Gore cancels on Copenhagen lecture – leaves ticketholders in a lurch

It seems the uncertainty about Copenhagen is growing. When Al baby pulls the plug, you know it’s hosed.

From Berlingske: Al Gore cancels lecture during COP15

Al Gore cancels lecture during COP15

Looks like they will get a refund though. Might be worth more as a collectors item in ten years though.

I wonder how many people have shelled out $1200 to shake Al’s hand? Maybe not enough and he couldn’t cover the expenses for his private jet?

From the Washington Post:

“Have you ever shaken hands with an American vice president? If not, now is your chance. Meet Al Gore in Copenhagen during the UN Climate Change Conference,” notes the Danish tourism commission, which is helping Mr. Gore promote “Our Choice,” his newest book about global warming in all its alarming modalities.

“Tickets are available in different price ranges for the event. If you want it all, you can purchase a VIP ticket, where you get a chance to shake hands with Al Gore, get a copy of Our Choice and have your picture taken with him. The VIP event costs DKK 5,999 and includes drinks and a light snack.”

Wait, what? How much is that in American dollars? The currency conversion says it all, too: 5,999 Danish kroners is equivalent to $1,209.

“If you do not want to spend that much money, but still want to hear Al Gore speak about his latest book about climate challenges, you can purchase general tickets, ranging in price from DKK 199-1,499 depending on where in the room you want to sit,” the practical Danes advise. “There will be large screens, so that everyone will get a good view.”

Yah, such a deal.

MikeH (11:57:22) : Is it possible that Gore will actually try to claim innocence and say he was duped by these scientists along with the rest of the public ? Could he get away with it?
Dont be ridiculous. Gore is the guy who invented AGW.
He has been caught out in this swindle by the internet, which he also invented.
He has cancelled his talk because the time for talking is over.
Besides why should he go to a place where the Earth has caught a chill and he might get pneumonia. Better to bask in places where the Earth has a fever.

This situation is looking more and more like that scene from the movie Ratatouille, where the little old French lady shoots so many holes in her farmhouse ceiling with her shotgun that it falls, exposing a multitude of rats, who then take off running.
That movie has a nice sound track.
Hey! Isn’t it about time for another musical offering to commemorate this unprecedented point in history?

I’ve tried twice to post a link to two different articles on WUWT to the BBC Newsnight website comment area – both have been ‘moderated’.
I’ve just left this comment – let’s see if that gets deleted too
“Why are you referring references to a specific website with 3m hits in the last two weeks to moderation?” There are plenty of links to other sites so it’s not an exteral linking issue.
I’m appalled. They did let through a comment where I said ‘ At 6:44pm on 03 Dec 2009, you wrote:
“Forgot to point out that the MWP referred to is the Medieaval Warming Period where vineyards flourished nr Hadrian’s Wall to grazing cattle in Greenland.
Prf Jones et al would have you believe that this is ‘an anomaly’ despite it lasting 400yrs and documented widely by historians.
It doesn’t take many braincells to notice that it is not that warm now since Greenland is mostly covered in ice. To make ‘global warming’ a ‘fact’ they simply left it out. I don’t think that there were many SUVs or coal fired power stations then either, do you?
Seriously, look at the emails and code comments – its there in b/w
To coin a phrase – do you believe your lying eyes?”

Gore must be a big fan of Photoshop. That image of the Earth behind him has an artificial lens flare added to the Earth’s horizon. In order for the Earth to be illuminated as shown, the Sun would have to be well to the right of the photo, and not barely coming up on the horizon.
There is nothing wrong with photoshopping images, as they are pleasing to look at. But with a reputation for photoshopping hurricanes onto an otherwise calm Earth for his book cover, he should really back down from this practice. This is especially true as Climate-Gate continues to emerge and he gets drawn into the fray.

Algore needs new power point pages. Some with hotter flames. More drama. “The science is in”.
Algore is scared to death that some reporters will approach him with questions. His phobia of being cornered is terrifying.

So why is it that the vast majority of google hits on “Climategate” are coming from Stockholm? Is that where the UN / IPCC damage control team is headquartered? Or is it the Nobel Butt-Covering team?

>> why did Gore cancel his talk?
According to the Berlingske link at the top of this page, the reason is because of “unexpected changes in Al Gore’s program”.
Lisbeth Knudsen, head of Berlingske Media, who invited to the event adds:
“We do not yet know the detailed reasons for the cancellation”
Note: I live in Copenhagen. I can report that, to my knowledge, there is not a single newspaper or TV-station covering this in any serious way.

You would have missed a bit. Try
“climategate”, “climate gate”, “global warming”
Some people are searching for “climte gate”, two words.

On the theme of rats jumping ship, if you care to venture into Huffington Post’s Green page, it’s sort of interesting to see several op-eds on the left calling for scrapping cap and trade.
They still claim climate change is an imminent disaster of course, but cap and trade is the wrong approach. Maybe I’m too optimistic, but I hope this is one more sign that that atrocious bill is losing support.

Here in dear old blighty(UK) our dear leader Gordon Brown has been getting quite a reputation as a latter day Jonah spreading bad luck and chaos wherever he goes and whatever he touches, he is so desperate for some positive press that he took it upon himself to inflate the importance of the Copenhagen summit calling leaders around the world urging them to “put their reputations on the line to ensure the success of the summit” and it looks like he has cursed the whole circus.
As soon as our unelected mad pretender jumps on a bandwaggon you can be pretty certain the whole thing will collapse into rubble, still after the charade goes tits up he will of course claim that he was opposed to the whole idea and was indeed a sceptic all along as I suspect will Al Gore?
In the US I believe Mr Obama has staked his reputation on the great global warming swindle, ooops he should have known to keep his distance from the Jonah across the pond in little ole England land town.
Still Al Gore can always disappear to spend more time with his money untill a new money making scam appears, he could even write a book or two.

“You guys really hurt your credibility when you go on about Gore — almost as bad as Climate Progress.
If you want your side of the science to be taken seriously, you should be serious.”
I recognize what you are saying, but this is being done in the context of there being a lack of coverage in the media of climategate. I agree I wouldn’t spend too much time on Gore, Obama, etc., but it is relevant in talking about the wider topic of media coverage (or lack thereof).

This for Anthony, for whom I have no direct email address. OK, ‘denier’ can be banned, with all those holocaust overtones. But being ‘in denial’ is much more innocent, and part of everyday English. Gee, I’m in denial about drinking a bottle of wine a day, despite my doc saying my legs are ‘compromised’. After a decade of being accused of being in denial about AGW (or being called a ‘contrarian’) it seems to me that it’s the the AGW crowd that have been in denial ever since they spotted that temperatures were just not rising along with CO2 concentration. Ever more concrned about that they resorted to fraud. C’est la vie.
