on .
One day the IPCC will be down to one person sitting on office moving bits of papers from on part of the desk to another , for nothing ever dies once it becomes a UN organization even if its purpose has long gone .
The smart ones will have moved on to the next scare , the stupid will be sitting around like some punch drunk old boxers boring the rear end of others about how they ‘used to be someone ‘
Could take years and it cannot come soon enough , but the wind has changed direction.
Lets hope the main ‘characters’ live long enough to see their life work held up as the joke it is and always has been .
Merkel is not the sharpest tool in the box. Remember that her family voluntarily moved from West Germany to East Germany, and they weren’t communists. It’s hereditary.

It really does make me think of a certain madman in Berlin in 1945, planning new campaigns with divisions that no longer exist, as the Red army encircles the bunker. At what point will these crazies admit, even to themselves, that the game is up.

That is just rubbish. Despite Merkel’s many faults, the economy is very strong.
Germany takes no new debts for some years now and has a surplus in the household of some billions this year.
They just have to find out where to put the money.
The failiure to meet the CO2 Target is true. When they put off the last nuclear plants from the line, the CO2 will even raise hugher.
Even our neighbors are not willig to buy or sell electricity to our fluctuating power net.
As long as the US stays out of the Paris Accord and refuses to go along with the Progressive CAGW agenda, none of the other countries will remain in the agenda for long because NONE will be able to compete at all with the US in production if they are force to use unreliable and very expensive energy for everything they do while the US and China utilize inexpensive, reliable and abundant energy. Simple as that. The CAGW agenda completely disappears if Trump gets second term and stays out of this Progressive Green Agenda, especially if he can get the CO2 endangerment finding reversed.

Is that actually true?
Merkel doesn’t oppose emissions targets, what she opposes is establishing new targets when the old targets haven’t been met yet.
The real question is will their current emissions targets ever be met? What comes first, meeting the targets, or trashing the German economy?
