Heh, this is from a commenter at Slashdot on Cook’s fatally flawed 97% consensus paper. While a bit harsh, it’s also funny. He responds to:
Yeah! It’s like saying that 97% of priests believe in god anyway.

Like many, I’ve sat back all day monitoring this thread and watched the MSM. I am delighted that, in the UK, only the Guardian seems to have sensationalised the 97%. The BBC, for once, having obviously seen that the statistics are totally flawed, have taken the precautionary step to ignore the story. As ever, I look forward to reading Christopher Booker in tomorrow’s Telegraph. Let’s hope that he nails it for us all.

Wait a moment – a flicker of reason at slashdot? The last place you would expect reason to reside? This is starting to look like a bad hair day for the warmists.
I thought much the same thing – As you can see from most of the other comments, Slashdot is vehemently pro AGW, and daring to suggest otherwise makes you a prime target for abuse…
Dec 10 2008 – 97% of Bernie Madoff’s clients trusted him
Dec 12 2008 – 100% of Bernie Madoff’s clients kissed goodbye to 97% of their money
97% of statisticians believe this statement. Error range: +/- 97%.
… what beats me is that people here fail to recognize that the climate (at least in the north Atlantic) has warmed since the mid nighties … the reason … who knows … but it’s a fact!

… the Soviet Union was done long before the putsch of 1991, which was just a futile attempt to avert this end. It was done as soon as people were given a choice to defend or abandon it. They made their choice based on what they knew about the reality of the Soviet Union, a.k.a. the truth, as opposed to based on what they were supposed to believe, a.k.a. the propaganda.
Is that why most of Russians wish the USSR would be back, and Vlad Putin accomodates them as much as he can? Read David Satter’s “It Was a Long Time Ago, and it Never Happened.”
Don’t be so naive, please.

Military pressure played an important role, yes. It broke the Soviet spine economically. But, as you can see in China and Vietnam, change of terminology didn’t change people much. Russia remains a land of happy slaves, thieves, and liars; most of those who could live on their own, left it already. Few stubborn old stinkers and young protesters remain but their activity is hopeless: most of Russians nstinctively need a dictatorship, because they know they cannot rely on themselves.
Alexander Feht…what you say is correct, and even more indication that we have no reason to expect OUR culture to change either: Warmism is here to rule for the foreseable future whatever facts sceptics may cite.
97% of climate research report findings cannot be reproduced.
GeeJam…just wait til tomorrow at least before giving the BBC a pass mark on this one.

“Germans really hate the British. My impression is that for many its because they resent our part in liberating them from Communism whilst for most of the rest its that they resent our part in putting down the Third Reich. For many its simply the shame of having been the school-yard bully of Europe defeated and pillaged by the school-yard “weakling”.
That said, the British abroad are such arrogant assholes, who wouldnt dislike them?”
I’m German and I think I found a great idiot.”
Yeah, …so explain the two young Germans talking to me on Oranienburger Strasse (where they’ll rub shoulders with plenty of British and other nationalities, of whom they say they hate most the French) and who told me “You are the first nice British person we’ve ever met”? They out-vote you two to one.
Being British I am much better positioned to express an opinion on this than you……Germans are forever telling me how “other” Germans hate the English, whilst plenty of those “other” Germans express it in rants. Some in the most unlikely of situations, such as the woman at a BVG info desk who screamed at me “I do not speak English, I am German, this is Germany.”. Thats a prepared rant I’ve heard twice. Other rants have been in German.
No worries, you are he idiot and I have a prepared answer for all of you: “You owe us everything you have”.
Stuff that in your meerschaum and puff it son.
…..besides which, if you aint been to sample opinion in Marzhan Hellersdorf or further East than that…then you aint got a clue what your real “compatriots” think.
…I will re-post that for clarity:

Wamron, give it a break. Anecdotal evidence is as good as TIm cook’s statistics. I can see why some Germans do not like you. However, until you have talked to a vast majority of them, you have no case.
And your rants are a distraction.
