Guest essay by Eric Worrall
Our favourite identity thief Peter Gleick, who stole documents from Heartland while serving as chairman of the AGU ethics committee, has written a deliciously confused piece in which he urges people not to give up, despite the inevitability of serious climate change.
Saving Earth: Don’t Fall Into Climate Change Fatalism

Guest WriterYou reap what you sow. The chickens have come home to roost. The ship has sailed. The s**t has hit the fan. The English language has no shortage of idioms describing lost opportunities and the consequences of failing to act. And we’ve failed to act on human-caused climate change. It is here, with a vengeance.
We see it in massive wildfires sweeping across the western United States, Scandinavia, Canada and Siberia; the brutal heat waves and rising seas; dying coral reefs and acidifying oceans; the destruction of the Arctic and melting of Antarctica; crop failures and supercharged hurricanes.
We told you so, over and over, but you wouldn’t listen. (There, I got that off my chest.)
…
It’s too late to stop severe climate change – indeed we see it around us. But it is absolutely not too late to slow the rate of climate change, to accelerate the transition away from coal, and then oil, and then natural gas to the diverse and increasingly inexpensive and effective suite of renewable energy options available to us. We can, and must, still act.
…
Gleick and his friends are discovering too late that fear does not motivate people to act. Prolonged chronic fear creates political paralysis.
A senior politician once taught me the secret of negative campaigning. You don’t try to frighten people into voting for you, because that doesn’t work. Instead you deliver negative messages to people who support your opponents. Negative messages make people feel disengaged, negative messages convince opposition supporters to stay home on election day.
Since only climate alarmists believe negative messages about global warming, Gleick and his buddies have been shutting down their own supporters far more effectively than we ever could – their climate scare stories terrify those who believe into disengaging from the political process.
Somehow I doubt Peter Gleick will be able to stop. Even though on some level he must realise his entire life campaign has been one long terrible mistake, Peter’s ego always seems to come first – “We told you so, over and over, but you wouldn’t listen.”.
Keep up the good work, Peter Gleick.

You’re DOOMED, doomed and I told you so!
There will be tornadoes the size of Texas, category XL hurricanes, simultaneous drought flood wildfires, human sacrifice, cats and dogs living together, mass hysteria, and heat wave snowstorms! But I can save you now for three easy payments of
$779.99$19.99! That’s a savings of 3,900%!!! You will also get this commemorative keychain made from the highest quality plastics proving to everyone that you are a climate warrior.ACHTUNG! You must all bear in mind that the elites (like Peter) are okay to drive and fly and heat and cool and use and consume, etc., while they preach doom and gloom. Liberals have moral license to be BIG hypocrites, remember that.
By their beards shall ye know them..
I LOL’d
Oh well NOW I’m convinced. Hold on while I go tell my wife we have to go live in the woods and she’s got to commute to work via bicycle.
What a loser Gleick is.
let us know how she takes the news.
Whatta w@nka Mr Glick appears to be.
We dont see it,.
He sees it, shudda gone to Specsavers
”We see it in massive wildfires sweeping across the western United States, Scandinavia, Canada and Siberia; the brutal heat waves and rising seas; dying coral reefs and acidifying oceans; the destruction of the Arctic and melting of Antarctica; crop failures and supercharged hurricanes.”
People don’t respond to theoretical threats, they respond to observations, and until something other than summer occurs for heat waves, no one is listening. He told us so, we did not listen, and nothing happened. This is what we see.
Alarmism plus give-us-the-money has to walk a tightrope, impending catastrophe … but not impending enough to deter you from handing us your money to stop it. This message keeps thousands in employment.
Well the conclusion, translated into English, is
“Give us more power, and send us more money.”
Another Peter told them so over and over again and then, when a real wolf showed up he was rewarded for his make believe in a most unpleasant way.
Now Peter the imposter continues the same monotonous chorus of “wolf wolf wolf” and is alarmed at the deafening sound of crickets in response. I suppose he is so starved for recognition and praise that he can’t help himself. Let him be recognized for what he is – a vessel for misery who, when the real wolf arrives, will be impotent to defend himself in the absence of friends and community who long ago stopped hearing his plaintive cries for attention.
If it as bad as Gleick claims, why in the world is he not protesting the shutdown of nuclear power plants, supporting the construction of more Nuclear power plants and instead helping with the elimination of NPPs? The fastest, most reliable way of reducing CO2 emissions is producing all electricity from Nuclear power and increasing the use of Electric Vehicles.
Next time you go the the hospital look around at all of the electrical driven devices. Then, mentally, place your life under the control and monitoring of those electrical devices. Then shut off the source of electricity. What happens? Multiply that by the number of people in their beds depending on that electricity. As a power plant Startup Engineer I tested the Emergency Diesel Generators you think will make this a non problem, Believe me the EDG will NOT save everyone’s life! Consider the number of devices that are computer operated and will go through a reset/startup from the briefest of losses of electricity. How soon will the nurse get to your device and reset and re-enter the data for you and everyone else. And the Envirowhacos want 100% renewable which is also 100% unreliable.
follow the money.
Alarmists typically relish any and all disasters remotely associated with the weather.
Even disasters caused by human carelessness or criminality are claimed to be worse than they otherwise would have been without climate change™.
“As long as the alarmists keep treating the rest of us the way Gleick does, they should not expect to make any progress acquiring additional support for their agenda. It is people like Gleick that keep the climate change issue at or near the bottom of people’s list of priorities.”

The climate is always changing. The issue is to what extent does human activity cause change that is harmful to our biosphere? That question does not seem to very important to the advocates of the ideol-political issue called “climate change”. I would be more receptive to any evidence of harm but for the fact that their demands reliably converge far more towards socialism than on improving the biosphere.
Do not assist that lying jerk with good advice please.
Hi Peter
We want to help, but moving this technology forward is not an easy process.
“Somehow I doubt Peter Gleick will be able to stop. Even though on some level he must realise his entire life campaign has been one long terrible mistake, Peter’s ego always seems to come first – ‘We told you so, over and over, but you wouldn’t listen’.”
Typical of someone who is so important (in their own eyes) that they can never be wrong. Just ask them, they will confirm it!
Why would he stop? Doomsday cults never go out of style.
Climate change hysteria is like cars — you have to come out with an upgrade every year. If 2018 is the year of “severe climate change”, I wonder what 2019 will bring?
For the last 3 cold summers all we heard here in Finland was: “see, the Golf-stream has slowed down, and now summers are cold, obviously it is climate change”, this year: “see, summers are getting so hot people are dying, obviously it is climate change”.
The climate alarmists can “turn on a dime”. Whichever way the wind is blowing, they have an explanation.
I guess they don’t know how silly they look when they make these contradictory claims.
Yawn! Hasnt the needle got worn out yet?
It is repeatedly claimed for Australia that heat waves are becoming longer, hotter and more frequent.
About 75% of Australians live in the 6 cities Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth, Hobart and Brisbane.
The official weather records for these cities are some of the longest in the world, with Sydney and Melbourne having daily max and min temperature data from the 1860s. They are therefore suitable to test for hotter, longer and more often.
Here is a standard analysis I have done to test the horror heatwave assertions. The paper finishes a few years ago, when I wrote it. I can’t update Melbourne because the site closed 4 years ago. It does not matter much that a few years are missing. A global warming CO2 hypothesis that was dismantled in 2014 is hardly robust if the conclusions reverses when the last 4 years are added.
This is an easy read. I sent the paper to our BOM, protesting that what was being said about heatwaves here did not seem to apply to most inhabitants affected. Their response (lost it in a PC crash) was to the effect that they could not consider it unless I made it a peer-reviewed paper. Now, to my mind, a paper that is so elementary that it is no more than adding up and taking away does not merit a place in serious scientific literature.
Why do you not read this in the context of forecasts for more horrible extremes and let me know if it makes a point or not. Geoff.

It looks like your city charts showed a lot of heat in the 1930’s.
Exactly right! The climate changes constantly, humans are not causing it and can do ABSOLUTELY nothing to stop it. “people” like Petey need slapped till they wake up, or shut up, which ever comes first.
So he is a hydrologist or water well guy and specialist on ethics – he was appointed to the board of Geophizz Research Letters as head of ethics after his misrepresenting himself and committing wire fraud. This is a notch up on his resume for these post abnormal Dems.
“We see it in massive wildfires sweeping across the western United States, Scandinavia, Canada and Siberia; the brutal heat waves and rising seas; dying coral reefs and acidifying oceans; the destruction of the Arctic and melting of Antarctica; crop failures and supercharged hurricanes.”
Wildfires have always happened. They are a necessary part of the ecosystem in many areas like the Western US. Gleick is arguing that the evidence of massive change is a continuation of what has always happened concerning wildfires. Likewise, heat waves have always happened, and there is no evidence that they are getting significantly more frequent or more brutal. In the US, the 1930s remain the worst year for heat and drought. The oceans are apparently rising at the rate they have been rising for hundreds of years.
Coral reefs are largely in tact and there is no evidence that they are dying at an accelerated rate due to increased warming. The Arctic is still there and has not been destroyed. Antarctica is not melting at all. Crop harvests have been steadily increasing for decades and are at an all-time high. There is no trend in total tropical cyclone energy over the last 100 years!
Every example Gleick gives of climate change being “here with a vengeance” is simply false! Blatantly false! Shouting a falsehood loudly and incessantly does not make it more true, but there apparently is a market for professional Chicken Littles. Applicants should apply with their loudest clucking at: The Huffington Post, or some other liberally spun disseminator of false news.
“Every example Gleick gives of climate change being “here with a vengeance” is simply false! Blatantly false!”
Exactly right!

I was saddened this week by the passing of John Coleman, and went for a long walk to enjoy the world around us and the beauty and wonder of life.
John Coleman exemplified the human qualities that I value most – he was strong, courageous, and true – and he was a happy man, whose joy was shared with everyone.
I think John would not be upset by the likes of Peter Gleick – he would dismiss Gleick’s drivel with a humorous phrase and a big smile, and move on to truly important things.
Best, Allan

You’ve all heard this before:
Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.
Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.
Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

Very inspiring. Thanks, Allan.
