Quote of the week – I guess we're just beyond evil now

Here’s the QOTW, a comment left on a YouTube video:

Very well done. Except, unfortunately, history will show that climate denialists are worse than nazis.

What prompted that? This:

I suppose it was only a matter of time before the Hitler video was used on me. It can be used to parody just about anything. The best part is that it provides a window into the mindset of the creator, , plus the people that are doing the piling on in comments like the one above.

Gosh. All this denigration because I have an opinion and dare to write about it with citations. Yes, surely that’s just as bad (or worse as the commenter says) as putting millions of innocent people in gas chambers or shooting them in mass trenches. The comparison made by the commenter is so absurd that it overshadows the satire. It’s laughable.

I suppose we can thank Ellen Goodman for popularizing this connection:

I would like to say we’re at a point where global warming is impossible to deny. Let’s just say that global warming deniers are now on a par with Holocaust deniers, though one denies the past and the other denies the present and future. – Ellen Goodman, Boston Globe, February 9, 2007 “No change in political climate”

Obviously, since I posted it here, I don’t mind the satirical video, because it still isn’t as bad as the time I was labeled as having sex with farm animals (scroll down to bottom) for asking for a factual correction to an article.

I’ve been insulted by professionals, this is just an amateur effort. 😉

NOTE TO COMMENTERS/MODERATORS: Keep it clean in comments. I thought about not having comments at all, but I’m sure many readers would have something insightful to add. If you don’t, don’t comment. Moderators, you have carte blache to bit bucket any hateful comments.  – Anthony

Derek, you’ve just demonstrated who’s really vicious. Now, let’s see who’s really anti-science.

Please don’t waste your time with Derek the lazy Dalek.

I was going to suggest that this post be in German and that all commenter’s use a translator just to mess with their tiny brains.

Strange, then, that the Antarctic is near record ice levels. Does not compute.

We’re at Gandhi’s “and then they fight you” stage.
What do you say Derek?

“First they ignore you, then they laugh at you, then they fight you, then you win.”
Is it clear that WUWT Blog and “deniers” in general (as the CAGW camp often call us) are in the “fight you” stage.
Not long now. Public opinion is definitely shifting.
It must be frustrating to those who have so much vested in the false religion of CAGW. All their self-importance and higher than thou Eco-evangelism.
Only 4 years ago, mass Western CAGW and Eco-hysteria was at a peak. Princes and Presidents and Vice Presidents had for years been trying to out do each other in catastrophic predictions and promises to save the planet.
President Obama in his inaugural Democratic nomination speech actually promised to begin to slow the rise of the oceans and to heal the planet! (perhaps the very peak?)
This once bold and visionary statement from Obama now looks extremely pompous and ludicrous to a public jaded after 4 years of many grand prognostications, grand plans and largely ineffectual profligate spending.
After accruing massive indebtedness and the to-big-to-fail financial scandals, CAGW and Eco-evangelism will simply become another footnote in the annals of history. Just another signpost of a failing Western Society, which abandoned progress, science and intellectual integrity. Perhaps the Asians will one day mention us in the history books, just as Western classrooms reference Greece and Rome today.

The scientific consensus, UN, EU, US president, world leaders and NGO’s must be very insecure and threatened if they need to attack an unknown “blog scientist”.

Anthony,
This is the only time I’ll ever recommend a quote by Canada’s former PM, Pierre Elliot Trudeau: when told that Richard Nixon had called him an “a$$hole”, Trudeau remarked that he had been called “worse things, by better people.”

Nothing surprising here. Hitler is the great secular satan of the post-Boomer generations; the avatar of evil. The Faithful are those who toss a pinch of black carbon over their left shoulder should the sequestration container tip over on the table. Those who don’t genuflect in such a manner are obviously evil, and so properly compared to the avatar of evil. It’s simply an exhibition of moral touchstones.
However, of significant benefit, is that the witch hunts this time around won’t include the auto da fe; since you are a carbon based organism. Though that means only that organic bathing with a dunking stool is likely still on the menu. Unless, you can show that it leads to anoxic conditions or bleaches coral.

GeoLurking says: “On 13 March [1933], Goebbels had his reward for his part in bringing the Nazis to power by being appointed Reich Minister of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda … with a seat in the Cabinet.”
I’ve watched several of Goebbels’s speeches and wonder if he was hired to make Hitler’s speeches look sane by comparison.

In our corrupt society, we have to recognize the massive slurs directed at WUWT are, in reality, the NEW Nobel Prize.
Congrats, Anthony!
(And you don’t even have to share it with Al Gore….)

I have yet to meet a climate denier.

We have them right where we want them. The alarmists are lashing out like cornered animals. That their argument holds no water is obvious to us but it now has no currency among politicians. Their constituents no longer want to pay for the smugness of appearing to take action on a non-problem. The real problem facing citizens is that they personally can no longer stomach (or afford) what amounts to a luxury tax, the luxury meaning economic success.
We have to continue to goad the climate extremists into making extreme statements. Nothing turns moderate, reasonable people off more than that kind of rhetoric.

The onslaught is just as expected. We will have to weather the storm, as it were, until they are obliged to start pointing to exceptional cold as proof of global warming – again.

Who ist dis Godwin, and vye does he say ve have lost ze argument?

For the one or two people who don’t already know:

“As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1.”[2][3] In other words, Godwin observed that, given enough time, in any online discussion—regardless of topic or scope—someone inevitably makes a comparison to Hitler and the Nazis.

” there is a tradition in many newsgroups and other Internet discussion forums that once such a comparison is made, the thread is finished and whoever mentioned the Nazis has automatically lost whatever debate was in progress”

Whoever made the video hasn’t paid much attention to this web site. There hasn’t been a guest post from Steven Goddard here in about 2 years.

Also, “fact checkers” usually don’t put much focus on left wing videos, columns, and such. So the errors in this video are likely safe from them.

remember its important to do the opposite of what they want you to do . when they use anger , bitterness & resentment we must respond with politeness , charm & decency . not only is it the right thing to do it also wrong-foots them far more than ad homs or profanity . antony i believe you have the patience of a saint .

I can never see reference to the Nazis without thinking about the historical context and how what happened was pretty predictable, yet denied or ignored by almost anyone who thinks they have something to say about that period of history – and so often, as now, that has a lot to say about the people playing that Nazi card..
The Nazis have been for 60+ years some kind of cartoon scapegoat, some way of removing ourselves from association with evil. Many library shelves are dedicated to how grotesque and deranged they were, and yes I will insert here the obligatory acknowledgement that they were, but people cannot get their heads around the fact that something of this sort is a completely predictable reaction to the conditions that existed in Germany in the ’20s and ’30s.
IMO, the best parallel to Germany in the ’20s is detailed in the much unread and ignored book, “The Mountain People” by Colin Turnbull (you can Google it). That book details, in a scholarly manner, what happened to a tribe of pastoralists when they were stripped of the basis of their culture and their means of livelihood. As one might imagine, it was not pretty.
If the Environuts have their way we will see the same here one day. But those who argue for balance and caution are the evil ones. The word for today, nay everyday, is HUBRIS.
So it goes.

I am not a climate scientist. I am fairly smart, but I think that it is difficult to intelligently analyze this dispute between the conflicting climate scientists . I personally think that Al Gore and his buddies are wrong. But, I am not certain that I am right. I also feel that this debate will be going on for many more years.
Even though this debate will be going on for a very long time, I believe that less damage will be done to our economy and more good will come to our planet and its inhabitants if we get a problem solving businessman to run the show !
Go Mitt and Go Clint !

I always wondered how Daleks can be so evil when they can’t even climb stairs. I would have just parked the telephone box on the second floor.

They can levitate. IIRC, it usually comes as a surprise, even to the Doctor. Perhaps he forgets between incarnations. http://tardis.wikia.com/wiki/Remembrance_of_the_Daleks_%28TV_story%29

It says something about “warming” if the ice is actually “melting.” From the sea ice reference page, it looks like temps have been below freezing for a couple of weeks now, and never got higher than average when they were above freezing.

Thing is.. A lot of them really believe and i mean are utterly convinced that a climate holocaust is just around the corner.

Except absolutely none of them believe it enough to stop using modern conveniences and relying on a fossil fuel energy infrastructure.

Congratulations for that affirmation of how much influence Watts Up With That has achieved.
This is quantified by comparing Alexa’s

Statistics Summary for wattsupwiththat.com
Wattsupwiththat.com is ranked #19,387 in the world according to the three-month Alexa traffic rankings. While about 40% of this site’s visitors are in the US, where it is ranked #8,374, it is also popular in New Zealand, where it is ranked #1,634. This site can be found in the “Climate Change Skeptics” category of sites. . . . Wattsupwiththat.com’s visitors view an average of 2.3 unique pages per day.

Daily reach ~ 0.01%
That is a marked contrast with Alexa’s:

Statistics Summary for realclimate.org
RealClimate’s three-month global Alexa traffic rank is 154,675. The site has been online for at least seven years. The site has attained a traffic rank of 5,816 among users in Thailand, where approximately 27% of its audience is located. Relative to the overall population of internet users, the site’s audience tends to be over the age of 45; they are also disproportionately both uneducated and highly educated, childless, higher-income men browsing from school and home. Visitors to Realclimate.org spend approximately 49 seconds on each pageview and a total of 88 seconds on the site during each visit.
