Joe Bastardi resigns at Accuweather after 32 years

From Joe Bastardi’s Fan Page at Facebook:

Farewell to Joe Bastardi who has left AccuWeather after a distinguished 32-year career. We appreciate Joe’s dedicated service to our clients over these many years and wish him luck with all his endeavors. In addition, a hearty congratulations to two great meteorologists who will both be taking on expanded roles — Paul Pastelok is now leader of AccuWeather’s Long-Range Forecasting team and Henry Margusity is taking an expanded role with the Pro site.

We can answer any (reasonable) questions here (at the Facebook page). Thanks for your support over the years.

Further info from Examiner.com:

“AccuWeather.com community director Jesse Ferrell stated in the AccuWeather forums that he has not spoken to Joe [Bastardi] and does not know his reasoning, or what he is planning to do next.”

And, in the comments section, Jesse Ferrell left a note:  “Can definitively say that his stance on Climate Change did not have anything to do with his departure.”

[Addition by Anthony below]

“Can definitively say that his stance on Climate Change did not have anything to do with his departure.” I’ve been aware of Bastardi’s departure since early last week, and I can second that. It’s simply about economics and workload.

Though, that doesn’t stop Joe Romm from spinning into a “climate related” issue, insinuating that Bastardi was “let go” over Romm’s idiotic postings about Bastardi’s views on climate change. Heh, it’s fun to watch the self delusion going on over there.

No, this is all about new opportunity. Mr. Bastardi can forecast without a net, he doesn’t need Accu-Weather to perform the job, only data.

I’m wondering if Fox News is planning a counter to The Weather Channel and if Joe is part of that. Weather seems to be a weak spot in their broadcasting. After all, there is already Fox News, Fox Business, and Fox Sports. Fox Weather next?

I suspect Joe found a better oppurtunity elsewhere. His skills as a long term forecaster are in high demand. So are his on camera skills. I imagine the folks at Accuweather will see a lot less hits on thier site.

Thanks for your services Joe, I admire your enthusiasm for the truth and commense sense portrayal of the weather and hope that you continue doing what you love to do. It was you that opened my eyes to WUWT and to what is really happening out there, for that I will always be grateful. Good Luck!

There is no one more in the Global Warming tank than their Canadian meteorologist. He has joined hook line and sinker.
Joe, best regards wherever and whatever the future holds. Thanks for the sanity.

Both the links provided by Jimbo and Les Francis have been taken down. Looks like Joe has been given the cardboard box treatment and escorted by security staff from the building. Pity. Best wishes to Joe from Dorset in England. I shall miss his common sense and his accuracy – neither qualities being possessed by the Met Office.

JB was THE reason I subscribed to Accuweather Pro in order to access his almost daily video blogs “The Big Dog” and “the Long Ranger”. He taught me much of what I know about weather through those videos. I will have to reconsider my subscription now.

Best wishes. Too bad the three Meyers did not who to treasure. I just ended my subscription to AccuWeather because they would not let me “choose” to renew each year. Was about to get there anyway. Too much AGW nonsense and not very accurate predictions for Los Angeles weather. But Joe was great. Joe, please let us know where you are and what you are doing; it seems you have many followers here. Thanks, Anthony, for the post and for keeping the information straight about Joe’s resignation. Of course, he still was not “treasured” or it seems he would have been given the time and space to do more of what he was so good at.

Dang that is too bad. Joe was the reason I went to Accuweather everyday. Good luck Joe! Let us know where you land.

Good luck Joe. Look forward to you getting a bigger platform from which to speak and teach about weather, climate and forecasts.
All the Best!

“Wait a year, then Bastardi will inform us how he misinformed the world about AGW and why he did”.
RR Kampen, you’re so out of line.
Why don’t you come up with real hard evidence about Joe Bastardi “misinforming the World about AGW” instead of below the belt remarks without merit.

It seems to me that AccuWeather is losing lot’s of visitors.
Joe Bastardi will bring his own crowd.
Isn’t that great.
Enjoy the crowd as long as I stay on the job because it’s the only crowd you get.

JB was the only one at Accuweather with any kind of knowledge about what is really occuring with our weather.Since it hapened so fast ,with no warning, it makes you really wonder if his stance on future forecast and the fact he doesn’t buy into the global warming saga wasn’t the reason he resigned.I feel sure Accuweather will be hurt by his departure in terms of cliants.I ‘m not a cliant though enjoyed listening to him but I can say for sure i’m finished with Accuweather.
I will tell this story on accuweather.I’ve posted many time on thier site .One day last fall there was a story that Brett Anderson had wrote about something cauesd by global warming.Well I replid to his post and asked how he could sleep at night lieing to the American people and how GW was a load .Well the next day I received a warning from Accuwether about personal attacks. But you know last month JB came out with fact showing how the earth is cooling and ther were many personal attacks on him .I guess it only matter to Accuweather which side of the fence you are on.

Agree with several previous posters that Joe’s sudden departure + the recent AGW shilling occurring by others at AccuWeather makes it look like something happened there. But the way I read Anthony’s addendum he seems to completely rule that out. I hope you can shed some light on this Joe! I endorse the calls for some guest posting here.
Of course on the bright side this leaves open the grand possibility of an insanely awesome triumvirate of Joe Bastardi, Anthony Watts and Ryan Maue joining forces maybe under the guidance of a true pioneer, John Coleman, and forming a new syndicated television weather outlet!
My motives are selfish of course, because such a channel might be able to compete with, or better yet replace that rookie league {self-snip} propaganda ridden piece of {self-snip} useless {self-snip} TWC on my cable system.
Perhaps call it ASWC All-Star Weather Channel or AWC Actual Weather Channel or RWC Real Weather Channel! Three people, three shifts, ya know. Think of the possibilities! The list of guest stars could be amazing (Willis on location from the South Pacific, Piers Corbyn from the UK). Instead of that ‘Storm Stories’ seen elsewhere, you could air segments with WUWT exposes. Instead of that incestuous crossover they do with MSNBC, you might drag in FNC just for fun to see certain talking heads explode.
But I digress.

I don’t agree with Joe’s stance on several key climate issues (not the least of which was his position on the future direction of sea ice extent)…but I respect him and wish him well. Somehow I suspect we’ve not heard the last of Joe…
===========================
As always…your comments are always your own little argument from authority, as if you are on the same plane as Bastardi.
Nobody really cares that much on whether you “agree” with him or not. You might, but that’s about it.
But its good to know that you at least respect Bastardi…as well you should.
He is brilliant, free-thinking meteorological powerhouse, and SHOULD be respected, such respect not hinging on yours or others’ [mine included] opinion of him.

I could not agree more.
Maybe he will start his own company anew….to compete directly with them.
Guess I won’t be renewing my subscription there. Joe made it fun.

Accuweather was a favorite. Which site is now a favorite, or at least a fallback?
Comments from those with opinions?

Joe:
Will miss your blog, and video updates and your keen insight to climate change, pattern recognition and not worshiping the models. I have cancelled my subscription at the Pro Site.

Good Luck to my buddy ‘Jumpin Joe Bastardi’, whose father led him in the only direction he could go – weather forecasting. Nobody that I know is more enthusiastic about forecasting than Joe. If only we could package and sell his enthusiasm.
Over the years Joe and I may have had a few small differences about hurricanes, but on the subject of AGW Joe and I are 100 percent on the same track. And we’re both going to be proven right. Keep saying it ain’t so, Joe! I’m with you all the way.
Warmest regards, Bill Gray

I think JB is great! Let me add my 2 bits of speculation to the mix.
My first thought was JB could show up somewhere on FNC, Roger Ailes tossed a nice bone to Juan Williams after he got canned by PBS. However, since he resigned, I would guess there could be something bigger. He would be a great mouthpiece for a well financed, high profile organization that is trying to get the truth out to the masses. His media background gives him the ability to get his message out effectively. (gee, kinda like another ‘weatherman’ we know!)
Regardless of where he ends up, he is smart and talented, and in this great country, he will have many great options!
