Heh, this is from a commenter at Slashdot on Cook’s fatally flawed 97% consensus paper. While a bit harsh, it’s also funny. He responds to:

Like many, I’ve sat back all day monitoring this thread and watched the MSM. I am delighted that, in the UK, only the Guardian seems to have sensationalised the 97%. The BBC, for once, having obviously seen that the statistics are totally flawed, have taken the precautionary step to ignore the story. As ever, I look forward to reading Christopher Booker in tomorrow’s Telegraph. Let’s hope that he nails it for us all.

I thought much the same thing – As you can see from most of the other comments, Slashdot is vehemently pro AGW, and daring to suggest otherwise makes you a prime target for abuse…

Military pressure played an important role, yes. It broke the Soviet spine economically. But, as you can see in China and Vietnam, change of terminology didn’t change people much. Russia remains a land of happy slaves, thieves, and liars; most of those who could live on their own, left it already. Few stubborn old stinkers and young protesters remain but their activity is hopeless: most of Russians nstinctively need a dictatorship, because they know they cannot rely on themselves.

Being British I am much better positioned to express an opinion on this than you……Germans are forever telling me how “other” Germans hate the English, whilst plenty of those “other” Germans express it in rants. Some in the most unlikely of situations, such as the woman at a BVG info desk who screamed at me “I do not speak English, I am German, this is Germany.”. Thats a prepared rant I’ve heard twice. Other rants have been in German.

Wamron, give it a break. Anecdotal evidence is as good as TIm cook’s statistics. I can see why some Germans do not like you. However, until you have talked to a vast majority of them, you have no case.
