Climate change is over. No, I’m not saying the climate will not change in the future, or that human influence on the climate is negligible. I mean simply that climate change is no longer a pre-eminent policy issue. All that remains is boilerplate rhetoric from the political class, frivolous nuisance lawsuits, and bureaucratic mandates on behalf of special-interest renewable-energy rent seekers.
Judged by deeds rather than words, most national governments are backing away from forced-marched decarbonization. You can date the arc of climate change as a policy priority from 1988, when highly publicized congressional hearings first elevated the issue, to 2018. President Trump’s ostentatious withdrawal from the Paris Agreement merely ratified a trend long becoming evident.
A good indicator of why climate change as an issue is over can be found early in the text of the Paris Agreement. The “nonbinding” pact declares that climate action must include concern for “gender equality, empowerment of women, and intergenerational equity” as well as “the importance for some of the concept of ‘climate justice.’ ” Another is Sarah Myhre’s address at the most recent meeting of the American Geophysical Union, in which she proclaimed that climate change cannot fully be addressed without also grappling with the misogyny and social injustice that have perpetuated the problem for decades.

On a supporting data note, these two Google Trends graphs, for the USA and for the world, show a clear picture of interest on the topic of global warming, or lack thereof. Note the big spike in 2006 from Al Gore’s movie, and the next spike (smaller) in 2009 from ClimateGate. Then, there’s the slow ride into obscurity. “Climate change” as a search topic has grown slightly over the same period, but runs about equal to the global warming topic today.

I respect your opinion, but for me the climate alarm movement has infected every college, every public school and journalism at large. Massive numbers of climate warriors are being produced weekly. Politicians and government scientists will continue to fight to protect their legacy. Only when energy costs soar to painful levels, will rational thinking replace the alarmist religion.

That said, the Electoral College is a piece of absolute brilliance on the part of the Constitutional Framers. If we didn’t have that, the East and Left Coast Liberals would already have turned the US into Venezuela.
Further to reduce the effect of Democrat election fraud, IMO the Constitution should be amended to award Electoral Votes by congressional district, with the statewide winner still getting two extra votes.
This would also mean that candidates could no longer camp out in OH and FL during Octobers.
The Framers didn’t foresee the party system, so that part of the Constitution had to be amended. They envisioned the Electors as respected individuals acting independently, rather than as rubber stamps for their parties’ candidates.
That’s not necessarily a good idea if the hope is to benefit conservatives. It would be beneficial to the Republicans in blue states that have conservative enclaves such as California, New York, Illinois, and New Jersey. But it would probably be equally or more beneficial to the Democrats in red and purple states like Texas, Florida, Missouri, and Arizona, where there are urban congressional districts that would go blue.
Allocation by congressional district is a step toward allocation by popular vote, that is a step toward the elimination of the Electoral College.

About 2 weeks after it went into service with Quantas, I rode the new A380 LAX to Sydney. Very nice ride, massive airplane, that the LAX terminal couldn’t accommodate, so we took buses from the passenger terminal out to the airplane for loading. Too big for its own good.
People gave Boeing a lot of grief when they decided not to invest any money in the super jumbo market.
That decision is looking more and more prescient.
It’s a brilliant, quiet, comfortable aircraft and I love it. Perhaps LA should look into upgrading their airport facilities if they can’t handle it. Good grief, MAN (Manchester) can do it!

Speaking of BS, I found it interesting that the article that you linked to basically says that coastal erosion is about a third of what it was in the 1970s, yet alarmists are complaining that the problem of “climate change” is getting worse since then. This seems to be a typical approach of alarmists: cite studies that report problems, but don’t support the claim of anthropogenic warming. Are you hoping that skeptics won’t read the citation with an eye to veracity?
Beyond that, the causes of land loss in Louisiana have been well known for at least a generation, and none of them have anything to do with so called global warming.

I love the idea that we can “build the economy” with “preventative measures”. Perhaps you could outline some of these measures and what the net benefit will be.
In Ontario Canada the leader of the Liberal Party (Ontario version) already conceded defeat in the election that will be held tomorrow – that was last Saturday. She was intent on building the economy with preventative measures, like you. As a result, 4% of homes have been disconnected from the grid for failure to pay electricity bills and 8% are behind in payments. It is illegal to disconnect someone in winter so heaven only knows what the real state of energy poverty is. It is an unmitigated disaster (geddit?)
It is the costs of virtue signaling with boondoggles that keep increasing – evidence is everywhere. Now the public is left with the very real costs of her virtue signaling.
It is my generation that became highly concerned about the environment and protecting and cleaning it – we did it purposefully . We were very successful. Oceans are next.

Parents are more interested in safe neighborhoods, trash pickup, and good schools than they are in whether or not the mean Gorebull temperature is going to rise 1 degree Centigrade. They really just do not give a flying flake of corn about it.
Everyday stuff takes precedence over futuristic nonsense that comes off as some peculiar sci-fi plot resembling ‘Soylent Green’. When the weather guessers can’t even make an accurate forecast about the next five days, and keep changing it on a daily and sometimes hourly basis (I’ve been tracking Accuweather’s guess and switch stuff for about six months now), why would anyone who has a real life waste a moment of real time on such silliness? They should simply admit that they turned this branch of science into a cult to feed their ridiculous egos and grab grant cash, and that they are otherwise useless chair warmers.
The pullout from the Paris climate nonsense was a good thing to do. Ending that idiocy for the US was a start to return to something more normal. I hope this trend continues and other countries not mentioned by me finally come to their senses.

According to both graphs; interest in “climate change” or “Global warming” peaked at 100% approximately around 2007.
And, their graphic shows that the 2009 Climategate release, only caused a minor interest increase to approximately 50%.
To achieve those levels of interest in “climate change” or “Global warming”, I suspect they searched for a lot of similar terms and just conflated all results.
Still, both peaks were very temporary.

The Centre is funded by a massive bequest from the late philanthropist Paul Ramsay. With a $30 million annual budget, it provides scholarships and degrees to inform and advocate for the pillars of Western civilisation.
These are the very values and traditions that have underpinned our nationhood and make Western nations so attractive to those seeking a better life.
However, the advocacy of these values is too radical for the ANU, which rejected the centre. Unable to mount a credible rationale for the decision, the decision-makers chose to blame Tony Abbott.
That’s right, the leftists’ “in case of emergency break glass and blame Tony Abbott” defence was trotted out.
The former PM’s egregious sin – as a director of the Ramsay Centre – was to pen an essay stating that the Centre actually advocated for Western civilisation.
Imagine the horror of such a statement that proved to be a bridge too far for the ANU.
This esteemed taxpayer-funded institution will host a centre for Arab culture and Islamic studies but not for Western civilisation.
It will accept money from an Islamic theocracy and state sponsor of terror like Iran but won’t take a bequest from a wonderful Australian philanthropist.
It is a shameful indictment on the state of some of our tertiary indoctrination institutions.
Remarkably, the Australian government is closing the door to many students from attending some more balanced universities through penalties in their fee HELP program.
Students who choose to attend one of the four private universities cop an outrageous government ‘fee’ comprising 25% of their total student debt – that’s many thousands of dollars – for the ‘sin’ of studying outside the indoctrinating public university club.
