Cardinal Blase Cupich has made the outrageous claim during an interview that talking about the environment and refugees is more important than addressing church child sex abuse allegations.
Chicago Cardinal: Global Warming, Migrants Are ‘Bigger Agenda’ than Sex Abuse
28 Aug 2018
Thomas D. Williams, Ph.D.Cardinal Blase Cupich, the Archbishop of Chicago, has downplayed bombshell allegations that Pope Francis knowingly rehabilitated an abusive American cardinal, saying the pope has a “bigger agenda” to worry about, such as protecting the environment and migrants.
In a television interview with NBC News, Cardinal Cupich commented on a recent 11-page statement by Archbishop Carlo Maria Viganò, former papal nuncio to the United States, that alleges a series of misdeeds by high-ranking Catholic prelates, including Pope Francis himself.
“The pope has a bigger agenda. He’s gotta get on with other things, of talking about the environment and protecting migrants and carrying on the work of the Church,” Cardinal Cupich said.
“We’re not going to go down a rabbit hole on this,” he added.

I sincerely hope Cardinal Cupich walks back his disgusting comments. Church sex abuse of children is the ultimate betrayal of trust. Suggesting that “talking about the environment” could be more important than fixing a broken system which failed, may still be failing to protect vulnerable children – words fail me.
Pure evil … according to the church, Jesus apparently cared for children but seemed to disregard weather entirely.
Sects come and go but Christianity will always be.
Not if Islamic radicals can squash it, I fear.
Speaking of Christianity (not Christendom) and the Bible “This anvil has worn out many hammers” I do not fear Islam. He said, “Do not fear those who can kill the body and after that they can do nothing, rather fear Him who can throw both body and soul into heal, yes fear Him.”
How can anything green related be so downright anomalous ? I mean, is there a limit be it moral, ethical, financial, human ?
Again – I think this guy was put in simply to enact progressive agenda – climate change is just the biggest lever.
Molesting kids? Couldn’t care less.
Probably the next step is to try and normalize THAT.
For every Christian believer religion is very personal. Claiming migrants and AGW are more important is nothing more than a major smoke scream to avoid reality of day to day life of parishioners. And the Catholic Church wonders why they have a hard time recruiting and are losing members.
Just to be fair, many of those who have been abused would not have been considered children 2000 years ago.
I think any priests who are truly “shepherds of their congregations” should get the flock out of the Catholic church.
Whatever happened to the good old days of seeing images of the Vegan Mary in reflections on cars and in knotholes of trees. I guess those were the fully suppressed news days.
These days there are some legitimate sightings of The Messiah hanging nailed to a hammer and sickle when in His Grace’s presence.
Vegan Mary?
Are you privy to a gospel that the rest of us haven’t seen?
The Mother of God was probably largely vegetarian, if not vegan, out of need, not choice. Except for the odd male kid goat or dead or dry nanny, animal protein other than fish would have been hard to come by. Dead donkey, maybe.
Pescatarian, I guess, thanks to Peter and his crew.
I
predictproject intense warming in this Cardinal’s future. But not on this globe.Eric Worral writes:

Suggesting that “talking about the environment” could be more important than fixing a broken system which failed, may still be failing to protect vulnerable children – words fail me.”
I totally agree that this Cardinal needs to get his priorities sorted out pronto.
But three points:
Firstly, as regards ‘a broken system which failed, may still be failing to protect vulnerable children’ here is an excerpt from the Pennsylvania Grand Jury Report
“At the same time, we recognize that much has changed over the last fifteen years. We agreed to hear from each of the six dioceses we investigated, so that they could inform us about recent developments in their jurisdictions. In response, five of the bishops submitted statements to us, and the sixth, the bishop of Erie, appeared before us in person. His testimony impressed us as forthright and heartfelt. It appears that the church is now advising law enforcement of abuse reports more promptly. Internal review processes have been established. Victims are no longer quite so invisible.”
Most informed commentators recognise that the Catholic Church has taken huge steps to prevent child abuse occurring in the future or being covered up. No procedures are going to prevent such abuses altogether but there is widespread recognition that cases are far fewer than in the past.
Secondly, Eric Worrall refers to ‘sex abuse of children’. There is no question that children have been abused but why does Eric Worrall only mention children? Many of the most recent allegations refer to clergy abusing male adults. What has to be recognised is that much of the abuse comes from clergy who are/were homosexual predators.
Thirdly, this Cardinal has come in for widespread criticism from within the Catholic Church for his comments.
Francis Beckwith, a Catholic theologian, sums it up well.
Jesus: “If anyone causes one of these little ones…to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.” Cupich: “But Lord, that would pollute the sea & may harm the baby seals.” Jesus wept.
Child abuse? Not such a problem. “Climate Change” message – a huge deal – so says the “Vicar of Christ” who sleeps in a golden bed and claims to represent someone who had “naught where to rest his head”. So says the guy who represents an organisation who tried Galileo for heresy for saying the Earth moved around the Sun and burned Giordano Bruno at the stake.
The Pope’s response is like if Peter, after casting his net on the other side of the boat to catch a large haul of fish and having been asked by Jesus to “feed my lambs,” had replied, “I have bigger fish to fry.”
It is so much easier to tilt at windmills by fighting against a vague and future threat of climate change than it is to tackle a clear and present danger to our children. The first only requires talk. The second requires action. The Pope clearly prefers to talk over taking action. A true minister of Christ would be willing and able to do both.
There are many people who can advocate for immigrants or global warming(?). The pope is the only one who can straighten out this awful situation. If he doesn’t do it, it won’t get done.
