The GWPF and Jo Nova web sites down

Many people have emailed me to ask what is going on, here’ s what I’ve found out.

Bishop Hill reports:

A couple of readers have emailed to say that GWPF’s website is down. I emailed Benny Peiser and he says that there are technical issues of some kind. The site will remain down for a couple of days. I gather that email is also affected, so anyone wishing to contact them should telephone instead.

Which explains why my query to Peiser was not answered.  Never put your email and web server int he same basket.

Jo Nova’s website is also experiencing problems. She’s had a lot of technical trouble since she moved to a new provider. I expect this to be no different.

No cause for alarm.

Or panic madly and bite people. I prefer that one.

Oh sure, Anthony. Shoot down my ‘Climate Rapid Response Team – Anti-Blog Hacking Division” theory before I’ve even got it all written up. 😉

How about Lucia’s “The Blackboard”?
I keep getting “Error 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): The connection was reset.” pages…

It’s probably our Aussie Labor Government and their minions trying to shut us all up….. They seem to be attacking free speech and a free media at the moment. 😉
I jest…. But in a small corner of my mind I can’t help wonderin’.
…. anyway, JoNova is back up.

Well you could take a page out of the TEAMS playbook and write it up and run with it anyways.

I’m very curious what these attacks are. They seem to be increasing. Would be worth a post.

Could this be an attack and/or related to Steve McIntyre speaking Thursday, 16 August 2012, 3pm at Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, 1 Carlton House Terrace, London SW1Y 5DB ??

Makes sense: they are anti-free speech after all.

When you try to go to the GWPF website , you get a page that states “This account has been suspended”

I am wondering.
I’m a senior and not terribly well versed with the high tech world but I thought I would mention that over the last few months, my icon for Anthony’s WUWT blog disappears every week or so. No other icon has done this.
In addition, it keeps disappearing from my favourites file. Am I the only one experiencing this? Are these just senior moments? Again, this is the only one.
Just wondering.

Interesting. I wonder if the legal entities would even lift a finger to go after whoever is behind the attacks.
Probably not, they are just hired thugs anyway. (I can be proven wrong… provided a law enforcement agency has the integrity to go after them with as much zeal as they apparently have for alleged attacks against pro-warming bleaters.)

Delete, renew, transfer and update prohibited? For a an expiry date of only 4 days past? That’s a bit rugged. A good reason to change hosting or providers, methinks. Benny (or his administrator) should have got the renewal reminder emails every week for the past two months.

I didn’t want to speculate on the source of Jo Nova’s website outages which have been ongoing for the last few months. It does seem that it is getting a DDOS attack every two to three weeks. The forbidden message is a result of an automated script which modifies the attacked file permissions to protect the larger server infrastructure from going down. Which, means Jo’s email will still work even though you can’t view her site.
We have a global team that works(for free) around the clock to keep Jo’s site up. We try to reduce any outages the site may suffer to a minimum.

I had issues with accessing a couple of sites last week. Seems to have been caused by corrupted cookies. A couple of sweeps through the ‘puter with a cookie cleaner prog sorted the problem. Of course it had taken me three days of fiddling to figure it out.
I sometimes wonder if half the problems with the internet are because there are too many people/idjuts/duffers like me using it.???

For PC users it pays to keep your computers updated and virus-free. Keep only the few cookies that are necessary (Under Windows I recommend CCleaner for this).
See my “PC Security” page at http://www.oarval.org/avalencia/Secureen.htm
For webmasters, well, we are supposed to know what we are doing.
