Overnight, WUWT hit a new milestone with 10 million page views.
As of this writing, according to the WordPress internal counter shown in the ride sidebar, I’m at 10,016,144 page views.
This is since September of 2007. I’m on track this month to hit 1.4 million page views, which will be another new record if it happens.
Using an external free service, Sitemeter, it shows 9,104,257 but I also started it a bit later. Total unique visits according to sitemeter have been 6,141,642.
Not too shabby. A million here, a million there, and pretty soon it adds up to real traffic. Recently it was pointed out to me that my traffic now exceeds the host newspaper which gave rise to my blog, the Chico Enterprise Record, on which I started my first blog in November 2006 on their www.norcalblogs.com website.
I owe a debt of thanks to the ChicoER, my guest contributors, volunteer moderators, and of course you, the readers. – Anthony
Oh wait a minute… I’ve recently became very suspicious.
Has this data been adjusted to get such results?
The best climate site on the net, and deservedly popular.
My thanks to Anthony, and the mods, and my fellow contributors.
Congrats. And we have had some quality scientific posts in the past couple of days – get over to the DONATE button and just click.
Also, a visit to Leif’s tip jar may be in order.
Go on. Do it.
When’s the final report from surface stations coming out, Anthony?
Ten million hits and six million unique visitors. Wow! That leaves four million spaces for all of us returnees. The moderation of comments must take great time and effort. Thanks to you and your assistants; I have not seen any site moderated so well, so carefully, and so generously.
The best part of WUWT is the education every single day re the many variables of climate and climate change, and some threads go on for days. We can’t get enough because so many experts — presenters and commenters — are providing us with the most recent research and debate. Nowhere else is this possible. I am deeply grateful, and I love the humor. My appreciation is also shown through my monthly “subscription”. I hope the majority of readers want to fling funds, too.
Anthony, I can’t figure out why you don’t do ads. You should be able to make some money without turning the site into a Lubos Motlesque script wonderland.
Funny how Domingo, who believes that we are all, to paraphrase Cotton Mather, “Sinners in the hands of an angry Gaia”, is lecturing us on religion.
Google Chrome spell checks your comments for you. BTW.
Anthony, given the huge traffic on the site, is it possible to sell some advertising space to offset your costs?
The tremendous number of hour you must have to put in to maintain the site would still mean you would not be earning a huge hourly rate even if you could sell some space.
Alan
Congratulations Anthony, moderators and WUWT community!
Couldn’t have said it better than Leon:
“Leon Brozyna (13:38:06) :
A little honesty and integrity in article presentations, a bit of civility in moderating comments and people start to notice. Keep up the fine work.”
Congratulations Anthony and Moderators. As I’ve said before, best “edutainment” around. I am a voracious reader and WUWT is one of the things I read voraciously ! If any readers are familiar with the last 30 years of my fathers’ life, you will understand why these numbers and blog are important to us. I commend you for the bravery it has taken to get to this point, Anthony et al.
Mr. Watts,
what is the estimated cost for you to move to a fixed server ?
Please let us know.
Tom, you must have taken both engineering and hard science classes. You’re probably thinking in engineering notation with your comment.
10E7 would be 100 million because 10E7 is 10 x 10^7
I get the notations mixed up all the time.
Perhaps that’s where you went wrong? 🙂
Thank you Anthony & Company for giving me a NEW THING TO WHICH I CAN BE ADDICTED! Like I need any help!!!
Bastards!! 🙂
Haha…in all seriousness…the trade-off is the free education…without have to pay for the course.
…AND another trade-off is being able to audit a class by Dr. Svalgaard, without being subject to a D Minus grade from the same. 🙂
My main suggestion is that you might want to consider a WORD LIMIT as some of the posts on here get most tiring and pedantic in a uncontrolled-burning smoke-screen (like Singapore has never seen) of unnecessary verbosity.
Such limitation or cap (but not trade LOL) would NOT be a suppression of free speech.
On the contrary, such a measure would FORCE people to think twice about what they say first…so they can weed themselves of all of their clutter (self-weeding for lack of a better term LOL)…so that is end result is one word: CONCISE.
My grandfather taught me (as I am sure many other grandfathers have): “If you can not say it in a few words, you can’t say it in 1000!”
Regardless….MANY THANKS for your efforts here and congratulations!

Corrections: “without HAVING to pay for the course” and
“so that THE end result is one word: CONCISE.”
Dammit….I type too fast
There I just increased the count by 1^8.
It would be preferred if the site could continue by reader donations and not become dependent on advertising. As soon as you start accepting advertising you either have to choose what ads to accept or reject. Fossil energy ads would cause others to label you as a shill. Some hosts may randomly assign ads so that you have no control over them and again get unfairly labeled.
Did you make your donation yet this month?
10 million page views and CO2 taxes may be on the way anyhow. Thanks for trying, we hope the madness stops soon.
At what point does popularity drive one into “the mainstream” by definition? Can a counter-revolutionary cad maintain his rebel identity when the masses are hauling him about on their shoulders and mothers want him to kiss their babies? At what point does he begin to court the idolatry? Dangerous territory for a contrarian!

Check this story out. Seems pretty ‘level-headed’ to me. Nothing alarmist here. Just a little end of the world as we know it scenario. These things keep getting more and more over the top.
Any comments?
I just saw this at Drudge down in the middle column :
“Global hurricane activity reaches new lows…”
It links to the Florida State University page that was headlined here on WUWT two days ago.
I look forward to the day when a link from Drudge goes to WUWT.
This is traffic at Drudge, copy and pasted from low on right column there :

Ohioholic,
You made me read it, so now I’m going to foist it onto everyone else:
If people can’t sweat, the inevitable result is… click
[…oh, ‘scuse me. That was the inevitable result of my reading that article.]
Expect to see Massachusetts Bay freeze over in a corollary of the Chu effect.
Congrats on 10^7!!! I’m glad to say I’m a number of those, as are many people I’ve sent in this direction.
I’d love to comment on
Domingo Tavella (13:24:55) :
Although no doubt intended as sarcasm, you’ve outsmarted yourself by being accurate!
But Christianity is NOT the most popular religion. This kind of factual error completely decimates your attempt at humor. Well, that and the fact that your sense of humor is somewhat… monotonic.
Actually, the reason GW Bush was elected was that his competitors were Al Gore and John Kerry. Given a choice between either of those gentlemen and, well ANYONE else, the obvious winner will always be “anyone else”.
I like this one. The correlation between scientific “concensus” and reality…. er, yeah… wait, what you said was slightly different.
(I’ll skip the rest, because it’s wandering into territory that is off-limits here. Besides, I’m not sure your type could handle the breakdown of what happened and why the world is now saddled with a big zero… I Guarantee buyer’s remorse, and soon.)
It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity.
Is that billion with a B?
Congrats!
OT : IS NSIDC ever going to fix the problems or are they going to continue to produce obviously in error extent data for the rest of the season? I would prefer an “out of order” sign to what they are producing now.
Since you have an ear there thought you might inquire.
Also, I would love to see if they will make the models and supporting calculations/assumptions public or not. I will hold my breath. Call a coroner, tell him global warming killed me. ;P
Thanks for all your hard work and great attitude, Anthony and crew!
