Negotiations for a new North American Free Trade Agreement have reportedly stalled at least in part over whether climate change should be included in the text of the agreement.

U.S. Fights Mention of ‘Climate Change’ in New Nafta

The U.S. is fighting against any mention of “climate change” in a potential new environmental chapter of the North American Free Trade Agreement, according to two people familiar with talks.

The latest Nafta talks were set to wrap Friday in Washington with no new agreement to finalize individual subjects or chapters. While mention of climate change in a trade agreement would be largely symbolic, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has pushed for the inclusion of such “progressive” elements to help boost public support for trade.

In a list of Nafta negotiating objectives, the U.S. called for the countries to bring environmental provisions, along with labor, from side agreements into the core of the deal. Still, it’s privately pushing against the inclusion of the phrase “climate change” in that chapter, and against any mention of multilateral cooperation on the environment, the two people said, speaking on condition of anonymity as negotiations continue.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s climate posturing rarely fails to entertain.

Hardcore greens like Bill McKibben despise Trudeau because he supports oil sand extraction – as Trudeau said in March, “No country would find 173 billion barrels of oil in the ground and just leave them there.”. Trudeau’s $215,000 holiday to the Bahamas including a 70 mile private helicopter flight from Nassau to Bell Island also attracted significant criticism from greens and Canadian MPs.

Then to prove his green sympathies, Trudeau backflips and tosses absurd climate demands into high profile events, like the current NAFTA renegotiation.

Given how many people Trudeau has upset, you really have to wonder who he thinks his target audience is, or whether he even has a target audience.

at least now in Canada we get to chose our own gender pronoun and it is a criminal offence if you don’t call a person by their chosen pronoun.
so I give formal notice that henceforth my gender pronoun is “prime-minister”. it is now a criminal offence to address me as other than “prime-minister ferd berple”. except on Wednesdays when my gender pronoun becomes “supreme-being”.

Yo, Mr. Dude Prime FB, for some reason or other I don’t think you have the appropriate plumbing or accoutrements to be one of the Supremes. But what do I know in this word of LGBTQXYZ world of political correctness. By the way, why Wednesdays? Is that Karaoke Night at the local watering hole? :))

You forgot, or maliciously omitted PM from your list. I would file a complaint but you ignorantly failed to inform us how you wish to be identified.

John Harmsworth, I’m a cis-male that identifies as female and lesbian. You can call me just about whatever you want except late for dinner or yellow bellied. :))

In Canada you cannot question others about their chosen identity.

It would be the best thing for Canada, too, because Canadians would no longer be able to elect idiots without worrying about the consequences.

What tends to be forgotten is that what matters most to voters nowadays is that the votee should have charisma. Canada’s last prime minister, Stephen Harper, was sadly lacking in this department; indeed, it might be said that he possessed charisntma. The only way that Justin Trudeau could have lost the last election would have been if the alternative was Oprah, or possible Madonna.

JT has been deified, and can do no wrong. Indeed, we even have a Trudeaupian hymn book. For example:

(to the tune of How sweet the name of Jesus sounds)

How sweet the name of Justin sounds
In a believer’s ear
He’ll promise anything you want
But never let you near.

How beautiful his selfies are
Midst the adoring throng
With mainstream media on his side
He never can do wrong.

How brightly his charisma shines
His gilded name stands tall
In adulation bathed he hath
No need of brains at all.

I’m sure Madonna has many, many diseases but I have never observed symptoms of charisma there.

Don’t worry, if Trudeau can get rolling papers into NAFTA, he’ll cave on the rest!

Trudeau is like some jerk trying to shove his religion down your throat. He made the same arrogant mistake recently in China .
Prime Minister dressed down for the China trip appearing before the very formal welcome looking like he was going to Canadian Tire to by a plunger . Read the room … China and the USA don’t give a flying fig
about Mr Politically correct and his self righteous hobbies . Stay home or grow up .

Thank you all for the insights into Canada 2017-December.
Much as I suspe4cted – on the other side of the Atlantic – but also worse than I had feared.

And I wish I could tell you that we – in the UK, let alone in South London – are in a good place. . . . . .

Hate to say it, but, as someone who emigrated from the UK to Canada, I can safely say you’re much worse off. We may have idiots in Ottawa, but most policies that affect peoples’ everyday lives are made provincially, not nationally. With rare exceptions, like gun laws and ‘carbon tax’, I’m more concerned by what the provincial government is doing than what Ottawa is doing.

As a Canadian who cringes every time Trudeau speaks, all I can say is “Judge us not by our politicians, lest ye be judged by yours”
I am proud of my nation, even if it’s political class is a total embarrassment. But then again, name one country on the planet where it’s citizens wouldn’t say the same thing.

Good point, but I can’t claim it.
(CAGW. Maybe the “W” doesn’t stand for “warming” but rather “worming” it’s way into all policy decisions?)
I was going for something along the lines of “Introducing CAGW into NAFTA is stoopid!” 😎

Passing US tax reform and letting NAFTA expire even for one year will shut down Canada.

I’m not a Trudeau fan, but so far the US negotiation tactics of “beggar thy neighbor” are way less than reasonable. So far US strategy is to cause US job creation by putting Canada “out of business”.

Why wouldn’t the US try to make gains at Canada’s expense? They are both separate, sovereign countries that the the citizens expect the politicians to once in awhile look after the citizen’s interest, such as in jobs. Jobs to Canadians won’t pay an American’s bills.

The US should have “America First” policies.
Canada should have “Canada First” policies.
Any agreements between the two should benefit both.
Agreements based on CAGW theories benefit neither.

OTTAWA—Besides the best-growing economy in the Group of Seven, Canada has another, less-flattering distinction among the developed world’s biggest economies: a widespread failure to pay its employees.

Since early last year, more than half, or 150,000, of the Canadian government’s employees have either been overpaid, underpaid or not paid at all because of flaws in a new payroll system, auditors said Tuesday. The fix could take years and cost taxpayers upward of a half a billion dollars, they warned.

Canadians love preachy Liberals like Prime Minister Photo – OP. Budgets balance themselves according to
Trudeau . Seems offshore accounts are OK for silver spoon preachy Liberals but people that are not reliant on government need to be culled .
The USA is going to send Trudeau and his group of weepers packing .

If Trump wanted to be mean he could simply point out that no climate change prediction has ever proven correct. Every single thing they’ve said has been proven wrong. There is no problem with whales, bears, plankton, no increases in extreme weather, no forecast of temperature, rain, hurricanes or anything has ever come to pass. Since 1999 temperatures flatlined which they didn’t predict. They have spent the last 20 years playing with historical temperatures to make the temperature change look like it’s still going up by depressing temperatures for the last 100 years. Now parts of Australia are 6F less than were measured at the time. Boy those thermostats back then were amazingly inaccurate and always measured temperature too hot. Amazing.

For the first time ever climate scientists claim they have predicted increased tropical storm activity of the coast of India. Wow. After billions and billions and 30 years they think the models can actually predict one thing in the entire world accurately. We’ll see. They have a tendency to jump to conclusions based on spurious data. Every storm they claim is caused by global warming until we go 11 years withputa storm and then they forget they ever said something. This is the most bogus science run by corrupt propagandists. What an embarrassment to science.

I expect HRH Queen Elizabeth II will be squirming at seeing her lap-dog Trudeau behaving like an imbecile. He is supposed to be reading the script, rather than going off-piste and pushing his own rather dumb liberal agenda. I think his days are numbered and, if he doesn’t tow the line, the order will soon be issued – ‘off with his head!’
