WUWT's story on 10:10 – 3rd most popular on WordPress globally – even in New Zealand

People are really ticked off about this 10:10 video, and it isn’t abating. The story is making it’s way up the news food chain. Hits are increasing on it. This afternoon, this WUWT story reached #3 on WordPress.

Not too shabby when wordpress.com says this:

The best of 341,031 bloggers, 1,527,765 new posts, 362,603 comments, & 210,061,304 words today on WordPress.com.

But there’s a fun twist in the stats, read on.

I had to laugh though, because even though traffic is soaring through the roof today, I find that I’ve been given a new nickname by a blogger in New Zealand who thinks the vile gore-packed short film of exploding skeptical children is “funny”. He goes on to say in comments:

click for original thread

Wow.

Mr. Gareth Renowden, founder of what is supposed to be the leading site on global warming in New Zealand, “Hot Topic” thinks it’s all about failure to have a “sense of humor”. Perhaps this is what truffle growers turned AGW proponent might think…

His public Twitter profile

…but based on traffic and the sampling of opinions posted, it surely isn’t what the rest of the world thinks.

But, back to the nickname.

Gareth has coined a new one for me. It’s funny. He included it in his update on the pulling of the 10:10 video. Since he couldn’t easily explain away the 10:10 epic video gaffe being pulled, he gets personal:

“microwatts” Heh. Hey, I’ve been called far worse by Romm and Dhogaza. No worries.

For the record, I took no position on the Delingpole statement he cites, and I pointed out that because of the discovery that Delingpole made, which was important, it was a “damned if I do damned if I don’t” situation in reporting it.

click for original thread

Of course, Gareth misses the entire story about Bilderberg and global cooling being discussed because it does not fit into his narrative.

But here’s the really funny part. Until yesterday, when I got a linkback from Hot Topic because of his “unbelievably vile” snark, I had never visited the site.

Today I found out why. For the “leading site on global warming in New Zealand” it’s pretty much off the radar.

Alexa.com provides some valuable insight, here’s Hot Topic’s Worldwide Traffic Rank in New Zealand: (details on Alexa stats here)

click for details (lower number is better)

And here is WUWT’s Worldwide Traffic Rank in in New Zealand:

click for details (lower number is better)

Yes, that’s right, by a factor of 7.6, WUWT is reaching more people in New Zealand than the “leading site on global warming in New Zealand”. Perhaps if some of my New Zealand readers can spread the word around a bit, we can break the 1000 mark and make it a factor of 10. Wouldn’t that be fun?

The other number of interest between Hot Topic and WUWT is the global and US overall rankings:

Hot Topic:

Global-left, USA-right (lower number is better)

WUWT:

Global-left, USA-right (lower number is better)

Compared:

WUWT and Hot Topic worldwide reach compared (higher number is better)

So please Mr. Renowden, feel free to continue to call me names in lieu of actual content. I like the results of that, and apparently New Zealanders do too.

Not really the clearest of posts.
Hansen, for his part, says a lot of things, and goes overboard, but the video goes beyond mere words.

Speaking of Climate Progress, I see Mr. Gould is over there talking about what a tough time he was having “trying” to defuse things here.
Hello, Australia? I’ve read enough posters from there to know some of you can’t be pleased this is what one of your employees is doing on your public dime.
Yes, epic fail, and dead center own goal.
And it should be preserved and spread far and wide. Maybe by 10/10/10, there will be actual news discussion of what the little dears were thinking when they gigglingly put that slop together?

I heard about this from my kids when I got home from work (ages 13 & 15). They had angry expressions, and showed me the video, “you won’t believe this, Dad”. The 13-yr old said that the next time (it happens often) his teacher brings up climate change or AGW or carbon or anything in class, he’s going to announce that he’s not going to stick around to be blown up by the teacher. He’s already downloaded the video to his iPod, to show anyone at school that starts on about AGW.
Oh yeah, and the 15 yr believes (I think rightly) that the video *is* aimed at kids.
Me? I couldn’t watch it all. Walked away during the office workers’ scene.

Mind you they are all a bit ‘funny’ down there in the Wairarapa…
You should have a look at Whale Oil… gotcha.co.nz… now that IS funny!

I think 10:10 missed a trick here…instead of blowing those non-believing school children up they should of beaten them to death with hockey sticks.
A lot more personal.

the content of the two blogs that beat WUWT.

Don’t be worried about NZ, Anthony. When numbers are down, they poll the sheep, especially those with micro-fine wool.
To save time and to add to the law of large Numbers, they count the legs and divide by 4.
Offence being a good form of defence, maybe you should hitch along with “Terror-Watts”.

“Not really the clearest of posts.”
Undoubtedly, but not that bad for late on a Friday… 🙂
“Hansen, for his part, says a lot of things, and goes overboard, but the video goes beyond mere words.”
I am not trying to equivocate between Hansen and the video. I am leveraging a corollary from Anthony’s post to further develop one of his arguments, while providing some valuable background information to those who might not be aware of it.
I agree that the video is offensive, coercive and over the top, but I think that the vast majority of people do. There is no use in beating the proverbial dead horse, it’s better that we use our time and energy informing enough people/voters so we’ll be able to do something about it…

Wait a minute, did the “leading site on global warming in New Zealand” rip off the name of the Hot Topic retail chain where the hip trendy kids go to spend their parents’ money on the freshest pop fashions and political statements? You know, after the hot sites and magazines have confirmed how fresh and hot they are so the kids can be rebellious and out there while knowing they’ll look like the other popular kids? Hey, I saw one of those in the local mall, when I was last in there about five years ago. Those stores must be popular.
Whoa man, that is, like, so weird. Totally bogus, dude! Not cool! Man, that heavy global warming stuff must be, like, so last week. That guy has got to be tripping. That’s, like, just so gnarly, dude. Get with the program!

Do you want to protest at global warming lies in the media?
Britain’s biggest-selling newspaper has the “Polar Bear” story today:
By BEN JACKSON, Environment Editor
“POLAR bears are struggling to find food on land as a warm climate melts the ice they need to survive.
“The bears – among hundreds in Hudson Bay, Canada – normally do all their feeding on the ice during the winter months. So instead of being over the sea where they can hunt seals, they now have to adapt and forage for food on the Canadian tundra. Research shows polar bears now spend three more weeks on land a year than they did 30 years ago, while their body weight has dropped by 60lb.
“Leading polar bear expert Dr Andy Derocher estimates the Hudson Bay population could be one of the first major victims of climate change – dying out within 20 to 30 years. He said: “It’s fairly easy to look at sea ice change and work out when the bears’ fat stores run out – and they die.”
“The pictures were taken by British wildlife photographer Nick Garbutt.
“He said: “They are not getting as long on the pack ice which means they are having to look for alternatives.”

Anthony.
As a NZer, I like a number of my rational compatriots just laugh at Hot-Topic. Really has lost the plot.
Unfortunately the NZ Govt and some of the scientific community here when it comes to AGW/CC take that blogsite seriously. Nick Smith the minister for Climate Change has quoted from that site. So just goes to show how poor, ignorant ,unbalanced, and a lack of impartial and rationality certain elements in officialdom here are. They’ve already been ‘assimilated’ to Climate Change Zombie status and they’re trying to drag down the rest of us.
Appalling amount of greenie AGW/CC propaganda ‘brainwashing’ going on here in our schooling education system.
No wonder we had ETS foisted down our throats .

Having watched the video again with my wife, the major blunder appears to have been not pre-screening the video with focus groups from countries like the US, India, France or elsewhere. Then they would have seen that the “humour” didn’t travel at all well.

Actually, I rather think the ‘No Pressure’ video somewhat disproves the first assertion – when the message is so perverted! However, the more viewers come here, the more will discover the need for scepticism, so, yes, do keep turning up the wattage!
[Also, presumably a micro-watt is much better than a watt in the eyes of climate change nuts – so I guess it was a compliment!]

Well, if the serial exaggerator warmists and the out-right liars don’t end up in front of a judge in this lifetime, they will certainly be pilloried in the history books.
It is one thing to be genuinely mistaken, it is another thing to falsify data and publish lies.
