Patchy refuses to resign, intends to complete next IPPC report

From the BBC’s Richard Black:

And the train keeps on chugging along…

But while some figures outside the IPCC have called for Dr Pachauri’s head, government delegates here supported him continuing in post.

“I not only have the mandate to oversee the completion of AR5, but having been one of the two parties that requested a review by the IAC (the other being the UN), I now also have a commitment to oversee the implentation of the reforms that have come out of the review process.

“So I have every intention of staying right until I have completed the mission I accepted voluntarily to carry out, namely the conclusion of AR5 in 2014.”

– Rajenda Pachauri

….

The revised guidance emphasises that in future, authors must assess both the quality of research available and uncertainties within that research.

It urges authors to be careful of “group-think”, but maintains that it “may be appropriate to describe findings for which the evidence and understanding are overwhelming as statements of fact without using uncertainty qualifiers”.

Enhanced guidance on the use of “grey literature” – material not published in peer-reviewed scientific journals – has also been drawn up, and will be finalised by chairs of the IPCC’s working groups in the coming months.

I echo the glee expressed at Pachauri’s stubborn determination to stay in his position… the longer the better. The only way the situation could possibly be worse for the IPCC would be to add Gore as a chief scientific advisor and quote Pachauri’s racy novel in AR5 as a reference.
The lil train that couldn’t…

Well what did you expect from the U.N., just more glad handing and cronyism. I did not think he would step down or be fired. But one thing for sure is as others have said trust once lost is hard to get back. And as far as the U.N. is concerned i do not think much if any in this world have ever really trusted them to begin with. With that said , I am glad to be back after 2 and half months, my laptop was stolen and finally got a new one.

He will spend the next 4 years using his post as Chairman “adjusting his financial position”. Pity the suckers who buy from him.

“So I have every intention of staying right until I have completed the mission I accepted voluntarily to carry out, namely the conclusion of AR5 in 2014.”
I would personally add:
“Plus the overseeing of ongoing funding to my charity, grants, donations, publishing and investments”

You say the “train keeps on chugging along” I take it that is the gravy train of funding, trips and sponsorship? For him and his companies and study groups. He wouldn’t want to give that up, it all adds up to a “nice little earner” as Richard North points out at http://eureferendum.blogspot.com/

He was never going to go,
“In spite of this report being all things to all men, it did not criticise the IPCC process and whilst many have seen it as a call for Dr Pachauri to resign, panel chairman Harold Shapiro, was at pains, in a recent interview, to insist that no such interpretation should be made:
“It was beyond our charter to even look at whether the current leadership was adequate or inadequate or super-terrific, and so we did not look. This suggestion [of term limits], from our point of view, does not come from any lack of confidence in the current director. It’s something we simply did not address.
We don’t recommend any change in the director’s position. We do propose a new position called executive director, who would head the secretariat in Geneva. We believe that should be a senior scientist, responsible for day-to-day operations of the secretariat and of the overall assessment.”

During WW11 Churchill decided to proscribe all attempts to assassinate Hitler as he figured The Allies would have a better chance of winning with the enemy led by an incompetent military commander.

This should be given a wider airing: The reseach was done by Richard Northa year ago and involves and in an indian court case where a judge ruled that Pachauri had “suppressed material facts and they have sworn to false affidavits”
The original court document of the judement is here: http://www.indiankanoon.org/doc/290167/
And this is a extract from Richard North’s EUREferendum citing the contents of court document:
the judge was entirely unconvinced, declaring that the three officers of the Council, including Mr (sic) Pachauri, ” have suppressed material facts and they have sworn to false affidavits.”
The Judge went on to say that the defendant had acted in a very arbitrary way, stating: “such things could not be tolerated in a democratic set up.” In a coruscating indictment, he then declared:
And I am afraid, that the affairs and the efficient management of the Centre are not safe in the hands of officers like … Dr R K Pachauri … and they had ignored that the officers have to function as a public functionaries within the parameters of the Constitution.
A year after that judgement, Pachauri was elected to become co-chair of the IPCC. He is still on the Governing Council of the Habitat Centre and between September 2004 and September 2006 was its president.
http://eureferendum.blogspot.com/2009/12/hypocrite-as-well-as-liar.html
So there you have it, the chairman of the IPCC has been told he cannot be trusted to tell the truth under oath to the court.
And then we have the conflicts of interest; the Voodoo Science smear; the TERI-Europe accounts that underrepresented the income of the charity by 85%.
What does it take to make others on the IPCC panel sit up and say we cannot be associated with this man?

Pssst………. maybe we can get him to retire from the IPCC if we all go out and buy his book and then nominate him for the next Nobel In Liturature. Of course everything would have to be in writing and it might be a good idea to get it on DVD too. He’s pretty shifty.
PS: No you don’t have to read the book, heck you don’t even have to take it out of the brown paper bag; just toss it in the recycle bin, maybe someone else will have better luck with the ink and paper. Think about it! Nothing in life is free. Paying off a worthless politician isn’t new science. And, who knows, maybe they won’t even appoint a new chair; maybe they’ll actually have the committee VOTE on something all by themselves.
PPS: No! No! No! The Nobel Prize doesn’t mean anything any more, it’s just a bribe money outlet for the latest European Blue Blood Save-The-Earth Cause Of The Day. They’ll vote for anyone, for anything, any day of the week. Remember Al Gore?

“And the train keeps on chugging along…”
That’s the gravy train that keeps money rolling in for Patchy and TERI.

“have the mandate”… From whom? From where does this “mandate” come?
Who is the “kingmaker” behind him?…

The UN is so corrupted by greed and power it’s mind boggling. Patchy fits right in. The entire organization should be abandoned. That someone as obviously corrupt as Patchy doesn’t get the boot after being caught red-handed over and over in conflicts of interest is hard evidence that there is little interest in cleaning it up.
