To fight this bad science we all need to post wherever we can reach others, not just “preach to the crowd,.” From my TV years I have thousands of followers on Facebook, so I posted this item there:
Did you see it? The headline says that 2014 was the warmest year of all time. Three times they have “homogenized” the long term records to make the past cooler so the present is warmer by comparison. The manipulations are shameful and agenda driven and a horrible distortion of reality. And, after all of this the best they can do is come up with 2014 being the warmest year by a mire .07 of a degree. And, they shout from the roof tops declaring that there is a giant climate crisis. And, in all of this embarrassing distortion of science they provide no new evidence (their old evidence totally failed to verify) that links changes in climate with the activities of mankind, particularly the long claimed but totally failed theory that carbon dioxide is a significant greenhouse gas. This is all very frustrating to those of us who are serious about correcting the bad science so our civilization can happily proceed with the wonderful climatic times we have enjoyed since the ice age ended 12,000 years ago. Relax and rejoyce. Life is good.
[0.07, 0.04, or 0.02 degrees? Are C and F units being cross-converted by different people? .mod]
There are lots of people that have looked at their thermometers or seen the individuals promoting CAGW (for me it was all “background noise” until Al Gore joined the hockey team) that are having “now wait a minute!” moments at hype.
To have the information and/or data available to them to support their gut feeling of “that can’t be right” is very good. There are lots of sites they can be directed to for more information. WUWT is among the best.
Not everyone who comes here or to the other sites are members of the choir, but, yes direct them to “where the music is playing”.
(Reference to Mel Gibson’s line from the movie “Conspiracy Theory”)
Fantastic! Yes, keep putting the truth out there.
Just a suggestion: I would say one thing a little differently. The ice age has not ended. We are still in an ice age right now. It is only the most recent period of glaciation in this ice age that ended.
The present climate is dominated by a cycle of 90,000 years of cold and 10,000 years of warm, alternating every 100,000 years. These are rounded figures; every cycle is a little different. Thus we will soon come to the end of the present interglacial period and the planet will return to a far more frigid environment, which is what most people call an “ice age”.
There is some debate regarding when the actual present ice age began. Some say it began with the Pleistocene, and in fact is called the Pleistocene Ice Age, beginning 2.5 million years ago. Others say that an ice age is defined by a permanent ice cap at either of the poles, in which case it began around 12 million years ago. Others will point to the tremendous decline in temperatures over the past 50 million years, noting that the south pole became glaciated around 34 million years ago, after which it thawed about 25 million years ago, and re-glaciated 12 million years ago.
When looking at the truly big picture, there is an ice age every 150 million years. The present one started around 12 million years ago. Or pick 30 million. Or 2.5 million. But it definitely did not end 10,000 years ago, and humanity will eventually be forced to admit this, even the warmist zealots.
Nice to see someone using their fame responsibly. Thank you!
Obviously if 2014 was the hottest year ever, the knob needs an 11
True indeed. Other scientists have 10 as the hottest. Where can you go from there ?
Its kind of weird the way the alarmists use the satellite data for sea level rise acceleration …. But dont mention satellites regarding global temperatures.
There appears to be a correlation between increasing CO2 and increasing alarmist hype.
Can somebody explain why NASA is paid $billions by taxpayers for space research and yet throws away satellite data that have also cost taxpayers $billions and relies instead on old-fashioned and unreliable land-based thermometers? Why aren’t US taxpayers up in arms?
Suggest you “Bing/Google” the following:
“Senator Cruz science panel” and you will see that Cruz wants NASA to pay more attention to space research and less on “other research”.
The Alarmists are, uh, alarmed over this possibility since it will mean NASA may not be able to champion CAGW.
Take away the NASA CAGW bias and there will be one less false cry in the night.
NASA is not very accurate lately (meaning recent decades), especially about climate.
NASA has recently claimed that Antarctica is losing a mass of ice equivalent to the mass of Mount Everest every 2 years:
http://climate.nasa.gov/news/2197/
But to reach that conclusion they considered that Mount Everest has a mass of 161 gigatons. Which is about 40 times smaller than its actual mass. “A little mistake”, which has been circling the news for almost 2 months now uncorrected.
They say that a lie has already run a couple of kilometres before the truth is able to put on its boots.
NASA’s BIG MISTAKE (that Antarctica is losing ice) is still circling, too, in spite of: Antarctic ice is increasing steadily. So (now) says NASA.

I think now would be a good time for someone to post Spencer’s spaghetti graph. I haven’t taken the time to master that type of addition to a comment.
you just have to paste in the url to the graph, eyesonu, see below, mouse or hover over and the url will show up somewhere in browser, copy paste . . .
1. Place cursor over photo.
2. Double left-click.
3. Place cursor over “http…” url in navigation bar at top left of screen.
4. Left click once to highlight the url.
5. Type Ctrl-c (for copy).
6. In WUWT comment box type Ctrl-v (for paste).
Voila! As Bubba said, Word Press software usually turns that into a picture.
I’m new to this (just did youtube videos — same thing except start at step 3. above), so I still test it on the WUWT Test page first.
Have fun!

Wham! Nice one, Gary Mount!
(and good for you, too — if it works out — to so GENEROUSLY offer to code and share that code of Monckton’s recent paper’s “irreducibly simple model.”)
I mean, NICE ONE, MICHAEL SNOW! (just pasted your url into browser and saw the photo). Thanks for sharing.
P.S. If you’d like to know how to post images on this site, see my little list of instructions here: http://wattsupwiththat.com/2015/01/17/saturday-silliness-its-the-warmist-year-evah/#comment-1838751
Nice cartoon Josh!
Our wonderful BBC sounded almost triumphant when this was announced on Friday, but of course they did not mention that it was by hundreths of a degree (an amount I would say is statistically insignificant anyway). They also did not mention that the satellite data (which is more accurate anyway) still continues to add more months on to the almost 19 years of static global temperatures.
What really hacks me off though is that all these doom-mongers seem to be wishing Armageddon on us all, just so they can be proved right!
The situation for warmists is dire. Since they fundamentally believe rising CO2 causes rising temperatures, and CO2 continues to rise, temperatures cannot be seen to decrease. They can talk around a plateau, calling it a “pause”, but they absolutely must prevent a decline. First they got rid of the high temperatures in the 1930s, then 1998 went, now 2014 is the new record. Yet future years must surpass this last one, in order to hide a decline. Future cooling is not an option.

Joking aside, did they adjust 2010 and 2005 downwards after claiming records then ?
Do you want to see the adjustments done to Reykjavik Iceland in just the last 11 months. They have taken what is already a fully quality controlled station with +0.3C of warming from 1900 to 2014 to +1.1C of warming as of last February 21, 2014 to +2.0C of warming now as of January 17, 2015.
The newest adjustments make no sense. They have taken what they think is breakpoint around 1925 and actually made it even far worse. The 1990-1925 temperatures look like they should have been adjusted UP to make up for the breakpoint (if there really is one), but instead they adjusted the 1900-1925 temperatures DOWN and adjusted the 1925 to 1940 temperatures UP, making it an even double breakpoint (if there really is one).
Open these two images in a new tab and then click back and forth to animate it and see what they have done in just the last year.
Current January 17, 2015 adjustments. The top graph is the quality controlled temperatures from Iceland Meteorological, the second one is the NCDC’s adjusted temperatures that they report to the public and the bottom is the individual annual adjustments themselves.

The same chart from last year February 21, 2014.

Last year in February, I mocked up the bottom table adjustments just to see how much difference it makes to the overall warming trend if you make this pattern of small adjustments – Down in the early part, Up in the most recent. It can make a HUGE difference just because of the way linear trend math works. You take +0.3C of warming and make it +2.0C of warming like it is now with just a few small changes in the right pattern.
Well done. Thank you for that illuminating comment.

Thanks for sharing this Ron.
Isn’t there ANY scientific institute in the world that distances itself from this fr@ud?
Even pro-AGW? +0,02C? Within the error margin?
We’re doomed.

Gavin Schmidt Climate Scientist or Clown?

Secret: Gavin is a juggler. He got into juggling to meet girls in high school.
Uh, “climate scientist”? = “no”.
He is, by the strictest of terms, a scientist who discusses climate, but when he does, he leaves true science out of the discussion by side-stepping the scientific method.
“Clown”? = also “no”. There is nothing funny about what he says and does, unless you find being pathetic a laughing matter.
However, in all fairness, it would be easy to qualify him to be a clown. Simply add a red clown nose. To make him a proper climate scientist would require him to conduct himself as a real scientist, and that, it appears, would be a difficult undertaking.
IMHO
“Secret: Gavin is a juggler. He got into juggling to meet girls in high school.”
I juggle too. I got into it while studying for exams. It is a great counterpoint for serious mental exertion – you get to rest your brain and train your reflexes. Never noticed it doing much for my social life though.
I hope it was not your intention to poke fun of Gavin just because he juggles. Apart from being insulting to recreational jugglers in general, it would be notyhing but a pointless and irrelevant ad hominem.
“Recreational jugglers”, sorry for offending graduates of clown college.
How can a temperature be ‘hottest’ when it’s not even warm ?
If your first initial is “T”, then, relatively speaking, until you tell us whether you are cold blooded or warm blooded, we can’t answer that question,
