We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to suspend the Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia from preparation of any Government Climate Statistics until the various allegations have been fully investigated by an independent body.

The details of the petition:
The Climate Research Unit at the University of East Anglia is a “leading centre” for the investigation of “manmade global warming” and government policy relies on the integrity of these statistics. Several claims have been made: that data was “cherry picked” to make the 20th century temperature rise look exceptional in historical terms; emails suggest the unit has colluded in “tricks” to “hide the decline” in a high profile scientific journal, and this unit has colluded in active, secret and highly political campaigning through the website “realclimate”.
The preparation of climate statistics require many judgements: stations move & sites become surrounded by urban sprawl (urban heating) & a judgement must be made of the size of the offset to apply to the global temperature record. The University accepts most emails are genuine so it appears the Unit has been acting in a highly partisan way incompatible with that of a neutral body preparing and interpreting government data. We call on the PM to suspend all further use of the climate research unit until all pertinent allegations have been investigated and any action (if any) has been taken.

In any case, once it gets beyond 500(?) names it will only show the most recent 500.
I hate saying it, but these petitions are generally pretty pointless. The only one they have paid any attention to was a couple of years ago to stop road-pricing. That attracted well over a million names. Even in spite of the result the DoT is still preparing to do just that.
A very good response so far. One chap has signed himself as a “global defrosting believer”. Brilliant!

I have the same opinion about these people as I do about the politicians with their heads in the troughs, as they are no different. They should go to jail.

On one hand, over at RealClimate.org, Gavin Schmidt, a modeler for the NASA Goddard Institute for Space Studies, has been downplaying the leak. The BBC and MSM must also be inundated with mail. Stick to the science ie CO2 is not the driver of climate. Be sympathetic to researchers who believe their models but not empirical data. The alarmists need an exit strategy. It will not help the politicians if all they observe is a slanging match. Remember, nearly all UK politicos have no science or maths background. Demand an open debate about AGW theory and make sure Prof Richard Lindzen is included.
Jeremy Paxman, Andrew Neal or Jeff Randall may be appropriate journalists.

I love when people make videos and post youtube stories, to make up for the the biased MSM and their lack of news coverage. The MSM is no longer the authority on news, the Internet now is. I wonder how the MSM feels about that?
AQ42 – an interesting comment. In reality CRU is probably a lot less. Maybe just 4 permanent staff, a few others on soft money, others honorary and visiting positions. The interesting thing is the close knit network that originated in CRU and are on many of the emails: Wigley (former Director), Santer (former student), Jones, Briffa, Osborne (present CRU), Davies (UEA pro-vice chancellor – former director) plus possibly others.
Although I can understand why a petition may prove a useful conduit for venting off, I
very much doubt that it will produce any noticeable benefit.
Witness the effect of the 31k scientists expressing doubts about the credibility of dangerous man-made climatic influences.
It was hacked and gleefully defaced by willing warmists and held up to ridicule.
The current UK establishment has no interest in listening to its public, the power to petition is but a glossy marketing mirage, an illusion to deflect delusion.
The events of the last few days give us all an opportunity to re-assess our viewpoints. For some, those who’ve long followed the climate story, it’ll be pretty much business as usual but for many others anger and bewilderment are only to be expected.
Not that long ago, I totally believed that man-made global warming was a catastrophe in the making. I began to question my beliefs when I started to notice just how nasty, dismissive and authoritarian sites like Tamino and RealClimate were when compared to ‘Sceptical’ sites. Maybe it’s a poor way to judge the correctness of Science by comparing the manners of the participants but, as a layman, that’s why I began to dig .
To cut an otherwise long story short, I learned whom I could trust and, judging by recent happenings, I feel very comfortable with that choice.
As SMc, of He-Whose-Name-Cannot-Be-Mentioned (except in deleted emails [snark off- :)], would say; Stop piling on!
I sincerely hope that this petition does catch the imagination and prove that, not for the first time, I’m wrong!
OT , but somewhat pertinent . Has anyone heard from Richard Courtney ? He posted here occasionally in the past – and very thoughtful posts they were . I’d love to get his take on all of this . ( It’s prertinent because he’s British . )
If our government doesn’t prosecute these people who are guilty of fraud and deceiving the entire world, then I am going to call for a Public Grand Jury to be formed which the people themselves can initiate in order to prosecute these criminals. We do not need our government to take the lead on this, we can do it ourselves. We are talking about 79 billion dollars of our tax payer money spent so far on their junk science and the biggest scientific fraud ever played on us.
The last time a public grand jury was formed was in Arkansas to indict President Bill Clinton for his Monica Lewinsky sex scandal. Michael Man’s trial can be held in Philadelphia, the Cradle of Liberty, where he works. Screw our government, we will do this ourselves. It’s all legal under common law.
First, a grand jury, as is the case of any other types of jury, is a jury assembled of people from the general public. This is what makes a jury public. Indict means for a grand jury to decide that there is enough evidence to bring an accused before the court to answer the charges.

It’s not pleasant, if you think you’ve been duped, but life must go on and an Exit Strategy is key to moving on. Slanging off has been the norm in the debate, this is not the way forward when determining how we move on.
Sadly it’s all so easy to allow anger to stifle reason when that dear old auntie, the BBC, still refuses to take her medication and ramps up the hysteria.

Agreed. I’ll never forget his describing how Maggie Thatcher started so much of this monster that has grown imperceptibly. To fight the miners. (1) She cut all research funding – therefore researchers are competing for funds (2) but she made funds available in all disciplines to research supporting AGW – therefore the basis for “divide and rule” is set up since disciplines cannot disprove each other (3) she set up the Hadley Centre.
