People are really ticked off about this 10:10 video, and it isn’t abating. The story is making it’s way up the news food chain. Hits are increasing on it. This afternoon, this WUWT story reached #3 on WordPress.
Not too shabby when wordpress.com says this:

But there’s a fun twist in the stats, read on.
I had to laugh though, because even though traffic is soaring through the roof today, I find that I’ve been given a new nickname by a blogger in New Zealand who thinks the vile gore-packed short film of exploding skeptical children is “funny”. He goes on to say in comments:
Wow.
Mr. Gareth Renowden, founder of what is supposed to be the leading site on global warming in New Zealand, “Hot Topic” thinks it’s all about failure to have a “sense of humor”. Perhaps this is what truffle growers turned AGW proponent might think…
…but based on traffic and the sampling of opinions posted, it surely isn’t what the rest of the world thinks.
But, back to the nickname.
Gareth has coined a new one for me. It’s funny. He included it in his update on the pulling of the 10:10 video. Since he couldn’t easily explain away the 10:10 epic video gaffe being pulled, he gets personal:
“microwatts” Heh. Hey, I’ve been called far worse by Romm and Dhogaza. No worries.
For the record, I took no position on the Delingpole statement he cites, and I pointed out that because of the discovery that Delingpole made, which was important, it was a “damned if I do damned if I don’t” situation in reporting it.
Of course, Gareth misses the entire story about Bilderberg and global cooling being discussed because it does not fit into his narrative.
But here’s the really funny part. Until yesterday, when I got a linkback from Hot Topic because of his “unbelievably vile” snark, I had never visited the site.
Today I found out why. For the “leading site on global warming in New Zealand” it’s pretty much off the radar.

Yes, that’s right, by a factor of 7.6, WUWT is reaching more people in New Zealand than the “leading site on global warming in New Zealand”. Perhaps if some of my New Zealand readers can spread the word around a bit, we can break the 1000 mark and make it a factor of 10. Wouldn’t that be fun?

I am a local Greenpeace coordinator, and a Board member of Friends of the Earth and I just can’t believe that you have produced a film that is so ****ing stupid.

Sorry to disappoint you Mr Watts, but by “µWatts” I think he’s pointing to us your readers, rather than to you.
As a New Zealander currently living in London, I maintain links with friends and family at home in NZ via email – I have just done a quick straw poll and NONE of my contacts had heard of this dimwit (or his blog) who seems to be keen to expose himself as a tasteless idiot with no clues about ethics or morality to the blogosphere; those of my friends who are interested in climate science, and that’s not all of them by any means, hold WUWT in high regard.
The MSM have begun to pick this story up; it features in the Comment section of the Telegraph this morning. The columnist admitted to being a Kukearmer [do you mean Lukewarmer perchance? ~jove, mod] at least but seemed mightily annoyed by the 1010 video.

Environmental campaigners 10:10 have withdrawn a film showing a teacher graphically exploding two of her students who refuse to reduce their carbon emmissions, after complaints.
In a statement, the group apologised to anyone offended.
The film aimed to “bring this critical issue back into the headlines whilst making people laugh,” the group said.
Lizze Gillett, Global Campaign Director for 10:10, told the BBC: “As you can see from various comments and social media sites some people thought it was funny and a good tool to get people talking about climate change but others strongly disliked the mini-movie. We decided to take it off our website to avoid upsetting people. ”

He advocated using children for his all own marxist purposes. Death to the middle-class family. I had to teach alongside this kind of viciousness “honored” in the artistic pursuit of all things anti-American.

So many people, on this and the original post have already said more, and more articulately, anything I could possibly say on my feelings over this film and the type of people who support it.
But what I wanted to point out, as the 10:10 theme seems to be ‘mot du jour’, is how, when one poster pointed out, 10/10/10 could really be something, I can only agree: Back in January, I wrote to the Daily Telegraph, with my tongue only some way into my cheek, that, as we were now in 2010, someone would take note of the fact that in Adams’s book ‘The Hitch-hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy’, the mice came to the conclusion that the answer to ‘the universe and all that’ was 42.
Well, (I’m an anal sort of guy), in binary, 42 is 101010. Further comment from me is superfluous, n’est pas?

Thank you for your email. I totally understand your reaction to this video, which was very similar to my own.
Kyocera Mita UK has supported the 10:10 campaign because we share its ambition to reduce carbon emissions. However, we don’t support the “No Pressure” video and are dismayed by the suggestion that we might have been knowing partners in its production; in fact, we had no knowledge of its content until it appeared online. We consider that 10:10 made a serious error of judgement in its choice of creative approach, which is totally at odds with the inclusive and positive attitude that has been the hallmark of its other activities. We understand that 10:10 has acknowledged its mistake, withdrawn the video and issued an apology.
I assure you that we are taking this issue extremely seriously. A formal statement will be issued in due course.

Arguing that that one or more people alleged to have behaved badly be brought to trial under generally acceptable standards is one thing. Advocating the death of people who hold views with which you disagree is far different.
However hyperbolic James Delingpole’s argument was, in my opinion he was in bounds. 10:10’s video raises questions that go far beyond the scientific method and democratic politics. Their video was many orders of magnitude less acceptable than Delingpole’s essay. Their self-serving “apology” was nothing of the sort.
Allusions to the Third Reich are always fraught, but I suspect that JD’s point was that the Nuremberg trials were an attempt by the victorious powers to restore civil standards to a world in which they had been grossly flouted, by trying the perpetrators, not in a victor’s kangaroo court, but by civilised standards of criminal law. Many defendants were surprised to find themselves accorded the presumption of innocence, and said as much.
The warmist scientists have, in my view, grossly flouted the conventions of scientific method, the closest thing it has to “laws”, to an extent which is at least rhetorically comparable to the defendants at Nuremberg. The risk, which can’t be unfamiliar to readers here, is that aided by the presumption of virtue, if not innocence, their misdemeanors will simply be finessed, and they will go on to study the Next Big Scare just as badly as they did this one. cf Paul Erlich. I don’t want this – I want these people held to account, by a process seen to be rigorous and fair. In this sense, the Nuremberg analogy is a good one, and need not imply that the crimes involved were of comparable gravity.
I know Gareth personally (we live close to the same town, and occasionally meet at the local market) – he is a decent guy who is very approachable, and a good conversationalist. I dont agree with his views on climate change and he doesnt agree with mine, but that doesnt stop us passing the time of day in a respectful and friendly manner.
@ur momisugly Patrick Davis; you must be living in a parallel universe from mine – I made no mention of politics or the city of Wellington, NZ. If you are implying I must be Left-leaning politically with your reference to Helengrad, you are wrong about that too.
I was attempting to point out the fact that most of my corespondents in NZ read WUWT and hold it in high regard.
