Gore cancels on Copenhagen lecture – leaves ticketholders in a lurch

It seems the uncertainty about Copenhagen is growing. When Al baby pulls the plug, you know it’s hosed.

From Berlingske: Al Gore cancels lecture during COP15

Al Gore cancels lecture during COP15

Looks like they will get a refund though. Might be worth more as a collectors item in ten years though.

I wonder how many people have shelled out $1200 to shake Al’s hand? Maybe not enough and he couldn’t cover the expenses for his private jet?

From the Washington Post:

“Have you ever shaken hands with an American vice president? If not, now is your chance. Meet Al Gore in Copenhagen during the UN Climate Change Conference,” notes the Danish tourism commission, which is helping Mr. Gore promote “Our Choice,” his newest book about global warming in all its alarming modalities.

“Tickets are available in different price ranges for the event. If you want it all, you can purchase a VIP ticket, where you get a chance to shake hands with Al Gore, get a copy of Our Choice and have your picture taken with him. The VIP event costs DKK 5,999 and includes drinks and a light snack.”

Wait, what? How much is that in American dollars? The currency conversion says it all, too: 5,999 Danish kroners is equivalent to $1,209.

“If you do not want to spend that much money, but still want to hear Al Gore speak about his latest book about climate challenges, you can purchase general tickets, ranging in price from DKK 199-1,499 depending on where in the room you want to sit,” the practical Danes advise. “There will be large screens, so that everyone will get a good view.”

Yah, such a deal.

Maybe Al decided it was high time he set an example to his disciples and reduce his carbon footprint…?
Nah, he’s running scared. 😀

““Have you ever shaken hands with an American vice president? ”
No, I shook hands with [President] LBJ (actually, he smahed mine, dude was huge).
The thought of shaking hands with Gore at this point reminds me of that commercial that opened with “Ever shake hands with a Lobster?”

Since there are always threats against folks in his position, I would not put it past them to blame this on advice from the Secret Service or Danish Authorities. His safety not being guaranteed, etc..

there are a lot of people who have Al Gore’s phone number. Some of them are smart enough to see a con exploding in their face when they see one. And it would not surprise me in the slightest if at least some of them have called to say that they just don’t believe him anymore.
Also, Copenhagen is sure to be a colossal bust and Gore wants to avoid the association.
I wonder what his fortune is worth now?

Hey MSM, where are ya?

I have a friend whose wife works at NCAR in Boulder, on her way to work the otherday there was a guy walking his dog and everytime a car came up the drive to NCAR he opened his coat to reveal a large sign that said “NCAR is a joke!” You know when they’re heckling in Boulder the wheels are falling off the bus. Couldn’t happen to a nicer bunch.

Maybe he does not like the look of the google trends.

UK Channel 4 has been running a nightly report from Brazil, and had quite a bit to say about doubts about the legitimacy of carbon trading and questions the whole point of Copenhagen in view of the ongoing revelations. I hope it turns out to be the disaster it deserves to be.

I wonder if GE’s spinning-off of NBC Universal to Comcast (and only retaining a 20% stake) is their initial volley at throwing-in the towel on their “Green” business model, which was heavily based on getting Cap-and-Trade passed as well as all the future carbon trading schemes which may now be (hopefully) derailed forever by Climategate. GE Chief Executive Jeffrey Immelt used NBC, MSNBC, and The Weather Channel to get their global warming message out – and it is inexplicable that they would divest this part of the business unless they see the writing on the wall for CO2-based business models.

I guess now that people are looking more closely, Al Gore is afraid his appearance will draw attention to how Enron was a huge supporter of cap-and-trade with Ken Lay himself pushing it. Krugman unsurprising was on the Enron payroll, so that could help explain his recent tirade and projection about who is on whose payroll. Greenpeace and others took large sums of money from Enron. Then there’s also the matter of Shell and BP and a number of other companies who stand to gain with cap-and-trade. I’ve been disappointed in Discover Magazine and New Scientist, but – surprise surprise – whenever I see those magazines trying to explain it away, there’s an ad for Shell paying for the article. There really needs to be a hardcore push showing who stands to profit (and what the relationships are) from Copenhagen.
I’m not saying pro-AGW or anti-AGW is purer than the other, just by cancelling out all these “You’re in X’s pocket” can then put more of a focus on the science instead of letting PR spin attempt to distract away.

There is not enough political capital in the world to make this go away. Gore realizes this by now. The BBC is still pretending it can hand-wave the entire episode – its featured article on the entire scandal is nothing more than an irrelevant rant about science. The liberal media is throwing itself under the bus trying (and failing) to obfuscate the issue.
I guess we do still live in a free world!

Take a look at the picture of Al Gore in front of the earth (top of this post).
I mean, look at those squinting eyes and that “smile” or whatever we may call it. Who was so careless to evoke satan? Please stop it so we can make him go back to hell where he came from 😉
He is truly awful oh boy…

Because half-a-dozen grasshoppers under a fern make the field ring with their importunate chink, whilst thousands of great cattle, reposed beneath the shadow of the British oak, chew the cud and are silent, pray do not imagine that those who make the noise are the only inhabitants of the field; that of course they are many in number; or that, after all, they are other than the little shriveled, meager, hopping, though loud and troublesome insects of the hour.

As for the tickets for Al Gore, perhaps some day in the future they will be on prominent display in an “Integrity of Science” museum.

Don’t celebrate too soon. Long way to go. I’ve posted part of this elsewhere but maybe someone will comment.
The dreadful Nature editorial underlines the nature of the crisis. Hope I’m wrong but but I would have thought it obvious that those of us sceptical of AGW will, as we approach the date for Copenhagen and beyond, continue to be sidelined into obscurity. Aside from a few minor reactions to ClimateGate (maybe the odd sacking) the bandwagon will roll on with its massive economic effects being felt across the planet and certainly by everyone in the West.
Isn’t it time for those sceptical of the AGW thesis to consider a focussed strategy with as centrepiece, one well publicised single web location detailing at various technical levels every argument ever put forward for the AGW position together with an authoritative and exhaustive rebuttal or at least a presentation of evidence demonstrating the science is certainly NOT settled?

And the “lamestream” media wonders why circulation/revenue is down? By the possible time they might begin to take Climategate seriously it will have been SETTLED. The LSM wants AGW to be real as they can’t report anything more than one (CO2) variable at a time.
Will Oblahmba really attend Copenhagen? Bets?
