… plus ça same old stuff. Thank goodness somethings never change. For example, the “Gore Effect”, which says that wherever His Nobelity Albert Gore III might hold a Climastravaganza to remind the world of the critical and imminent climate overheating that we can only avert by sending him some more money, it will be way below the average temperature for that location and time.
Heck, even Antarctica can’t resist the Gore effect. Case in point? Big Al, along with the failed serial doomcaster James Hansen and billionaire Richard Branson, are currently in the Weddell Sea, off the Antarctic Peninsula, just chillin’ with the penguins.
Figure 1. Global temperature anomalies, February 2, 2012. Scale is degrees C above or below historical averages for the day.
And when I say chillin’ … I do mean chillin’ …
Both Dick and Al are blah-gging about their trip. Al sez:
As the world warms, its waters are warming, too. Increased temperatures have already led to changes in ocean life. For example, on the other side of the Peninsula, king crabs have invaded an area previously considered far too cold for their survival. The impact of the arrival of these predators, for the first time in millions of years, could be catastrophic for the surrounding ecosystem, which has evolved exotic and unique life forms that have no defenses against crabs.
I know how Al feels, I had the crabs once myself and felt defenceless. Meanwhile, Dick sez:
The planet is changing before our eyes. We are heating it up.
From the sound of it you’d think that they were baking down there in Antarctica, like they’d seen all kinds of warmer than normal temperatures, penguins wearing sunhats, leopard seals changing their spots, or something warm and not all that fuzzy.
But if you look at Figure 1, you’ll see that the area right where they are is running about 15°C (27°F) colder than normal … and normal even in the summer is kinda cold to start with.
Thank goodness for the Gore effect. Just think of what rubbish those jokers would have written if it had been 27°F warmer than normal down there, or 54°F warmer than what they are actually experiencing … we’d never have heard the end of it. They would have blogged every drop of sweat running down the side of their iced drinks on the cruise ship. Glad to see that justice still can prevail.
Regards to everyone,
w.

Geeze Louise… some people have no brains (or sense ‘k humor as Popeye was fond of saying)! I was NOT recommending ANY “personal injury to Gore”! I was just pointing out that his negative influence on temperature in his immediate vicinity is so severe (in a humorous, tongue-in-cheek way) that he could be used as a marvelous “heat sink” and cause extreme cold (even without an electrical power supply) –here’s what “cryogenic” means:
In physics, cryogenics is the study of the production of very low temperature (below −150°C, −238°F or 123K) and the behavior of materials at those temperatures. A person who studies elements under extremely cold temperature is called a cryogenicist. (Emphasis mine.)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cryogenics (My apologies for using Wikipedia, but if representatives of “Orwell’s police state” show up at my door, I’m sure they’ve heard of Wikipedia and would find that explanation more acceptable than had I used any other reference source.)
Maybe Al Gore is an ardent cryogenicist! Or because he CAUSES the cold rather than just brings it, maybe he’s a walking, breathing cryogenicite. (That’s a new word, but the embodiment of the Gore Effect needs a name.)

n.
1. The act of embodying or the state of being embodied.
2. One that embodies:
PS> I still live in a Christian, Constitutional period. That “they” don’t is not my problem–I’ll also explain that to the “Thought Police” when and if they show up. I just hope they don’t bring Al along–I’m enjoying our relatively warm winter weather. Let him stay in Antarctica until we need a temperature depression somewhere else.
It’s settled: nobody’s cooler than Al!

Oh, come on…all the data point to St. AlGore being in Alaska where, we hear, it is really freaking cold.
no he will be coming to Europe after he’s done Antarctica. Just saying.
-10 last night here in Normandy, which is about 13C colder than normal.
Re: Vostok Lake and Russian Scientists.
From what I have read, Lake Vostok is under tremendous pressure and has dissolved gases in its water. Relieving all that pressure through the bore hole could cause a major eruption or explosion like a warm champagne bottle…
They could become encased in solid ice spray for millions of years…
I hope they know what they are doing….
I’d suggest remote controlled drilling, in case Murphy’s Law shows up.
Hope they are safe and well.
Branson has some need from time to time to alternate from needing CO2 to prevent the next ice age to traveling with PT Barnum Al. This is because the other part of Branson’s schedule includes announcements of new and expanded flight service for Virgin Air and its huge CO2 emissions. So you could view the trip with PT Barnum Al as a form of carbon trading purchase as offset to Virgin Air. In any event it’s all a pathetic circus show with animals.
Here is an article describing risks and dangers of the Russian drilling project…

Risky business…
After Antarctica, they maybe could drop by my house. The local river Great Ouse has frozen over, all due to global warming. (I’m in the UK…)

“Does Hansen do ANYTHING remotely relevant to his NASA job?”
I’m pretty sure he picks his nose from time to time…

Ooooh, I like that a lot. Al could set up shop doing a steady string of “Climate Pre-penance Tours”, under the slogan “Have fun while you really look like you care!”. That way, if you are about to cut loose with a massive eructation of methane and other natural gases, or like Dick you have some upcoming giant increase in your CO2 output, you can just sign on and offset all of your future sins of comission, omission, and emission.
Money to be made there, folks, dollars on the table …
In any case, what’s the over/under that Al is making a profit on this trip, or at a minimum covering his own costs?

PS—Sometimes these guys just make it too easy for us, it’s what I call a “target-rich environment”.
Anthony,
It occurs to me that the wonderful Sea Ice page that you’ve
provided could use a chart like the temperature chart above
80 degrees North for the Antarctic. Just an idea. And I do not
know if there is a source.
How about finally using Gore effect for something useful? Let’s make all future climate change congresses on the North pole and we won’t have to worry about sea ice extent anymore…
Reblogged this on EEEEEMail and commented:
Cool man, that Al!

‘……..Geeze Louise… some people have no brains (or sense ‘k humor as Popeye was fond of saying)! I was NOT recommending ANY “personal injury to Gore”! ……’
—————————————————————————————————————————–
You are correct: Some have no brains and no humour!
Two British tourists were barred from entering America after joking on Twitter that they were going to ‘destroy America’ and ‘dig up Marilyn Monroe’.
Leigh Van Bryan, 26, was handcuffed and kept under armed guard in a cell with Mexican drug dealers for 12 hours after landing in Los Angeles with pal Emily Bunting.
The Department of Homeland Security flagged him as a potential threat when he posted an excited tweet to his pals about his forthcoming trip to Hollywood which read: ‘Free this week, for quick gossip/prep before I go and destroy America?’ …….’
Enough said!
Alert! If you look real quick at the Sea Ice Page, the South Pole Cam has got a human figure in the picture. It may be Al! 🙂
(useful to get some “scale”, in any case…)

The impact of the arrival of these predators, for the first time in millions of years, …
Good grief.
I would have thought Goreblimey would know- with all the flying about he does,- the earth has different time and weather zones!(We learnt it as climate zones at school 50 yrs ago, but it is a dirty word now so I’ll s use weather)
What is amazing is that there ware still people listening to such “climate change/global warming” mountebanks!.
Vostok update:
According to the Russians contact is not lost and everything is normal.
OK I know the Russians may not be the best example of transparency & efficient communication, but the source of the “scare” seem the have come from Fox…
I’ve been struggling to find a reason for Gore’s trip, given that he’s going to a place that is disobeying all the commands of AGW models.
I think I found it:
http://gcaptain.com/antarctica-calve-massive-iceberg/?39110
I think he hopes to be there for this massive calving. Expect, then, excited, doom-filled blogging about this “unexpected” “gigantic” calving “unprecedented in history” that they
“accidentally” witnessed.
Al Bore brought his Solar panels and windmills with him to declare the global warming crisis is over.
Wow, now I’m really worrying – it’s just started to snow here in Sunny Sussex, where good old Dick Branson has a nice sea-side property. Perhaps the ‘Gore Effect’ is a disease and the epidemic is spreading??? We’re all doomed by all this global warming… 🙂
At times like this, I feel glad that I can take my Al Gore Snow Globe, wind it up so it plays “If I Only Had A Brain”, shake it, and watch him deal with a blizzard.
http://www.noblewarprize.com/product_info.php/products_id/53
You can just picture the nauseating spectacle of the bloated Al Gore and all the other chiefs, having a good ole knees-up in between blowing smoke up each other’s jacksy.
Let’s hope they have as cold and as miserable a time as possible – no languishing on deck with cocktails, now that The Gore Effect has properly kicked in.
You’d have thought that the slug-in-a-suit would’ve wound his neck in after The Gore-a-Thon tanked in September. Shame we have to hear this crapola again.
}:o(
See, I think we can end global warming simply by cutting Al Gore up into small pieces and distributing a relic of his Holiness to each national chapter of Greenpeace, WWF, and the World Federalist Society. Thus the cooling will be evenly distributed.
New prediction: This Gore-Branson trip will eventually morph into a new phase in which corporations and government agencies are all expected to have executive level climate change officers to go along with the rising trend of cabinet-level chief diversity officers. You heard it here first.
@ResourceGuy:
When you said ‘Branson’, I had to roll all the way back to the top, in the fear that ol’ Weird Al has invaded Branson, Missouri and is putting on a show there. Now *that* would be an interesting culture clash. I’d pay good money to see that — I think I have a dead cat, some rotten eggs and tomatoes somewhere…
