Greenpeace defaces Mount Rushmore

More civil disobedience and vandalism along the thinking of Dr. James Hansen of NASA GISS, who advocates such things.

Greenpeace took a unique approach today and sent several climbers up Mt. Rushmore in the middle of the night to deploy a giant 75lb sixty-five feet high by thirty-five feet wide banner calling for Climate Action. Featuring an unfinished portrait of the President, it read “America honors leaders not politicians: Stop Global Warming.” The demonstration came as President Obama meets other G8 leaders in l’Aquila, Italy today to discuss the global warming crisis in the lead-up to UN climate treaty negotiations in Copenhagen this December.

The banner managed to stay up on Mt. Rushmore for about an hour before being cut at around 1:17 PM est. Greenpeace was quick to point out that they respect American monuments and the banner was not installed in any way detrimental to the carvings on Mt. Rushmore. For more information, jump to the official Greenpeace posting on the event here.

[UPDATENewsweek‘s The Gaggle blog says it has learned: “That a team of 12 experienced climbers prepped conspicuously for months planning for different scenarios to ensure the action could be completed safely. The group also promised there would be no damage to the actual monument, which is solid granite. And all involved planned to spend several weeks behind bars.”]

Nice ….. just shows you why GreenFarce is not well respected or taken seriously

Comedy Gold.
When it comes to defacing federal landmarks, it’s hard to tell what’s terrorism and what’s civil disobedience. What’s the next step in calling attention to their pet cause of the moment? In 20 years time, will they reverse their standpoint, like they reportedly have on the use of nuclear power?

“The demonstration came as President Obama meets other G8 leaders in l’Aquila, Italy today to discuss the global warming crisis in the lead-up to UN climate treaty negotiations in Copenhagen this December.”
Perhaps Berlusconi will be able to tell Obama about the Roman Warm optimum that helped the western Roman empire to thrive and the climate cooling that helped to finish them off, and the renewed warmth that gave the eastern Roman (Byzantine) empire such a good start.
When they go to Copenhagen I’m sure they’ll take the opportunity to go to the Danish Protectorate of Greenland where they can continue the lesson by showing the results of the warmth that the Vikings enjoyed in the MWP and perhaps to keep the Roman/Danish theme going they can tie that in with the trading visits of the Vikings to Constatinople during the Byzantime empire that were curtailed when the sea lanes around Greenland iced up again.
Once Obama knows about all that it will all be over by Christmas and we can return to sanity.

Anyone else suspect that their attorneys are already prepping Mr. Hansen for his next appearance as a character witness?

Greenpeace seems to be a group of people “with a cause.” It matter not that the present cause is a total SCAM, but only a cause. The Global Average Temperatures has actually decreased by 3/4 of one degree centigrade over the past 10 years. At that rate some scientists are concerned that another Ice Age may occurr. Yeah, we’ve heard that one before during the early 70’s. No one can predict what the weather will be next month, but too many “experts” know what the planet will be like in 10 years!

Defacing a national monument, even temporarily, is not “moxie”. It’s hooliganism. It is entirely inappropriate and indefensible.

All that ingenuity and planning, I just wish these lads would expend their energies on something more tangible, Hell yes! save the Planet, but save the whale, the Orangutan, save the forests but unproven intangibles? Save your breath lads.
AND
Stop being so political, I could identify with you once but not now, your have a hidden agenda, and it is not what you originally set out to accomplish, similarly so the WWF. Politics is money!

Greenpeace are run by knuckleheads who don’t have a clue about climate science.

I hope Teddy Roosevelt gave them a rough ride.
Washington, Jefferson, and Lincoln might admire their daring, but all would find them under-educated, closed-minded, and lacking in wisdom.

So this group spent months wasting carbon to do this. If the cap was in effect, could these conspirators be fined three times the price of months of their carbon intake and exhaust?

What a waste of energy, time and resources to plan such an “event” that lasted all of a couple of hours. Here I am, like millions of Americans, thankfully working but also worrying about our political and economic futures and these nuts spend “months” planning this meaningless and dishonest event? And someone is feeding them? It’s a great scam if you can get away with it. It reminds me of my children when they were young and contrarian. This act might be considered juvenile and pathetic if their intended outcome didn’t have such serious ramifications for all of us.

If you’re going to link to Greenpeace, I suggest “nofollow’ing” the link, so they get no search engine ranking “credit”.

There’s really nothing “green” about them. They should be referred to as “Redpeace”.

Read about Patrick Moore, a founder of Greenpeace, to know what Greenpeace has become…
He calls it “pop-environmentalism” that uses misinformation, fear and sensationalism to deal with people on the emotional level rather than intellectual level. Greenpeace has abandoned science and logic in favor of emotion and sensationalism.
Also, he said the environmental movement has evolved into the strongest force there is for preventing development in the developing countries. I think it’s legitimate for me to call them anti-human.

Once Obama knows about all that it will all be over by Christmas and we can return to sanity.
This might be possible if there was the slightest bit of evidence that Obama and the people that shepherded him to power have the least bit of interest in the actual facts of this phony crisis. If you delve beneath the surface of the Obama campaign, the financial crisis, and AGW crisis, like a string of B-movies from Republic Studios in the Forties, the same cast of actors appears over and over. Their confidence in the grip on power they now hold is so great that they no longer see any danger in revealing publicly that their intent all along was to use these manufactured “crises” to inflict on the world their agenda, which they long ago realized had no possibility of being accepted, absent a population dithering about in third stage panic. Thus we have seen Mr. Emmanuel and others spouting off about how they “can’t let this crisis go to waste”
