LA Times making frantic excuses
Eric Worrall writes: The LA Times has published an article which asks whether the faithful should worry about the rapid growth of Antarctic sea ice, an observation which sharply contradicts model predictions that the ice should all be melting away.
Naturally the article concludes that their readers should not be worried.
The prevailing theory amongst researchers interviewed by the Times, seems to be that global warming is strengthening circumpolar winds. They also suggest global warming is causing increased snowfall on the ice covered ocean.
Sharon Stammerjohn, a sea ice researcher at the University of Colorado; “It makes no sense to talk about a circumpolar average. There’s so much regional variability.”
According to Stammerjohn, it’s even possible that the current growth spurt is just a short upward wiggle in a larger downward trend. “Thirty years isn’t really that long,” Stammerjohn said.

I seem to be banned from posting
[Reply: Why would you say that? ~mod.]
“Why would you say that”
Self un-fulfilling prophecy?
I have noticed since the transition to the new version of wordpress, when I post, it not only does not show up, no comment on awaiting moderation shows up either. Even if I refresh the page or the whole blog after returning from the manditory sign-in to wordpress, my comment will not show up. There is no way to tell if it posted other than waiting some unspecified time to see if it does show up.
I recall from “The Chilling Stars”, by Heinrik Svensmark and Nigel Calder, that Antarctic acts largly opposite the rest of the world. Water vapor and clouds are the BIG feedback. When there are fewer clouds, most of the eart warms, but Antarctic, with a high albedo for all that ice, cools. When there are MORE clouds, the earth as a whole cools, but Antarctica actually warms because more clouds trap more heat from being reflected away into space.
When all the ” climate scientists” spoke of a warming Antarctic, I figured that was an exercise in sympathetic magic by the ” climatologists” By SAYING the Antarctic is melting, they hoped to make it so.
Whe the Antarctic DOES start to melt, you can bet the rest of the world will be cooling.
The growth of Antarctic ice doesn’t seem very … sustainable!
“Experts” should warn us about risk of ice buildup, ocean depletion…
If the Antarctic ice builds up more- Will that accentuate or diminish Earth’s wobble?
It would have to be a hell of a lot of ice.
“Global Warming” outlived its usefulness when it was realized that it could be measured and therefor found to be a lie.
“Climate Change” is an all-encompassing phrase which is both undefinable and unmeasurable and so remains useful to politicians and climate hysterics.
Climate catastrophe science;
Oceans of OPM [ Other Peoples Money ]
The occasional real live genuine but rare scientist
A vast army of low level model jockeys all trying to figure a new way of flogging a very dead horse.
Thats “climate science” today!
It’s not as noxious as “Greenhouse Gas”, seems they select terminology based more on marketing value than scientific value.
Yes, they talk about “carbon” to make it sound like the soot in your chimney, instead of “carbon dioxide”, the bubbles in your champagne.
I apologize if someone has already pointed out, but it seems as though the CAGW advocates have overlooked the fact that an enormous amount of heat from the atmosphere or sea water will be required to melt the incremental Antarctic sea ice that has formed over the 30 year period. I won’t bother with the calculations, but if more energy was sent to earth or re radiated back to the earth and the ice started to melt, the melting would temper or eliminate heating of the atmosphere or the sea.
Looking at it this way, it is clear that the massive ice growth is not an insignificant thing. The sea ice is an enormous capacitor:
“From high school science class; it takes 144 BTUs to melt a pound of ice. That takes it to 32 degrees F. To then raise the temp to 72 deg., would take about 40 more BTUs.”
Did “they” forget or just ignore high school physics?
I realize that looking at Sea Ice area alone is a simplification and one also needs to look at the thickness.
On the other hand one also needs to look at the net considering both poles to get the overall picture
The mob needs religion, they are offered “scientists”. The “elite” (gawd how i hate that word) throw crumbs to their sycophant lab-coated toadies, who twist and turn lies, damn lies, and statistics to mean whatever they say, no more and no less. Humpty Dumpty will not be put together again by the ever leftward movement of the progs, and neither will the West. I pray the real monks of science will create their iconoclastic monasteries to rebuild another future for some part of our civilization, after this noble american experiment has been crushed into rubble by these forces of darkness. Gentlemen: good on you for your efforts to carry on with the torch of knowledge, “non-illigetimus carborundum”!
